The Calm
Chapter 13: James

James sighed as he watched Amaya sing. God, he was in love with her; her joys, her sorrows, her coldness in battle, her ability to hunt like an animal. He’d been alone for so long and from the looks of it, so had she. Wolves were not solitary creatures. He needed to change his name. He didn’t feel like a ghost anymore. Not with her. She made him feel… like he had found his match.

The phone in his pocket vibrated against his leg. Quickly, he flipped it open. “Yeah?”

“I need to see you and Amaya,” a cold voice carried through the receiver.

James nodded, knowing that his boss couldn’t see him, he hadn’t turned on the video. “Sure, we’ll be there soon.”

Her voice floated melodically through the air as she finished her set. He was the only one that knew, only one that knew about her talent for music. The only other one that knew was dead, a man that had been a father to her. A man that she had talked about fondly one night, a man named Mao.

“What’s wrong?” she asked as she wrapped her arms about him from behind.

“Vicious wants to see us. Sounded serious.”

Amaya chuckled. “Could you tell the difference between serious Vicious, and any other emotion he happens to possess?”

“No, but we need to go, anyways.”

Amaya sighed. “Fine.”

Amaya had been first to enter the apartment, James’ head buried in her hair as he kissed her neck.

“Am I interrupting?” Vicious’ voice rang.

Amaya giggled and pushed James away. “Cut it out… dumb ass!”

“You never told me what happened at that party?” Vicious was straight to the point.

“Successful kill, one fled re wre we could take care of him. He’s dead now,” Amaya stated coldly.

“I see,” Vicious sighed. “You sure you aren’t distracted?”

Amaya sent the cold man a hard look that could make the most experience warrior piss himself. “We’re professionals. Nothing gets in the way of our completion of a mission.”

“I heard Jet Black was around the night you took out that young uppity Black Wolf,” Vicious stated.

“I killed the little prick and his friends, Jet was no where nearby,” she growled.

“Fine,” Vicious sighed. “Sith wanted to talk to you, she’ll be home soon.”

Amaya shrugged. “Fine.”

The sound of the door opening and closing alerted the trio in the living room. Sith stalked into the room with Aurora, a few bags in hand. Her dark eyes alighted from Vicious to Amaya to James, her eyes widening at him. Her bags fell to the floor with a plop. James looked around himself before looking to Amaya.

“Amaya?” Sith’s voice was barely above a whisper.

Amaya seemed confused for a second before sighing and shrugging. “James, this is Sith.”

James smiled kindly to the red head and extended a hand. “Pleasure, I’ve ‘erd ‘bout you from Amaya and from your reputation. Always interesting to meet another assassin.”

Sith nodded, watching as he took her hand in his own long fingered grip. His cerulean eyes shined with almost a teasing light as he smiled at her, like he knew a secret. His sharp cheekbones cut his face as he watched her own dark eyes.

“Sith,” Amaya’s voice broke Sith from her stunned silence.

“Nice to meet you, James,” she greeted softly, her eyes turning to Amaya quickly. Telling her that they had much to talk about.

“Again! Again, you lied to me!” Sith snapped.

Amaya groaned as she pushed away from the window. James had left hours ago, Aurora and Vicious were in Aurora’s room, enjoying a storybook, leaving the two women in relative soli. “I. “I didn’t know who he was until a few days ago.”

“You’re sleeping with him, aren’t you?” Sith asked.

Amaya was speechless, her mouth hanging open while her eyes scrutinized.

“You are, you’re sleeping with my brother! Are you going to rip his hear t out like all the others?”

“Oh fuck you, Sith!”

“Oh, Fuck me… Fuck me! I’m just going by your track record, Amaya!”

“James, he’s… different, Sith. I’ve never cared for someone like him.”

“What about the bounty hunter? Jet Black?”

“He doesn’t accept all of me, only the parts he likes. James… he embraces me, all of me. Even the broken parts. “

“If you hurt him…” Sith started.

“I’ll try not to, Sith. And I mean it, I didn’t know until he mentioned it.”

“Does he know?”

“That you’re his half sister? No! Of course not! How the fuck was I gonna tell him? ‘Oh, by the way, you little sister, the one you thought vanished all those years ago, she’s actually Vicious’ girlfd.’ d.’ Are you nuts?”

Sith raised an eyebrow.

Amaya shook her head and laughed. “It was rhetorical.”

Sith nodded. “Sure.”
