\"Did you know,\" Murata Ken said in a curious tone, \"that the term \'best man\' comes from Rome?\"
\"I had no idea,\" Yuuri replied scathingly, nervously tugging at his jacket sleeves.
\"It\'s true,\" Murata nodded, smiling serenely. \"Back then marriages were arranged, you see, so lovers would have to elope. The brides were often \'kidnapped\' from their room, and the groom would take along the \'best man\' for the job.\"
\"That\'s fascinating,\" the Maou replied sarcastically, still tugging at his clothes.
\"It\'s also where the tradition of a honeymoon comes from,\" the bespectacled man said, standing to help his friend straighten his clothing. \"Often the honeymoon would last for a month--one moon cycle--and when the lovers came back the marriage had to be accepted because there was the possibility that the bride was pregnant.\"
\"Ken?\"
\"Yes?\"
\"Shut up.\"
The sage laughed and patted Yuuri\'s shoulder. \"It\'s your wedding day! You should be happy!\"
\"I feel like I\'m going to throw up,\" the king replied, pale.
\"It\'s not that hard,\" Ken reassured his friend. \"A binding ceremony is simply the public recognition of two souls that have bound themselves to one another.\"
\"I just... What if he bails, Ken? What if I want to bail when I see him?\" Yuuri nervously chewed absently on his thumbnail.
Ken smiled. \"That\'s not going to happen.\"
\"What if he really doesn\'t want to do this?\"
\"You\'ve just got cold feet,\" the sage assured his king. \"He loves you, and you love him. Anyone can tell that.\" He rested a hand on Yuuri\'s shoulder. \"Like I said, it\'s the public recognition of two souls that have bound themselves. It\'s already happened in your hearts, Yuuri; this is just a formality.\"
The ball player sighed, the tension leaving his shoulders.
\"Now, let\'s go over the ceremony,\" Ken said, his hand falling to his side.
\"I go first, with Conrad, because I\'m the one who proposed and because he\'s going to be the one to tie our hands.\" A glance at the sage had Ken nodding reassuringly, motioning for him to continue. \"Then Greta comes with a lit candle, which represents the will of the Original King, followed by Gwendal, Wolf\'s best man and the ring holder--\"
\"And then Wolfram comes with his mother and we have the ceremony, which I will be conducting,\" Ken finished, straightening the dangling gold ropes on Yuuri\'s shoulder. \"From there it\'s basically follow along, very easy.\" The sage paused, his brows furrowing.
\"What?\"
\"I have a strange question to ask you.\"
Yuuri raised elegant black eyebrows.
\"Who usually tops?\"
\"WHAT?! Ken, I--\"
\"Listen,\" the sage cut off his king with a motion of his hand. \"The binding ceremony is completed by the couple in private. The one who usually submits has to be the one who tops: it\'s a show of trust. So since--and I\'m guessing here--Wolfram bottoms, you\'re going to have to bottom tonight.\"
Yuuri was now a brilliant shade of red. \"Or what?\"
\"Or the ceremony isn\'t complete and you\'re going to have to deal with a very upset Wolfram for a fortnight.\"
\"What about heterosexual relationships?\" Yuuri asked, curiosity getting the best of him.
\"A woman can top and still be penetrated,\" Ken said matter-of-factly. \"But most prefer to use some mild sort of bondage into play on their wedding night.\"
Yuuri groaned and suddenly realized why Anissina had been given rope when she and Gwendal got married a few months back.
\"It will be okay,\" Ken said, smirking. \"Wolfram will probably know the best way to satisfy you, anyway.\"
\"KEN!\"
Just before Yuuri could get his hands around his laughing friend\'s neck, there was a soft knock at the door and Conrad stuck his head into the room. \"Your Majesty, it\'s almost time.\"
Yuuri bit his lip, but still scolded his godfather for being so formal.
Ken smiled genuinely as he followed the two out to the Main Hall.
