Love Hurts
Yamato’s eyes slowly began their adjustment to the darkness, while his hands fumbled against the wall to find the light switch. Yamato’s fingers eventually found what they had been searching for, they flipped the switch, and light shot through the room. Yamato’s eyes closed at the sudden appearance of light. Yamato made his way to the other side of the room and opened a small cooler, from it he grabbed a small bottle of water. He quickly opened the top and began to chug the water. The water cooled and moistened Yamato’s hot and dry throat, a wave of freshness flowed over him. Yamato having drained the last gulp of water from the bottle let a sigh from his lips. He then reached in for a few more bottles of water. While he was pulling waters from the cooler a few of the techies dropped by to congratulate Yamato on an astounding performance. Yamato thanked them for their help, and they left. Yamato turned to leave the dressing room, but caught a look of his reflection in the mirror. He stood there holding the four waters in his arms looking at the mirror. Yamato looked at the person in the mirror, he looked tired, his makeup had running slightly from sweat, his hair had come loose from its hold and had a few tweakers sticking out, the person’s eyes looked like they were hiding something, the smile that usually was on his face now was void of emotion. While he was looking at the unusual person in the mirror, Yamato heard a knock at the door. He answered without looking, “Door’s open.”
“Everything okay Yamato?”Asked Takeru stepping into the dressing room.
Yamato watched the person in the mirror put on a fake smile, then turned himself to talk. “Just peachy Takeru.”
“Are you sure, You’ve been standing there like a zombie for a couple minutes now.” Said Takeru
“Yeah I’m sure. Just tired is all.”
Takeru looked at his brother, “Uh-huh, sure. I believe you.”
“Well you should. It’s the truth. Anyways, I should get these water’s to the guys.” Said Yamato.
“Want some help?” asked Takeru putting his hand out.
“No, I got it Teeks, but thanks.” Said Yamato.
Takeru turned and walked out the room. Yamato watched his brother walk out the door, specifically how well his brother’s shorts clung to his ass. Yamato couldn’t help it, he tried to look away but his eyes focused on it. Once Takeru was out of sight Yamato was able to turn his head, he looked back in the mirror. The man in the mirror now looked slightly different, a thin line of a smile could be found, and upon closer inspection a flame was burning in his eyes. Yamato then turned and followed his brother out into seats of the theater. He was able to get out the door and half way to his friends before a crowd of screaming girls swarmed him. Yamato could see his friends and band mates snickering at his misfortune. Takeru stood near by watching the girls fling themselves at his older brother, asking them to sign shirts, cd’s, boobs, etc.
After a half hour, the size of the crowd hadn’t shrunk, in fact it may have even grown. Yamato looked to his brother pleading with his eyes. Takeru nodded and began worming his way to the middle of the group where his brother was. Takeru cleared his throat and loudly announced, “Sorry ladies, but Yamato is needed over with the rest of the band, so if you still have something you would like for him to sign, fill free to follow him over there.” There were groans from the girls, but eventually they let Yamato and Takeru continue their trip to their friends.
Yamato handed the small bottles of water to his fellow band mates. Akira took a swig of his water, “Hey Yamato, mine isn’t cold. I want my money back.”
“Well if you had saved me earlier, the water may still have been cold, now wouldn’t it?” responded Yamato.
“But it looked like you were having so much fun.” Akira teased.
Just then the bravest of the fans came forward and asked for autographs. Having succeeded in getting the band’s signatures, the rest of the crowd of fan lined up. Another half hour past before the band stopped signing, their hand’s large cramps. The theater finally cleared out, leaving just the digidestined, The Teenage Wolves, and some janitors.
Yamato turned to his band mates, “Hey guys, we’re having a little after party at my apartment, you guys can come if you want.”
“No thanks Yamato. I’m worn out. I’m just going to go to sleep.” Said Takashi with a large yawn.
“Maybe another time man, I just got me a few dates for the rest of the night.” Said Akira lifting his eyebrows.
Yamato turned to Yutaka, “Going to bail too?”
Yutaka grinned, “Please Yamato, and miss a party? I think not.”
“That settles it then. We’re off to my apartment, and then tomorrow we’ll meet up here, strike the set and that’ll be that then.” Said Yamato. The digidestined along with Yutaka began the trip to Yamato and Taichi’s apartment.
The large group of friends talked and laughed as they walked the short distance to their destination. During the walk Taichi found his way next to Yamato. They fell to the back of the group so they could talk more privately.
“Yamato I’m sorry.”
“For what?” asked Yamato.
“I missed half of your concert because I was still angry about this morning.”
“What about this morning?” probed Yamato.
Taichi let out a sigh, “I’m sorry about that too Yamato. I shouldn’t have yelled at you guys, it’s your lives, you can live them however……”
Taichi kept talking but Yamato’s attention shifted elsewhere when he saw Yutaka move next to Takeru. He watched as the two sped up slightly to break away from the group.
Taichi was too busy ranting to notice that his friend was no longer paying attention, “…Sometimes I can’t stop myself, I see the large elephant in the room and my mouth starts talking about it before I have time…..”
Yamato could still hear Taichi rambling on, so he continued watching his brother and Yutaka. He watched as Yutaka placed a hand on Takeru’s shoulder. Yamato could barely make out the signs of his brother blushing. Yamato felt his gut churn and he squeezed his hands into fists a few times trying to relieve some frustration that was growing. Yamato then heard both Takeru and Yutaka let out a loud laugh, he then watched as Yutaka’s hand moved up and tussled Takeru’s hair. Yamato’s hand’s squeezed into fists and stayed that way, he teeth clenched together, his eye gave a few twitches. Yamato’s gut was churned and knotted. Then he noticed that Taichi had stopped talking about what he had been and now was repeating his name.
“Yamato? Yamato? Earth to Yamato, come in Yamato.” Taichi said.
Yamato snapped his head to look at Taichi, he gave him a glare. “WHAT TAICHI?” Growled Yamato through his clenched teeth.
Taichi responded with shock. He stared blankly at the angry blonde. “Everything fine with you?”
“Just fine and dandy.”
“Yamato, you look like you’re going to kill someone, I don’t think that classifies as fine and dandy.” Said Taichi with a slight chuckle, hoping to lighten Yamato up.
“I said everything was fine.”
“It obviously isn’t Yamato. Just tell me what is wrong, and maybe I can fix it. Is it me? Did I upset you again?”
“It’s not you Taichi. Don’t worry about it.” Answered Yamato, turned his head back to the couple in the front of the group.
Taichi let out a sigh and hung his head. Then he finally thought to look at what Yamato was looking at. He traced Yamato’s glare, and found it was directed toward Yutaka and Takeru who were then giving each other small playful pushes. He understood why Yamato was angry all too well. He felt the same overly protective big brother flare up when boys would flirt with his younger sister. “I know the pain.”
Yamato let out a huff in response and sped up to get back into the crowd of friends, and leave the conversation with Taichi behind. It wasn’t long after that, that the group arrived at the apartment. They squeezed themselves into the elevator and rode rather uncomfortably up to the correct level.
Once they got into the apartment a quick phone call insured that a late night dinner would be there soon.
“You two really spruced up the place. I like the origami mobiles. Oh and the weaved paper chain that runs along the walls.” Said Miyako.
“Oh that wasn’t us. Takeru got bored this past week, and he did it all.” admitted Yamato
“Prodigious Takeru. You’re really good.” Said Koushiro examining one of the folded swans.
“Thanks Koushiro. I still need to run the chain down the hall though. I have another week to finish it, so it’ll get done.” Said Takeru.
“I think the cat ones are cute.” Said Hikari picking a paper cat up.
“You know I taught him how to fold those.” Said Daisuke.
“Daisuke, I doubt that. You can’t even fold paper airplanes.” Said Iori.
“I can too Iori. Watch!” Said Daisuke snatching a piece of paper. Daisuke proceeded to make folds in the paper. A couple of minutes later a crinkled ball of paper sat in front of Daisuke, “See, a kitty.” The group of friends looked at the ball, then tilted their heads to the side, then to the other side. A loud laugh came from all of them, eventually Daisuke joined in on the laugh too.
A knock on the door meant the arrival of the pizzas. The hungry friends swarmed around the newly arrived food. Before long the pizzas were gone and bellies were full. The younger generation went to the living room to watch a movie while the older group stayed in the kitchen to clean up.
“I know you’ve probably heard it enough times tonight, but you were really good Yamato.” Said Sora scraping a plate into the garbage disposal.
“Thanks Sora.” Said Yamato as he took the plate and washed it.
“You were really good the first half.” Said Jyou taking the washed plate and drying it.
“What is that supposed to mean?” asked Yamato.
“Oh dear” Murmured Jyou, “did I say that out loud?”
“Yeah, you kind of did Jyou. So what did you mean by it?” said Yamato.
“Oh ummm…..You just sounded a little off, that’s all.” Said Jyou.
Yamato just stood there. “You must have been hearing things.”
“I noticed the same thing Yamato.” Said Koushiro putting the plate away.
“You did sound different than usual Yamato.” Chimed in Taichi who was wiping down the table.
“Like something was bugging you.” Said Sora.
“I was just tired that’s all.” Excused Yamato.
“It was something other than that Yamato. We’ve heard you sing tired before, you still sound normal. You didn’t tonight, so what’s gnawing at you Yamato?” Responed Sora.
“Nothing. I was just tired.” Repeated Yamato.
“We already established that wasn’t it. So what is it?” pushed Sora.
Yamato dropped the plate he was holding into the sink. He had been pushed to far, “NOTHING! Let’s just drop it ok.”
“Consider it dropped.” Said Jyou trying to reclaim the peace. Silence then took over the kitchen. Once they had the kitchen tidied up the older group went to join the younger group in the living room. Yamato leaned against the wall watching as the older generation got settled down, Yamato noticed that his brother and Yutaka weren’t in the living room.
“Where’s Takeru?” Asked Yamato.
“He said he wasn’t feeling well. So he went to go lie down.” Said Iori.
“And where is Yutaka?” asked Yamato with tone of anger.
“I think he said something about the bathroom.” Said Daisuke, not taking his eyes off the screen.
Yamato quickly turned and left the living room. The remaining digidestined looked at Taichi for answers. Taichi just shook his head and tuned into the tv, the rest of the digidestined followed suit.
Yamato walked down the hall and saw that the bathroom was empty. Yamato walked faster and reached his bedroom door. He opened the door quietly, because if Takeru was actually resting he didn’t want to disturb him. Yamato poked his head through the door, and saw Takeru and Yutaka sitting on the edge of the bed entangled in a tight embrace. Yutaka noticed Yamato and gave him a wink. A fire burnt savagely through Yamato, in a couple long strides he was standing in front of Yutaka, Yamato reached out and grabbed the back of Yutaka’s shirt, he gave it a quick strong jerk, dragging Yutaka to his feet. Before Yutaka could respond he felt a sharp pain hit his one of his eyes. He collapsed down onto the floor.
Takeru jumped up, “What the hell Yamato!?” screamed Takeru.
Yamato grabbed his hand and winced. He hadn’t punched anyone for a few years and forgot how painful it was. Yamato stammered as he tried to answer his brother. Just what did make him do it?
“Just tell him Yamato.” Groaned the body from the floor.
“Tell him what?” asked Yamato looking at Yutaka
“Tell me what?” asked Takeru looking at his older brother.
“You know why you did it, Yamato. Even if your head doesn’t your heart does. Just admit it. Tell him.” Winced Yutaka
A wave of nervousness took over Yamato, as he realized what his injured band member was talking about. Yamato didn’t know how he knew, but somehow Yutaka knew about his feelings towards Takeru. Feelings that he hadn’t even fully acknowledged himself. Yamato was silent, he couldn’t bring himself to speak.
Takeru looked at his brother. “You have something to tell me Yamato? And it better be damn good.”
“Takeru, I love you.” Choked out Yamato.
Takeru leaned forward, “What? I didn’t hear. Speak up Yamato.”
“I….lo….lo..love you.” Stammered out Yamato.
Takeru stood up and then fell back onto the bed. He blinked a few times then said, “Yutaka would you excuse us?”
Yutaka pulled himself off the floor and walk out the door. Before he closed the door he gave both of the blonde brothers a thumbs up and a wink with his good eye. He then closed the door, he turned to walk down the hall and saw Taichi standing at the end of the hall watching him.
Taichi watched as Yutaka walked down the hall. He saw the beginning signs of a black eye on the drummer’s face. Taichi asked, “What happened?”
