Chapter 10: Home

Home...it was incredible, inevitable, impossible. For several months she had been in Cephiro, and now she was in her own room at last...wait. Cephiro...what was this place? Suddenly it all felt like a dream, like it wasn\'t real. Yes...it had just been a dream.

She felt a jerking pain, and suddenly collapsed to the ground. What the hell...? she thought. Umi rose to her feet again and walked downstairs.

Her parents were sitting at the table, drinking their coffee and reading the newspaper as they did every morning. \"Umi!\" her mother said when she saw her, \"You\'ve slept in more than usual today.\"

Right...it was Saturday, then. Or perhaps it was Sunday. Or summer? For some reason, it was so hard to remember anything now...was this the effect of coming back from Cephiro so suddenly? From the dream of Cephiro, at least. It wasn\'t real.

But then she remembered. Cephiro had to be real because she still felt the power of water coursing through her. And she had found something new, something she had never felt before. She had found love. She loved Rannock.

\"Mom,\" Umi choked, \"Dad...er, this isn\'t going to be easy to tell you, but...\"

And so she told them the whole story. There was no other choice. When she finally finished, they stared at her, dumbfounded. \"So...\" her mother said, \"What in the world does this all add up to?\"

\"I have to go back to Cephiro,\" Umi said, \"I know it\'s not my home. But I must go back. There\'s...something I have to straighten out.\"

\"I don\'t know whether to believe you,\" her father said, \"But if there\'s something you believe you have to do...do it.\"

\"Thank you,\" Umi said, tears running freely down her face. She walked back upstairs and concentrated hard on picturing herself in Cephiro, with Rannock. Please, she thought, Cephiro...I must return to Cephiro...

There was a blinding flash of brilliant light, and Umi felt herself hit the ground, hard. She opened her eyes and saw the familiar black bricks...

\"RANNOCK-SAMA!\" she heard Kai\'s voice cry, \"UMI-CHAN\'S BACK!\"

Umi heard pounding footsteps. She stood up quickly, brushing herself off to get rid of the bits of dust that had gathered on her clothes from the floor. ANd there was Rannock, grinning wider than she had ever seen.

\"How...?\" he asked, eyes misted over, \"How did you manage to come back?\"

\"I suppose it was my destiny,\" Umi said cheerfully, and kissed him.

Prologue

\"So this is that Cephiro place you told us about,\" Umi\'s father said, completely stunned. Her mother just looked about, admiring the bright foliage, cheerful cottages, proud mountains, glittering blue ocean, and gleaming castle. Hikaru and Fuu were pretty much familiar with the environment, but couldn\'t help but look around in awe.

\"Yup!\" both Umi and Rannock said cheerfully, at the same time. Rannock had been quiet and grim before, but something had changed, like a light had been lit insdie his darkened soul...and it wasn\'t about to go out, not now that Umi was with him.

She felt the changes as well. She had been sad and refrained from her former interests, but due to Rannock\'s mere prescence, she was healing. And now she had finally taken her family and friends to Cephiro.

\"Yes,\" she said slowly, \"This is where I\'ve been spending so much time lately. Isn\'t it beautiful?\"

Her parents, Fuu, and Hikaru merely nodded, still taking in the gorgeous scenery. \"Yes,\" her father said, \"It is. I have never seen such a peaceful land.\"

\"I\'ll be staying here, with Rannock,\" Umi explained, \"But you can come to visit any time. Remember the way I told you to get here.\"

As they agreed, she and Rannock shared a secretive smile, one that told a story: of pain, destiny, and finally redemption, all here in Cephiro. It was a beautiful tale, one that had embedded itself in both their lives, one that would be impossible to get rid of.

But it was all for the best. Because now they had memories, beautiful memories to share with the generations to come.

But, my God, it\'s so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him...
