Darkness cloaked the world with only a full moon to stop it from devouring the world. In an old hut beside the river the darkness served as an ally to those within. A small candle burned in the corner throwing a pail and eerie light over two figures that knelt opposite each other.
“So are we in agreement?” A low sultry voice questioned.
“Completely.” A seasoned voice answered. “Tomorrow at noon.” With a stiff handshake a deal was struck and reluctant impish smiles appeared on their lips. The candle extinguished with a breath and the two figures parted, enveloped by the dark.

Sano laid a hand over his churning and growling stomach. He groaned, the fish spine in his mouth jutting out annoyingly.
“Aw man my stomach. What was I thinking going to Kaoru’s for lunch. I would have been better off hungry.” He complained. The sun and cool breeze helped to stave off sickness. The backstreets were cool and peaceful as he walked alone. Birds tittered on the next street. Sano heard the quiet patting of rushed footsteps behind him, before he had a chance to look something dark slipped over his head.
“Hay what’s the big idea!” Sano yelled. He threw punches and kicks that only hit air until a sharp pain hit the back of his neck and sent him hurtling into unconsciousness. The unidentified figure picked hum up and hauled him away.

Kaoru knelt at the table across the table from Kenshin and Yahiko. After placing a plate of boiled fish and potatoes on the table.
“Hold on its dinner time where is Sanosuke?” Kaoru turned her head as if expecting to find him behind her. Yahiko tossed a sly glance at Kenshin
“He ran because he knew Kaoru was cooking.” He said tly.tly. Kenshin choked down a laugh.
“WHAT WAS THAT YAHIKO?” Kaoru yelled
“It was…” He didn’t have a chance to finish because Sanosuke’s empty bowl, thrown by Kaoru, smacked him in the forehead with a dull thud. He held his head and looked sourly at her. “Watch where you’re throwing that ugly!’ He snarled
“Who are you calling ugly you little half pint!” she shot back
“Wait wait. Stop fighting. Let us just finish our meal and then we will look for Sano that we will.” Kenshin said with his hands in a pleading position. They sat quietly the rest of the meal trying to avoid one another’s stares. When they finished they set out on the back streets.
“Well were should we look Kenshine?” Kaoru asked. Kenshine stopped in his tracks as did they. “Kenshin?”
“Get down!” Kenshin spun quickly around and pushed them to the dusty street. He turned back just in time to here a dull thunk. The feathery tail of an arrow stuck past his face and extremely close to his head. The shaft was even with his eye, He was sure if he had moved a hair differently he would have been dead. He steeped away from the arrow and scanned the rooftops for the attacker but found no one.
“Who was that?” Yahiko questioned as he stood up and brushed himself off.
“Look, there’s a message.” Kaoru said. Kenshin unwrapped a piece of paper that was tied to the shaft. The message read:
Batosi,
I have taken your oaf of a friend.
If you don’t want the next time you gaze
On his face to be when it is on a
Spike you will fallow the map I have include.
You will come alone. You will tell no one where
You are going and you will come unarmed.
When you have finished reading this message you
Will tear it into pieces and burn them to
Cinders. Be here by midnight. If you are not
He will die.

-Aoishi Shinomori
Leader of the oniwaban group.

At the bottom a small map was drawn.
“So, what is it Kenshin?” Kaoru said peering over his shoulder. Kenshin quickly pulled it away.
“It’s nothing that is.” He quickly thought up a clever lie. “It is only an invitation to join the military.” He said.
“They are getting to extreme to try and convince you. Besides how many timee yoe you going to have to say no to these people?” Kaoru seemed to buy it. They shrugged it off and continued their futile search leaving the arrow where it was.

A couple hours later the gang finally decided to stop looking, thanks to some gentle persuasion from Kenshin that Sano was probably out gambling, and went home to the dojo. After a few quick goodnights they each headed off to their own rooms.
Kenshin stepped into his room and closed his door behind him. His futon was folded over near the wall with the quilt lying on top of it, upon which his wooden neck rest sat. He did not unfold or lay it our, instead he lit a candle and sat cross-legged in the center of the room. He propped his sword against his shoulder.
“There may be a way to sneak my sword No ANo Aoshi is to smart for that.” He thought to himself. He tore the note apart and held each piece above the candle and watched them burn away. He laid the sheathed blade on the folded futon and made his way into the night.

Sano groaned coming out of unconsciousness. “Where am I?” He thought. He opened his eyes to a blurry world but blinked it away. There, in the pail moons light that spilled in through the window, stood hajime Saitou. He wore only his policeman pants, his hands at his hips, as he stared out the window taking another drag off his cigarette.
“Saitou!” Sano yelled. “What in the hell is this about?” Hncednced noticing the throbbing pain in his wrists where his hands were tied together. He was sitting against the wall his hand stiff behind him. Saitou snuffed out his cigarette and flicked the but.
“It’s just as it looks. I have captured you, a surprisingly easy task.” Saitou commented snidely. Sano tried but found that he could not move his hands or fingers.
“What ever your planning it won’t work. Kenshin will be here soon enough and when I’m free I’m going to pound you into a pulp!” despite his effort his voice trembled slightly he hoped it sounded like an angry tremor. Saitou chuckled and lead down in front of his face.
“That’s not going to happen.” Saitou said confirming Sano’s fears. “The Batosi will have his hands full soon enough.” He taunted. He removed Sano’s head band and wrapped it around his own head. “As will you.” An impish smile pulled at his lips and a mischievous glint lit in his eyes.

Kenshin came upon a mansion surrounded by a high stone wall and metal bared gate. Inside the mansion a few lights burned casting lights upon the drawn curtains. Kenshin pulled on the gate but it held firm. He took a step back and leapt on and over the wall. He cautiously entered the house and into the main hall. At the other end of the large hall a stair case lead up to a railed ledge that was the 2nd floor. The ledge surrounded the room leading into other rooms that lined its path. A chandelier hung from the ceiling pouring light into the room.
“Ah, Batosi.” Aoishi’s voice echoed up from his comfortable place on Kenshin’s upper right. He began to stride toward the stair case. “And you have come unarmed good,” He brushed aside the long white over coat to show the empty sash of his dark violet night robe. “As have I.”
“Were is Sanosuke!” Kenshin snapped. He reflexively went for his sword grasping nothing but air he remembered he had been forced to leave it behind. Aoshi stopped and stared at Kenshin as he returned his arms to his side.
“He is safely placed in loving hands. No harm will come to him.” Aoshi mentioned as if the words were not even worth mention. “He is not here.” He said putting an end to the side note. Kenshin turned and headed back to the main door. Aoshi snapped his fingers and immediately all the doors and windows slammed shut. The sounds of busy hands warned him that all exits to the home were being locked and nailed shut.
“Probrably members of the Oniwaban.” Kenshin thought. He turned to face Aoshi who was now at the top of the stairs. “What is the meaning of this Aoshi?” Kenshin called up.” Aoshi started down the stairs with an impish smile on his lips.
“I will tell you, but first a little privacy.” Aoshi snapped his fingers again. Soft sounds of padded feet retreating grew fainter until it disappeared entirely. He came exceedingly close to kenshin, so close they were almost touching and kenshin could feel the warm moist breath. “You wish to know why I summoned you Batosi,” Aoshi’s eyes softened as he leaned his face closer to kenshin’s soft and confused one.
Within and instant, in which time seemed to stand still, Aoshi gently laid his lips upon kenshin’s. He kept his eyes open and stared into the beautiful orbs of Kenshn’s eyes. He looked surprised but made no attempt to pull away.
Kenshin felt his arms go weak as he looked into Aoshi’s piercing eyes. Kenshin slowly took a step backward and stared at aoshi who had yet to move.
“It is said that the feeling that takes ones body when the Batosi’s sword is thrust deep within you is the greatest thing this world has to offer. I want to feel that.” Aoshi said still not moving. “Would you allow me such an honor?” His voice a husky whisper that plead his need.
Kenshin said nothing somehow not able to say anything. He finally compensated by stepping forward and brushing his lips against Aoshi’s. Aoshi ghosted his fingers over Kenshin’s cross shaped scar. Aoshi led the way up the stairs and through a sliding paper and wood door. Inside the room was large and cozy against the left wall a low set table with a cushion on each side. On the table sat a decanter of sake and two small cups as well as a candle that cast a flickering light on the room. In the center of it all sat a large and wide futon with an overstuffed quilt and two fluffy pillows.
They sat together at the table and sipped the sweet drink staring at one another. Fantasies of what the night would bring misting their minds.
