AN: this fic is coming to a close soon, but don't sound too surprised. And by soon I don't mean next chapter, I just mean soon. XD. It probably won't make 14 chapters.

Part 9
3 Months, three weeks earlier: Toyz
Matt knew he shouldn't have been surprised really, but honestly, was this how they treated all out their employees?
By making them do the work and then cutting them lose before the payoff? Cutting loose as in putting a bullet in the back of their heads or a hot blade to the neck as they walked to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Granted Matt never would have been caught by either of those as he was a night owl, and paranoid as all fuck, but it was the principle of it all. He had found out, after some light digging and loose lips of a disgruntled thug, that all of the outsourced hackers ended up dead before their payment.
It was non negotiable.
Not that Matt was the bargaining type to begin with.
No he was more of the get-them-before-they-get-you type. And damn him if he wasn't going to accomplish that. He had already sent some lovely messages out to the cartels in the area, there actually being more than one, informing them about his employers group and how they were trying to fuck everyone over and pull the rug out from under them, taking their money and contacts in one fell swoop.
Trying being the key word.
Now Matt couldn't say how well their little plan would have worked if they'd managed to kill him, and before he found out he was getting the short end of the stick, but it certainly wasn't going to happen now that the cartels were definitely informed and after that mornings news paper article, pissed off.
However Matt was far from done with them. People like his employers, actually kind of irritated him. He didn't mind being used so long as they didn't think they could used him and throw him away like a piece of garbage. He was a high class hacker, not a piece of rotted meat.
He would play their game for a little while longer, as well as grab some goods for himself at the same time. He didn't need the money, but he knew that grabbing it from their own accounts would infuriate them.
He wouldn't do it yet though, he'd wait until he was almost done with the second portion before decimating their finances. As it were, Matt was already slowly feeding bits and pieces of what he hacked from them to the cartels. And that information was definitely being used.
Matt was seated on a new bed, cheaply bought, with his back against the wall and laptop seated on his legs. He was tired, having lost more sleep on this job than he'd have liked, and he was waiting for them to email and call with the second half of his assignment.
Though going from their previous two week wait Matt wasn't holding his breath for a quick callback, especially with all the problems he'd purposely caused.
Matt honestly wouldn't be surprised if it took them over a month to sort themselves out. In fact, he really wouldn't mind it. Not that he had anything to do, or rather anyone.
He'd even stooped as low as going back to the casino but Mello hadn't been there. He didn't know if Mello had left or was on a different day, but he supposed it didn't matter really. He needed to stop before it became an obsession anyway.
A few great nights of sex didn't warrant him lurking at the casino. He'd been fine with one night stands and other random screws before and he would be fine with it now. But despite that mindset he couldn't help but think of Mello's soft skin. It drove him crazy thinking of it.
And yet as he watched the movie on his laptop, the two figures molding seamlessly together, it was all he could think of.
Damn it his life sucked sometimes.
