Chapter Fifteen
Integra growled at the reports before her and slammed her fist down on the desk. It was getting hard to concentrate and she knew that it was hunger she was feeling. That innocent looking bag mocked her with it's ruby contents. She shut her eyes tightly and turned away. She couldn't do it.
"You'll have to eventually you know," Seras called from the doorway. She well understood Integra's reservations. She'd harbored them herself. Integra locked eyes with her. Seras smiled brightly, "If you don't like it cold Walter pops it the nuke box for a few seconds and it does help".
Integra eyed the bag once more. "This must be very hard for you Sir, becoming your own prey" she blurted out, though not unkindly. Integra nodded, "I guess you could say that Seras. I keep expecting to feel human but I don't". The red haired vampire nodded, that was the way the curse worked. You had human moods and emotions but they were tinged with inhuman perception and intuition. So even when you weren't thinking of it, you knew you were not like Mr and Mrs Brown on the street.
"It takes time," Seras told her gently, "But please, try and eat, even if it's only a mouthful or two". It took twenty more minutes of coaxing, but with the help of the microwave and a visible tin of tomato soup, she was able to get half a bag down Integra.
"Excellect," she praised her commander, earning a glare. Integra wanted to vomit, the mere thought of what she'd just done swamped her. But try as she might, her new body would not give up it's bounty and so she sat, the edge gone from her hunger, feeling sick.
Walter came with a cup of tea shortly after. He supposed that the lingering taste of blood would not ease her mind. She sipped the tea gratefully as she peiced together what she knew. She ran it past Walter as well.
"So we know that he went to Germany, shortly after being sent back to SAS and between that time and the night of the ball he was turned. We don't know if it occurred in Germany or here though" he pointed out.
"We'll know that when Alucard returns. He's digging up some old friends", Integra informed him, "That will narrow our search. Also there is a woman gone missing near Montgomery's home. Dispatch sixth squad to his residential area. Look for clues, I know that investigations fall to MI-5 but this bastard killed me".
Walter nodded, "And the Iscariots?". She scrolled through her screen, "At least seven known agents arrived in London in the past month, two of which had returned to Rome. Peterson and his men can track the others" she said.
"Very good Sir" Walter replied, gathering up her empty tea cup and the wastebasket from the corner. "Alucard should be back soon". Integra pretended indifference. Walter marched himself over to the desk, "Integra, he has very clear ideas of how things will be now". She raised her eyes to his, "So do I Walter. Exactly as they were before".
The older man smiled gently, "I know that things aren't always black and white Integra, there are infinite shades of gray. You are no longer his master and yet he stays. Perhaps you should speak to him, about these new rules and traditions he seems so intent to follow" he advised.
She smiled at him, "You worry Walter. Please don't. I will make sure that things are done as they should be". He nodded and bid her good night, then went to the kitchen to tidy up and then took himself to bed. Alucard was not one to trifle with and the lines of war between them had been blurred terribly. Integra was no longer up against the monster she held power over. She now faced the monster who made her and who wanted her. Walter knew that there was no one short of the Good Lord Himself that could deter the vampire from his goal.
Alucard would not harm her, that he knew without question. She was nearly incapable of harming him now. But oh how the peace of this noble house would suffer before all was said and done. He grimaced at the thought, even as he made note to get a good seat for it. "Better than boxing" he mused.
Intergra felt a chill sweep up her spine and hunched her shoulders against it. She peered out the window. What in the hell WAS that? "Dawn is coming", the smooth baritone of Alucard's voice reached out from the shadows.
"A vampire knows to fear the sun by this feeling" he explained, shifting out of the shadows to stand beside her. She looked up at him, "How did your search go?" He took off his hat and glasses and his long coat and banished them to the shadows.
"I found none of my peers who had recently bitten a human and changed them" he reported. She watched him closely, now that she had no restrictions on him, he could lie to her, couldn't he? "What are you doing Integra?" he asked.
She narrowed her eyes, "Seeing if you are lying" she said truthfully. He clucked his tongue at her in a disapproving way,"You do not see a lie Integra, you SMELL a lie" he answered. She sniffed delicately and he smirked, "Since I have never lied to you, you do not know how to tell the difference. I am insulted Integra, I do not lie"
She glowered at him, "You are certain they are not to blame?". He sat down in the seat near her, set his feet on her immaculate desk, "No one in England made him" he assured her. He motioned to the scattered papers on her desk, "What have you uncovered?".
She picked through the items, "He went to Germany after we let him go. The change occurred between then and the night of the ball. If it wasn't here, then I can only assume it happened there". He nodded, that would make sense. It also made it more difficult as Germany was the hub of Europe, crowded by other countries, movement was easy.
It might have been a local vampire or one just passing through. However, it was unlikely that Montgomery was randomly targeted. He had to have made some sort of connection with an elder vampire. Most likely through the Iscariot Organization.
He rose extending his hand to her, "Come, it's going to be sun up soon, you should take your bath and relax from work" he told her. He looked down at her as though he honestly expected her to obey and she stared up at him as if he'd clearly lost his mind.
"I can see to myself, thank you" she snapped. He smirked at her again, "Of that I have no doubt but I cannot rest until you are in bed" he informed her. She arched a pale brow at him. Was that so? "Well then I guess I'll finish up here and then hurry to my room" she told him.
"MY room"
"I will be sleeping in my ow room"
"It has not be fitted with the precautions to keep you safe"
"I'll risk it"
"You are sleeping with me"
"I am NOT under any circumstances"
"Integra you test my patience"
"It's your sanity that should be tested"
"Don't bait me woman"
"Don't order me fiend"
"You are as much a monster as I now"
"Your fault!"
"Your choice!"
"Not much choice was it?"
"Intera, I'm going to punish you"
"My room"
He laughed out loud at her muttered comment. Without hesitation he scooped her up over his shoulder and strode from the office. She reared up against him, sputtering and cursing in indignation. "How DARE you lay your hands on me?" she demanded.
Alucard let his hand trail up to rest possessively on her rump. "I lay hands on what belong to me and you'd better get used to that" he snarled at her. She thumped his back with gloved fists, "Where are you taking me?" she wanted to know.
He kicked open her bedroom door and strode inside, "To your room" he told her and she felt smug. Ha! She'd won. He set her down, a dangerous gleam in his eye. She looked at him, "And why are you still here?"
He leaned forward, nose to nose with her. "I warned you that you would be punished," he reminded her, "It seems you chose to have it done here". Her lips stretched to a thin line, what was he going on about? Punishment? What punishment.
Before she could ask, he ripped through her clothing with his claws, leaving tatters that clung for a moment and the scattered onto her carpet. "What the hell do you think you are doing?" she shouted at him.
He grinned widely, "Well I'm helping you. As soon as the punishment ends you will get in that tub and do what women do and then you will get downstairs and into that coffin" he snapped. Her eyes narrowed, "Why you, how dare - " she began but he cut her off.
He tugged her face down across his lap as he sat on her bed. "Alucard!" He patted her upturned bottom lightly, "Now then Integra. Man up, take it" he taunted. His hand rose and fell in a blinding flash. Integra yelped at the contact then clamped her mouth shut.
Alucard left large red handprints over her pale backside. She struggled against him, but did not make a sound. "IF you wish to act like a child, I shall be more than happy to treat you as one" he informed her, rallying steady blows on her.
When her ass was warm and glowing he nodded and set her on her feet. Integra was angry, humiliated, hurt. She glared up at him. He kissed her forehead, "Misbehave and defy me again and I shall make certain we have witnesses.
Then he spun on his heel and left her. He did that alot she realized. She was so angry she was shaking. She fumbled with the taps and filled the tub. She poured a generous amount of cinnamon path gel into the water. The warm scent filling the room, making her relax slightly.
Just who the hell did he think he was? Only the most powerful vampire on this island, a snide voice in her head reminded her. Why did act like that though? Perhaps because this was him all along and we only caged and muzzled him. He's the alpha here now, not you.
