Face to Face, so far apart
Chapter Eleven
Robin was in her hospital room awhile later. She had just been told that she was being kept for another night just as a precaution. She was not really bothered by the doctor’s cautious move, her mind was on what had happened to her husband the other night, and on just who were those men that had manhandled her like that earlier. She needed some answers.
She had waited for almost two hours, then she made her mind up and left her room. With all of the questions rattling in her mind, she headed down to where Amon’s room was located. She was determined to get him to talk about all of this. She did not know how she was going to get her husband to tell her anything, but she had to try.
She slipped the room, and found the man standing in the center of his room, putting his clothes on. She stared at the man, who had not seen her come in, and was puzzled at why he was getting dressed like this. After having surgery less than forty eight hours ago, he should be in bed resting to recover fully, she thought to herself. Right then, she did was unsure that she recognized the man that she had married.
She took a few steps closer, and the man turned as she finally heard her. He looked into the shocked face that just stared at him, but nothing flashed in his eyes that was recognizable.
“ What are you doing?” She asked directly, a sternness in her voice.
“ Dressing.” He said stiffly, turning his face down from the girl’s look.
“ I can see that...” She came back sharply, irritated with the man’s single word to her. “ Why are you dressing?”
Amon simply ignored the girl’s query of him, and continued to dress. Taking a breath, Robin moved to his side quickly, trying desperately to get him to look at her.
“ You did not answer me, Amon.” She said boldly, taking her stand. “ Why are you dressing? Where do you think your going?”
“ It is none of your business.” He said flatly, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.
“ It isn’t?” She said, her voice getting louder. “ I am your wife, I think I have the right to ask that.”
The long haired man stepped away from the girl, who had moved to only a couple of feet from him. She followed him like a shadow, just wanting him to say something other than what he was saying.
The man only shot a glare at the girl, and said nothing at first, simply just stared into her eyes
“ I don’t have to tell you everything.” He finally said with a growl. “ Just let me go and do what I have to.”
Robin looked at the man with a long stare, her heart pounding in her chest like a triphammer. He had never been this cold to her ever, even in the past. She closed the distance between them again.
“ You have not even explained just what happened the other night to me.” She said, her fists clenched at her side. “ And you have not explained who those two men were, not to mention why you let them push me around like that!”
“ Just let it go, Robin.” He said, his voice void of feeling.
“ That man pushed me back into that wheelchair, and you did nothing to stop them or even came to my aid.” She spat, feeling madder than she ever had in her life. “ Why did you do that?”
The man took a few steps side ways, putting a few feet of distance between him and the girl. He then looked at the girl with a very cold stare, almost like he was trying to look right through her.
“ Just let it go, Robin.” He restated, this time through clenched teeth as his eyes flared with anger. Purposely, he turned his body sideways away from her. “ I have to go and do what I have to, so just let me and drop it.”
Robin to a single step to the man again, cutting the distance in half between them. She stood, her arms crossed across her chest, making it clear that she was not going anywhere.
“ I would understand this, if you would just talk to me...” The young hunter said, her voice was half angry and half pleading. “ Amon... what is going on..”
“ Nothing!” He spat.
“ Amon... come on and...”
The man snorted and his body tightened.
“ Enough of your fucking questions!!!” He yelled whirling around. “ Just stop it already!!!!”
The man left arm rose, and delivered a vicious backhand blow to the side of the young girl’s face. The blow threw the girl back a few feet and she crashed to the floor in a heap. Shocked, Robin half sat up, her nose was bloodied and her lip was split wide open from the man’s attack. In the depths of the young hunter’s green eyes , was the deep vortex of fear that had overtaken her.
Robin stared upwards, and saw her husband looming over her, staring with the most heartless look she had ever seen in anyone’s face. She went to say something, but it was stuck in her throat as a unseen power came out of nowhere, and threw the girl across the floor as if she weighed no more than a feather.
The power catapulted the tawny haired girl clear across the room where she crashed into the farthest wall of the room with a loud thudding sound, knocking a chair out of the way in the process. The girl grunted and slumped fully to the floor and layed motionless, her nose bleeding profusely as it began to make a pool of red on the white tiles under her head. She seemed to be breathing, but she did not move a single muscle.
Amon looked at the girl who layed there, staring blankly at what he did. The man’s face was white, as reality had just hit him squarely between the eyes of what just happened. He realized what he had done.
He threw on his overcoat over his shoulder and quickly stepped first towards the fallen girl, then he stopped. The man paused there for a moment, then turned his face away as he swore under his breath. With quickened steps, he then strode straight out of the room, without another look back.
Robin just layed there, unconscious. The stillness of the room holding the shock of just what had happened.
