Chapter 12

Zoisite waited until midnight. Kunzite was impatient, pacing around the piano room while he asked every five minutes when Zoisite planned his flight.

“Can you be quiet and stop moving?” Zoisite asked, “it's been a while since I've done this.”

The Tennou leader obliged, but it wasn't without a grunted, disappointed noise. He had wanted Zoisite to do this hours ago.

In truth, Zoisite could have, but he had been going over all the possibilities in his mind, and for the cases that actually related to what Jadeite had confessed to him, came up with scripts for what he would tell Kunzite. Of course, Beryl was dead, so it wasn't as if he would find Jadeite with her, but he was almost certain that he would find Jadeite with a woman. An older woman, probably tall, and one with a commanding presence. How would he explain that to Kunzite?

The music came back to him instantly, and his fingers found the familiar keys all too easily. He concentrated on Jadeite's image and his aura, the musical spell would do the rest.

In the music room, Zoisite would continue to play the notes, but his body was truly on autopilot. His consciousness was now on a dark and almost deserted side street, quite a distance from Kunzite's house. His form appeared translucent and flickered, which was an effect of not being able to concentrate fully on his flight. Either Kunzite had distracted him, or he was simply out of practice.

He was not alone on this street, two figures were a bit further up and walking away from him. Zoisite moved silently into the shadows, grateful that he hadn't appeared in front of them, and that the soft piano music that followed him on these flights wasn't being heard by either, at least not yet. One of the figures was a woman, the other was most certainly Jadeite. He had changed his hair, Zoisite noticed immediately, which was odd since he had kept it blond for so long. He also carried a bag, and Zoisite figured that it was probably a few odds and ends that Jadeite had forgotten in his hasty move.

The woman drew and held Zoisite attention for much longer. She was taller than Jadeite as expected, and the way she carried herself was all too familiar. He actually felt a chill looking at her, she already bore such a resemblance to Beryl. How long had he known this woman? Jadeite had said that it was always a new woman he was with, so how was he moving in with this one so quickly?

They turned a corner, and Zoisite hurried to follow. He moved silently, the only sound he made was the ever present melody he played back at the house. Jadeite would know it instantly if he heard it, but the woman would probably think it was just music coming from one of the nearby houses.

Zoisite looking around the corner, and saw the duo making their way towards an apartment building. The woman opened the door, but Jadeite held it for her while she entered ahead of him. As soon as the door closed, Zoisite rushed to catch up to them.

He paused outside the door, which would not stop him in this form. He could pass right though it like a ghost, but it allowed him to get close to the pair without being heard.

They were waiting by an elevator, the woman's face obscured partially by her dark brown hair. Zoisite moved to the other side of the door, trying to get a better look at this woman. Just as he moved, they stepped into the elevator, but not without Zoisite getting a split second view of the woman. It was Beryl's face, there was no question.

He passed through the doors the second the elevator doors closed, no longer concerned that anyone should see what would later be described as a white ghost. He watched the numbers increase, marking the floors they passed though, until the elevator paused and remained at ten.

Zoisite considered following them further, but didn't know what he would do once he reached their door. His heart was racing and his mind was scattered, it had been since he had caught a glimpse of her face. He wanted to see her again, see that it wasn't really her and he had just imagined that face, or that it was at most a close semblance and that was what had drawn Jadeite to her.

As Zoisite's mind was no longer on the spell, it shattered and he was thrown roughly back into his real body. His eyes snapped open and he gasped in surprise. He hadn't returned like that since he had first started practicing with this magic in the past life.

“Well?” Kunzite demanded immediately.

Zoisite didn't reply, he wouldn't have even if he had found nothing, but nothing was certainly not what he found. Thinking about the woman gave him an eerie feeling that he couldn't just explain away.

“What did you see?” Kunzite continued, this time placing his hands on Zoisite to partially turn him in Kunzite's direction.

Zoisite pushed the other man away. “Give me a minute,” he panted, the spell having an added effect on him as well. Kunzite wanted answers, and Zoisite needed to give him something to make him shut up. Jadeite had a lover, one he had been keeping secret from everyone if would seem, and they had moved in together. He told Kunzite this and then stood to leave.

“That's bullshit, and we both know it,” he said, always able to spot a lie. “You saw something and you don't want to tell me.”

Zoisite shook his head. “It's been a while since I used magic like that, I'm tired,” he said, walking passed Kunzite and towards the stairs.

“The Master wants to know what happened,” Kunzite reminded him, “and I want the truth.”

Zoisite paused, looking at Kunzite in the eye. “Then call him and tell him what I told you,” he replied, eager to be away from the black haired man. “You have the truth as I can see it right now.” He wasn't giving Kunzite more than that, and turned without waiting for a response. He locked his bedroom door that night, determined to be alone in his thoughts.

When morning came, Zoisite had managed to convince himself that the woman either bore a striking resemblance to Beryl, or he had been seeing things. That was all. He planned to leave the matter for a few days, and then visit the apartment in person without telling the others. Obviously this was related to Jadeite's confession earlier, and Zoisite was determined to keep it secret for him.

It had started to bother Zoisite that Jadeite was in love with Beryl. He hadn't realized it until he had seen Jadeite with that woman. Beryl, and now this woman, had such control over him because of his devotion. It wasn't really problem, since the woman was a regular human with no knowledge of their battles or powers, but suppose Beryl was still alive and now had Jadeite...

It made Zoisite's stomach uneasy. He tried to push the thought aside as he opened his bedroom door. He caught a brief glimpse of Kunzite waiting outside before he was pushed back into his room roughly, the door closed and locked again by Kunzite.

“I want answers,” he demanded.

Zoisite sighed. “Then ask your questions.” He turned away from Kunzite and walked to the window, folding his arms over his chest and looking outside.

“Who is she?” he asked first.

“I'm supposed to know every human in Tokyo?” Zoisite replied. “I don't.”

“Where are they living.”

“An apartment on the other side of Azabu-Juuban.”

“What did he confess to you two nights ago.”

Zoisite was quiet, he didn't need to answer this, the Master had said so.

“Zoisite!”

“You can't stand not being in control of us, am I right?” Zoisite hadn't changed his tone, his voice remained calm, and so his sudden change in conversation caught Kunzite off guard. Zoisite saw him straighten his posture out of the corner of his eye, a defensive gesture he often made.

“What?”

Zoisite continued looking out the window, mainly because he knew it would bother Kunzite. “Jadeite has the right to do as he wants, and if he wants to leave us he is free to do so. It bothers you that you can't keep tabs on him anymore. I know you don't actually care about this woman as much as you are letting on.”

He heard Kunzite cross the room quickly and wasn't surprised when he was grabbed roughly, pulled away from the window, and shoved up against the wall. In fact, he had been expecting Kunzite to do it much sooner. “Don't presume that you know everything about me,” Kunzite growled.

“Was I wrong?” Zoisite asked, still maintaining what he knew to be an irritating calm. He was pushing Kunzite's buttons on purpose, taking the attention off Jadeite's position and focusing Kunzite's anger on himself. “You've always needed to be in control, Kunzite. It irritates you that you can't control Jadeite, just like it irritates you that I'm not giving into your wishes right now.”

Kunzite released Zoisite with a shove and stalked away from him a few steps. Kunzite would face away from him for several moments while he collected himself. Zoisite took this time to straighten out his uniform.

“You don't know me as well as you think,” Kunzite said finally, his voice calm for the first time this morning. Zoisite was thankful for this, Kunzite could be much more easily reasoned with in this state.

“What don't I know?” he asked, deciding to see where Kunzite planned to go with this.

Kunzite was quiet for quite some time, but Zoisite was patient and he would wait. Kunzite turned, but his gaze was focused not on Zoisite, but on something to the side. He was deep in thought and whatever his thoughts were, they appeared to be troubling him.

In a brief flash, Kunzite's eyes were once again on Zoisite, and Zoisite barely had time to react before Kunzite had their bodies pressed together and his lips claimed in a crushing kiss. Zoisite moaned in surprise, but didn't fight him, he never did. Kunzite often picked odd times to suddenly be consumed by lust, and Zoisite supposed that Kunzite was right about him in some respects. He didn't know everything about him.

Zoisite's back hit the wall behind him and Kunzite continued to press into him, breaking their kiss finally only to hurriedly remove the uniform Zoisite had only just put on. It was on the floor within a minute. When Zoisite reached for Kunzite's jacket, his wrists were quickly pinned to the wall while Kunzite returned his assault to his lips, followed soon after by his neck , collarbone, and chest.

Zoisite resisted the urge to say “I told you so.” Kunzite needed to be in control, he always had. It suited Zoisite just fine. He knew he could outwit Kunzite any day of the week, and so Kunzite's percept of being in control was somewhat skewed. At least, outside of the bedroom. Behind closed doors, Zoisite would more than readily surrender himself to whatever Kunzite or the Master wanted. Especially the Master.

He had longed for the Master's touch for years in the past before he had been able to have it. If he had known at the time that he would eventually been able to feel his prince's warm body pressed into his, his hands touching and caressing every inch of him, he wouldn't have given himself to Kunzite. It was the only thing he regretted, that Kunzite had been his first and not the Master.

The Master had been able to set his body ablaze, ignite a passion inside him that no one else could. Even that first time, when he had been uncertain about what he was doing, needing Zoisite to guide him through the steps, it had been incredible. Just to be able to feel his weight on top of him, lie with him afterwards.

“You're doing it again.”

Slowly Zoisite's eyes opened. Kunzite had pulled away from him and was regarding him with a look of contempt. Zoisite was confused. “It never bothered you before. In fact, that's why we firs-”

“It bothers me now.”

Zoisite's brow wrinkled. He couldn't understand this sudden change in Kunzite, but his expression showed Zoisite just how much it was angering him. “Alright,” he said softly, “I'll stop.” The moment had ended however. Zoisite saw that as well as anyone. He went about the task of dressing himself once more while Kunzite walked about of the room.
