Ab incunabulis [From the cradle]
The place was dark and damp. “How the hell did we and up in this mess?” I asked myself, and the answer came to me instantly, remembering the events of the past two hours.
Karin, my best friend and I, were on a vacation trip in London, and we decided to visit the more secluded corners of the city. We were not looking for trouble, but it seamed to find us anyway.
It was like a nightmare we couldn’t wake up from. We were being chased down by zombies with very sharp teeth.
At the moment we were hiding in an old abandoned building, hoping that the zombies or whatever they were could not sense us. To our horror, our efforts have been in vain, as we watched an entire mob of zombies march inside the building.
- Shit! – Karin stated –
We both got up and started running the opposite direction from those things.
The old building we entered was hollow inside. The floors had collapsed due to time and there was rubble everywhere, which made running very difficult. We headed for what looked like a back door of the old building. It seemed to lead into complete darkness, but it was better than ‘complete death’ that was right behind us. The monsters were closing in on us. We had no escape. A hand grabbed my shoulder. It was one of those monsters. I kicked it in the chest and as it fell backwards, I looked to find Karin rendered immobile by two of those creatures. I managed to get to her and pulled her from their grip as she kicked fiercely at them. We started running over the rubble again, and managed to reach the door we were aiming for. It was a dead end.
We were pressed against the wall and watching our doom coming closer and closer toward us, at a slow agonizingly painful pace. “I will NOT give up! I have too much to live for and I will NOT let Karin die like this” those thoughts looped through my head, as I grabbed a thick metal bar from next to me and smashed it into the skull of the nearest monster. Their bodies were soft, like they were decomposing or something. I fought with all my might, but unfortunately they were too many and I was only human, I would have gotten tired eventually anyway. One of the monsters grabbed my arms and gripped so hard I dropped the weapon I was tightly holding. I knew my end was coming, but I still couldn’t accept it, even as the monster’s teeth came closer to my face, I still thrashed wildly. I felt a chill run up my spine. The feeling was almost indescribable, like a cold hand ran up from the small of my back to my neck over my bare skin and, like shadows were gripping my lungs and heart from the inside. “Was this the feeling of death? NO! I could not accept this!”
A gunshot was heard and the zombie that was holding me completely lost its head. Literally it was blown off. “What the hell happened?” I looked towards Karin. She was fine. Bleeding from her leg and scared but fine none the less. I started looking for the source of the gunshot. It sounded close, so I turned around. Behind me was a man, dressed in a red coat. He looked more like a nobleman than a person that would be using a gun. He started shooting at the zombies, and one by one they fell to their destruction. The man shot at them relentlessly, with a sadistic grin painted on his face, his eyes hidden behind orange tinted sunglasses, and behind his lips I could see sharp fangs.
The massacre was finished. The monsters were all dead. Us two and the strange man were all who were left.
- Follow me. - He said.-
- We can’t! – I stated in a shaky voice. - My shoulder is bleeding from where the monster dislocated it probably, while pulling on my arm, but Karin’s leg is injured and she obviously can’t walk, and I can’t carry her because of my own wound. – I sated gathering up bit of courage-
He did not say another word, but picked up the injured girl and left with her in his arms, motioning for me to follow. When I caught up to him I noticed that Karin was passed out; probably because of blood loss. I did not even get to finish that thought, when shadows started swirling around us. The next thing I knew we were in a large room. There was a fairly big desk on one side of it, and the room was illuminated by the light of the moon that shone through a set of immense windows. Behind the said desk was a woman. Her long blond hair glistered in the silver moonlight, making her look a bit ominous.
- I told you not to bring home strays! – She said, addressing the man that saved us –
- These are the girls that wee being followed. – He replied in a dark silky tone –
- Oh? They don’t look like much…
At that, he only grinned, opulently showing his fangs again.
- I am Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, owner of the Hellsing organization.
- Pleased to meet you madam. I am Silvia and that is my friend Karin. – I said motioning to the sleeping girl in the man’s arms – and she is in need of medical attention.
- Yes, I can see that. And I also can see that you are injured as well. A doctor will be with you shortly. Alucard! Take them to the Infirmary.
- Yes my Master.
