11: Short Circuit

Chapter 11
11: Short Circuit

-3-3-3-3-

It was a perfect block by a pair of red tentacles from around the alter avatar’s neck. However, the block wasn’t where Kazuhou expected it to be. This whole time Ryuma was aiming directly for his face instead of Dangan’s.

Kazuhou collapsed onto his backside in sheer horror. The fist was so close to making contact with his face. He stood back up and stared intently at the other teen. “Impressive. I must admit you took me by surprise.” With a twitch of his eyebrow, his alter shifted its tentacles, wrapping them around Ryuma’s left arm and tossing him into the air. He landed roughly into a pile of rubble.

“You bastard!” Ryuma spat out as he crawled away from the debris and wiped the blood from his chin with his right hand. “You knocked my tooth loose.” He ran his tongue delicately over his left canine and winced. With one hard suck, it came out into his mouth. He spit the protuberance out along with a small amount of blood. “Shall we continue now?” He grinned, revealing the gap that gave him a goofy visage, if not more arrogant.

“Yes, of course,” Kazuhou replied, holding back his amused snicker. “You look like an idiot.” He crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the other’s next move.

Ryuma laughed. “I’m going to wipe that smug look off your face.” He rammed his left fist into the ground, forcing himself into the air and aiming directly at Dangan. It was predictable this time; unlike last time when he looked as if he was aiming at the multicolored alter instead of Kazuhou’s face.

A loud crack echoed through the air. Was it Ryuma’s arm? The alter avatar’s shield or tentacles?

“No!” Kazuhou exclaimed in alarm. Apparently, it had been both the shield and tentacles. He captured Dangan in his arms before it fell. He smiled in relief when his avatar’s face was still in one piece. “I didn’t know your power has grown so much, Ryuma. He gazed at the other teen, expecting an impertinent response. “Ryuma?”

The green haired teen was sitting on his knees, cradling his left arm in agony. Tears pierced the corner of his eyes as he closed them tightly. “It hurts!”

With a quick thought, Dangan vanished. Kazuhou ran up to the other teen before he collapsed onto the ground face first. “Ryuma! Please, hang in there.” He positioned his oblivious brother in his arms to where he was cradling him like a scared child. He immediately noted the blood spreading across Ryuma’s chest and stomach. “Ryuma, you’re injured, badly!”

‘Kazuhou! Please, stop the pain!’ Ryuma pleaded mentally. ‘It…won’t go away.’

‘I’m right here, brother. I’m here with you.’ Kazuhou cringed from his unconsidered error. He smiled weakly when Ryuma looked up at him bewildered.

The renegade clinched his jaw tightly as he ignored the pain so he could respond. “You…you’re Kazuhou.? B-but why did you lie to me?”

Kazuhou sighed regretfully. “I’m sorry, Ryuma. I just didn’t want to go with you yet. I was expecting you to come here later so I could think it over.” He closed his eyes, prolonging his tears from falling. He had finally had a reason to quite HOLY, but why was it proving to be so difficult? “Please, forgive me.”

“I…Ah!” Ryuma cried out in anguish. His arm started glowing, electrifying the air around it. A large spark struck the brunette square in the chest, sending him flying back into the hard cement. Ryuma arched his back off the ground and held his arm up away from his body.

“R-Ryuma…” Kazuhou groaned as he stood himself up and shook his head to clear it. Luckily, he hadn’t hit it, but the action had definitely stirred around whatever was in his cranium. It felt as if something had dislodged itself from the side of his brain. He peered at the other teen when the atmosphere fell quiet with the exception of the sparking from Ryuma’s arm. “Ryuma!” His brother’s body was completely glowing with different dull colors swirling together. He cautiously approached his brother and knelt beside him. “Ryuma?”

Ryuma was nothing but a withering mass of insignia. He wasn’t moving anymore and it worried his brother significantly.

“Ryuma…what’s the matter with you?’ The brunette felt inadequate just watching his brother suffer, which almost caused him to shed tears. “Please say something.” He realized his voice started to crack with sorrow. He waited a moment for a response, but nothing was said, not even a mental guarantee.

“Good work, Kazuhou!” A feminine voice announced from behind him.

The teen jerked his head to peer at his superior from over his shoulder. “Ms. Kujou?” He cursed himself for not getting rid of Ryuma sooner. He knew, eventually, that the others would find out he was here. They always did. They were like the bloodhounds from hell. ‘Damn it!’

The woman smiled as she directed a group of her HOLY members to take Ryuma away to the organization. “You did a fantastic job. You deserve a well earned rest.” She stood behind him, smiling conceitedly as his back. “However, I’m afraid that we’ll have to wait until Ryuma recovers. With the state he’s in, he could possibly destroy everybody and everything around him.” She let out a small sound of enthusiasm. “I can’t wait until tomorrow. He’ll be ready for destroying anything!”

Kazuhou curled his fingers into the palm of his hand with aggravation until his knuckles were white. He could do it! He could kill her right on the spot, couldn’t he? He unsteadily stood up on his feet and turned to face his higher, but she was already walking away, her hands buried deep within her lab coat pockets. ‘That bitch! I can’t kill her now though. It would cause too much of a commotion and I would be the first one to blame because I was the last one they saw her with,’ he thought with dismay. His face contorted with ire. “I will definitely kill her though.” He shortly followed afterwards, only once looking back to where a puddle of blood rested.

“Hey, Kanami? Have you seen Ryuma recently?” Kazuma asked as he rounded the corner of the hallway.

Ryuhou looked up to his lover’s question. “I saw him this morning. He took off right after he ate breakfast.”

“Yeah, but did he say WHERE he was going?” The red haired alter asked with frustration. “Anyways, I asked Kanami. Not you!”

Kanami giggled as she started coming down the hall from her bedroom. “He’s starting to remind me of you; leaving without saying anything.” She suddenly scolded her brother like figure. “I still find that annoying.”

Kazuma chuckled remorsefully. “Heh, yeah, I know.” He scratched the back of his head nervously when Kanami started giving him the ‘it’s still unacceptable’ gaze. He heard a smug smirk from Ryuhou’s direction and glared half-heartedly at him.

“I guess I could find him through telepathy.” She sighed after realizing her admonishment wasn’t going to get through Kazuma’s thick skull. “Uh…” Kanami gasped. “Something isn’t right, you guys. I’ve found him…but…he’s…”

Ryuhou immediately got to his feet, ready to dash out the door if necessary, which it would be. “What?” He asked urgently.

Kanami started to breathe heavier in stress. “Ryuma…he’s been captured by HOLY.”

It only took a glance from Ryuhou and Kazuma before they headed out the door and started running in the direction of the city. “What the hell do you think the kid was doing?” Kazuma asked, trying to keep up a steady pace with Ryuhou’s sprint.

Ryuhou shook his head. “There’s no telling with him. I have to agree with Kanami though. He’s definitely like you. Reckless!”

Kazuma snorted. “Well, he IS partially my kid.”

They both kept running without saying another word.

A/N: Damn chapter came out too short! Oh well. It was better than nothing, hai? This chapter was just to get them bonding more. In the next, it’ll probably be more Ryuhou and Kazuma. I hope!! *crosses fingers* This fic was supposed to be about them mainly…right? X_x;

Nanaka: Yes, but their bonding could get them into deep trouble. Mwhahahaha! XD

Yasei Raiden: Oh! Definitely a lot of explaining to do then. I sometimes get sidetracked with my OCs and I need to stop that! *growls at self* I’m trying to work Ryuhou and Kazuma around them. Maybe they will…er…if I say anymore it’ll ruin the fic. Oo;
