Chapter 9

-- Tokyo Hospital--

Konoe swore that this job was giving him more and more wrinkles.

He was watching as ambulance after ambulance took away the wounded. He was even becoming worried that Wakaba was buried underneath some rubble and the police wouldn’t be able to find her.

He turned around, hearing his voice being called. He watched as a blond haired man jogged over in a white lab coat. Dirt, soot, and blood covered him as he bent over, hands on his knees, trying to gain his breath.

“C-chief, the police have found Wakaba,” Watari panted out, closing his golden eyes. “She’s covered in rubble and the men are currently digging her out.”

“Is she alright?” Konoe removed his gaze from the panting blond and followed the path that Watari had come from to reach him. He froze as he saw a tall, dark-haired man standing across the street, watching the people scurry around. A smirk could be seen on the man’s face as his eyes were lit up in sick joy at the damage that was in front of him. The man turned slightly bringing his attention to the silver-haired man.

The man’s lips were moving, but Konoe didn’t care what they were saying. Muraki was right there in front of him! The silver-haired man’s eyes locked on him, and Konoe found that every muscle in his body was frozen. As a smile crossed the pale features, the police chief felt like cold ice was running through his veins.

Konoe blinked and the two men had vanished. He frowned, his eyes darting around, but all he saw were the wounded and the paramedics.

“Chief?” Watari’s voice came to him over the screams and cries. The blonds’ worried golden eyes were locked on his boss. “What is it?” He turned around, searching for what had caused the older man to react like that.

“Watari, call in some men and have them search the area,” Konoe ordered, turning away from the blond scientist and making his way toward the car. The look that Muraki had given him scared the hell out of him. He didn’t know who the other man was, but was certain that the silver-haired man was Muraki from the pictures that he had received.

Mismatched eyes gleamed dangerously as the man watched people run around, panicking. He was currently sitting in Sagadalius’s car, waiting for the traffic to move. But he didn’t mind waiting. After all, Tsuzuki was sure to arrive soon and he didn’t want to miss the chance of seeing his precious amethyst.

“Muraki, are you sure that this was okay?” Sagadalius’s asked, his dark eyes roaming over the police men nervously. “There are many people here. They could catch us at any time.”

“Don’t tell me that you’re afraid, my friend? Don’t you have any faith in me?”

Muraki said, turning to question the other man. He smiled, directing his gaze to a dark vehicle that had just drove up.

“Trust me. It’s all part of my plans. This is only a warning to my dear Asato. A warning for him to give me back Hisoka and to watch out for himself.”

“But I thought that you didn’t want the brat,” Sagadalius’s growled, eyes narrowing at the pale man.

A snicker came from the said man as he reached up to brush the hair out of his face and push up his glasses.

“Oh, I don’t. But I just want to torture my doll. I do believe that he is coming down with emotions for my Asato, and I can’t share him.” Muraki’s eyes lit up in lust as he watched brunette exit in question getting out of his car, looking around for his boss. “Like I said before, I want to let the two trust each other, then rip them apart and bathe in their agony.”

The dark-haired man shivered as Muraki spoke. The silver-haired gang leader’s voice was dripping with venom and hate. It warned Sagadalius to leave him alone and informed him that the conversation was over. And Sagadalius was quite glad of that it in truth.

Tsuzuki hurried over to Konoe as soon as he spotted him by the car. He didn’t like the look that the older man was sporting on his wrinkled face.

“Is everything alright, Chief?” he huffed out, amethyst eyes clouded over in worry. The older man rubbed his temples, grunting.

“They found Wakaba. Go find Tatsumi or Watari for me whilst I call it in to the station,” Konoe ordered, reaching into the car for his radio.

Tsuzuki nodded and walked around, searching for the blond scientist or the tall dark-haired man. As he took in the damages, anger and sadness filled him. Nobody should have to go through this. Especially innocent people. Tsuzuki spotted Watari talking to Tatsumi, the taller brunette frowning. Tsuzuki strode over, intending to join in the conversation.

“Wakaba’s got a few burns and new injuries, but she’s hanging in there,” the blond was saying to his partner, searching through the concrete rubble, picking out pieces of what Tsuzuki guessed to be the bomb.

“That’s good,” Tsuzuki interrupted, causing the two other men to look up surprised.

“Tsuzuki!” The two partners exclaimed, their relief apparent in their voices. The brunette smiled weakly, pulling his trench coat closer to his body.

“Chief wants you two. He’s calling the station right now,” he said, watching Watari pile the pieces of the bomb into a bag, before standing.

Watari wiped his hands off on his pants, and grabbed the bag. He and Tatsumi followed Tsuzuki back to Konoe, the entire walk being held in silence.

“Watari, did you find the pieces of the bomb?”

A nod.

“Alright. I want you to go to the lab and examine it,” Konoe ordered, getting into his car. “We can go. The district police will handle this.”

The chief closed the door, ending the conversation. He gripped the steering wheel, his nails digging into the leather. Why? Why did this have to happen? What did bombing a hospital achieve for anyone? He cursed, turning the key in the ignition, the engine rumbling to life. Checking his mirrors to make sure nobody was in his path, he drove off, leaving the three detectives alone.

Watari sighed, stretching, his shoulder bones popping. He shook himself, looking at Tatsumi and Tsuzuki.

“I’m going to the lab to analyze the bomb. Maybe I can find fingerprints or something.” The two brunettes didn’t answer, only continued to stare at the other man. “Okay, you guys can go hang out or something,” Watari said, walking away, carrying the bag with him.

“Shouldn’t you go help him? After all, he’s your partner,” Tsuzuki questioned, turning to look at the taller brunette. Tatsumi shrugged, watching his partner hop into a van.

“He’ll be fine. Besides if I try to get in between him and his work, he’ll murder me,” the be-spectacled man retorted, rolling his eyes.

“Well, I should get back to ‘Soka. He might be bored.” Tatsumi raised an eyebrow, but followed the other man to his car. As Tsuzuki started the engine, Tatsumi started toward him.

“Listen, Tsuzuki, I don’t want you to take this kid too lightly. He could be dangerous,” Tatsumi said, watching the other man tense.

“I know you have feelings for the boy, be they protective or….personal feelings, but I don’t want to see you hurt again,” Tatsumi spoke, his feelings transferring from his voice to his face.

The amethyst eyed man blinked, looking at him, surprised. He smiled warmly, but the smile did not reach his eyes.

“Don’t worry about me, Tatsumi. I’ll be fine. But thanks for your concern.”

The other man sighed, looking out the window. He might as well not have said anything. Tsuzuki was stubborn, always wanting to help people, but not wanting others to get involved with him. What a stressful guy…

-Tsuzuki’s apartment-

Hisoka dropped his gaze to his cup, as he lifted the hot chocolate to his lips to take a sip. The station that Tsuzuki was watching earlier that morning did a re-run of the movie and was now showing commercials.

The movie wasn’t that terrifying in the least. Sure, there were a few scenes where things popped out of nowhere with the intent of scaring you, but that’s all they were: eye poppers. A snort escaped the teenager as he glanced back up as the station began another movie. Finally. All these stupid commercials that were flashed on about every ten minutes or so, and stayed on for at least five minutes.

Just as the woman on the screen began to , the doorbell rang. Emerald eyes flashed to the door quickly as their owner turned down the volume of the television.

Hisoka went completely silent, the low murmuring of the television the only sound in the room, apart from Hisoka’s rapidly beating heart.

‘This isn’t like the times with Muraki,’ the blond thought to himself, twitching as the doorbell rung once again. ‘Nobody is going to come running at you and force themselves onto you. Besides, it might be Tsuzuki’s friends that he mentioned earlier.’

Biting his lip, the young teenager slowly walked towards the door. He didn’t’ want to use his empathy to see who was out there, in fear that it would be worse on his end than on theirs.

Suddenly annoyed at himself for being so hesitant, Hisoka didn’t even bother to look out the peephole and yanked the door open.

With a large sneer, Muraki stood in the hallway, holding onto his white trench coat. Behind him was a large looming figure of a man, whose eyes were shining brightly with lust in the dull light of the hallway.

“Ah, Hisoka, great of you to finally open the door. Now, I know that I taught you manners, so, why don’t you invite us in..”
