Finally the two pokemon stopped talking and Pikachu pointed to Chikorita with a definite comment of "Pi Ka Chu!"
Once it was clear the humans understood that Chikorita did likewise, pointing at Pikachu and saying "Chik or eet Ta!" Then they turned to each other and nodded.
Ash and Misty watched as Chikorita picked up the egg-pokemon and stood there. Pikachu, regardless of his size stood in front of Chikorita and strung out a half-hearted string of "Pika Pee ka Pi ka Chu!" Then mimed running in the direction of the cave.
Chikorita danced on one spot then waved a hand out in the classic stop position and followed him also miming running. Both stopped just outside the entrance of the cave and turned to face the humans expectantly as Pikachu cried out in frustration.

Pikachu spoke to Chikorita again and she got down on all fours and growled as low and deeply as possible. Pikachu pointed at her then pointed in the direction of the bridge and the path the pokemon had cut through the brush with a clear and precise 'Pika Pika Pika!"
Ash followed his gestures with his eyes; "Something came out of the cave, a pokemon of sorts." he read out loud.
"And left in that direction." Misty finished. The eyes on both humans went wide with shock and they yelled in unison as they faced each other.
"IT MUST HAVE BEEN BROCK!"
