Chapter 18: Complications
The thunder crashed overhead as a man dressed in a grey trench coat stood near the corner of the alley. His eyes moved nervously over every form that passed him in a rush to evade the torrents of rain that crashed down upon the streets. It was then that he spotted it, a flash of black across the street, a pair of piercing grey eyes. He dashed across the road, evading cars and people as he neared his associate.
“You her?” he asked.
The figure nodded. They were garbed in a black cloak, the only skin being her neck and face that wasn’t covered by the black mask that concealed her mouth and nose. Only her eyes and her braided hair was shown in the darkness of the night.
The man took out a card from his pocket. “Three thousand woolongs, just like you asked.”
The woman narrowed her gaze at the man. “Is he alive?” she asked, her voice low and slightly muffled by the mask.
“Yeah, he’s fine. He ain’t lucid, had the big guys shove him in a rejuve tank until you say otherwise. He ain’t tellin’ nobody about yer plans,” the man said.
He could see the smile in her eyes, the cold, feral smile of a predator. “Good. He’s not to be harmed, not to be released until this ends. Until the Dragons are gone.”
“I understand. But, won’t people start lookin’ for him?” he asked.
“They wibut but they won’t have time to ask. It’s going to happen very soon. The dragons will fall!” she growled.
The man smiled and nodded. “Yeah, the Wolves and Tigers will be real pleased. They’ve got all your fund forwarded to the account you specified. All they need is proof that the Dragons are gone.”
He could see the cold smile in her eyes again, an involuntary shiver running down his back as he watched her walk forward and take the card from his hand with a black glove. He caught a glimpse of the hilt of a sword at that moment, his eyes widening as he realized who she really was. The gold wolf glinting in the pale, dim light.
“Fuck! You?” he gasped.
Her eyes narrowed as she grasped him by the shirt and slammed him into the wall. “Yes, me. Now shut your trap or I’ll remove it, scum!” she snapped.
The man nodded furiously. “Y-yeah, sure. Whatever you want. As long as the job gets done, they don’t care who you are!”
“Good.”

Faye watched Spike curiously from her perch on the couch. “What are you up to? Webeenbeen nabbing quite a few Red Dragon syndicate guys lately. I was just curious, where did you get that info on them anyways?”
Spike sighed and looked over to Faye. “I can’t tell you yet.”
“Yet? Is someone planning something? Who have you… Oh god!” she gasped.
Spike stiffened and ran over to his gaping wife. “Don’t! I promised her!”
“I knew it! She’s planning something! What is Amaya up to, Spike? Why are you helping her?” she asked in a whisper.
“Amaya’s taking down the syndicate.”
“WHAT!?” Faye screamed.
“Shut up!” Spike growled low.
“ARE YOU… are you nuts? What about Vicious and Sith? What about her daughter?” she asked as she changed the volume of her voice from a bellow to a whisper.
“She’s got everything planned. They’ll be safe, away from it when the Red Dragons fall. It’s all going down in a few days.”
“Holy Christ, she’s out for revenge isn’t she? What did they do to her Spike? Why would she do this?” Faye demanded.
Spike sighed. “They ruined her life, Faye. The syndicate ruined her, broke her spirit, before killing her. I’ve seen her, talked to her recently. She’s not the same, she’s not the same woman she once was, the woman we all cared for. She’s like… a ghost. Like a shattered mirror. There’s a reflection, but it looks warped.”
Faye’s eyes grew wet with unshed tears. “Why… why hasn’t she come here? Why is she still working for them? She was free, yet she’s killing for them! She could be safe here, she could be happy again.”
“No, Faye. She needs this. Amaya… she’s dying Faye.”
Faye stiffened. “What?”
Spike sighed and fell back onto his heels. “I had Ed go through her files. She’s had too much trauma to her body, too many injuries over the years. If she were to stop now, she may be able to live to fifty, maybe. But now…. Faye after this ends, she may not live to see forty.”
“Oh, god, Spike. We have… we have to stop her!”
Spike sighed. “I’ll try. I’ll start looking for some reason to stop her.”

Amaya groaned as she stared at the white walls of the doctors office. ‘Why the hell did Vicious send me here anyways?’ she asked herself.
“Miss Ryu. I’m doctor Winslow. Mr Viicous sent me your records and after the exam we’ve found some interesting results,” a young woman in a white coat and a casual looking skirt and top said.
Amaya raised an eyebrow. ‘What now?’
“Miss Ryu, have you been participating in any unprotected sexual relations recently?” Dr. Winslow asked.
Amaya’s eyes went wide. ‘Oh god, no! Not now!’ “Yes, why?”
“Well, Ms. Ryu, you seem to be a good few weeks along.”
“Along… how?” Amaya ground out. ‘Stop torturing me!’ she screamed mentally.
“Well, you’re pregnant, Ms. Ryu.”
Amaya couldn’t breathe. Her vision began to fade. As she blacked out her last thoughts were, ‘Oh fuck!’
~*~*~*~
She stalked down the hall, her mind in a haze. All her plans, ruined. She entered the apartment, not expecting to see Sith at the window, gazing out as she once had long ago. She missed that time. When things were simpler: Deceive, Seduce, Kill, Live. Now everything was complicated, and now more so.
“You are, aren’t you?” Sith spoke calmly.
Amaya broke away from her thoughts to the woman before her. “Yeah, so?” she growled. She was in no mood for conversation.
“Are you going to abandon this one too?” Sith asked. Amaya felt heat build behind her mind. ‘How dare she! How dare she!’ she screamed mentally, but made sure that her rage stayed behind her cold façade. “Speaking of. Where is Wraith? Haven’t seen him lately.”
Amaya grinned inwardly. ‘He found out too much too early, he’s sleeping until this ends. Would you want to know that, Shadow? That I suspended your older brother.’
“Something’s not right here, Amaya,” Sith said, her voice lowering a little. She suspected something, Amaya knew she would. It wasn’t easy to deceive one such as her.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Amaya said. She was laughing manically inside. Sith thought she would find the truth, she was joking if that was going to happen.
“You know what I’m talking about,” Sith answered.
Amaya’s laugh grew within and a smile twitched upon the edges of her lips. “No, Sith, ‘fraid I don’t.”
“Don’t lie. I know better,” Sith snapped calmly.
Amaya stiffened. ‘Does she know? If he found out, could she have as well? Has all my carefulnninnning been for naught?’
“What it is, I don’t know, but something’s not right and your in deep,” Sith said, her voice conveying concern. One of many emotions Amaya had seen emerging from the once stoic assassin.
“What do you care?”
“I care. That is enough.”
Amaya felt her voice cut deep into the dark cloud around her. Concern… someone cared, truly cared. She wanted to run to Sith, fall into her arms and cry, she wanted to spill everything to this red haired creature before her. It was then that doubt came upon her. ‘What if she’s lying? What if all she wants is a confession to take to Vicious so then he can stop my beautiful plans? What if she hates me for what I’ve become? What if I can’t be saved? I just want to die, please, just kill me, Sith! Just end this!’ she begged mentally.
She then watched as Sith’s eyes changed. Slowly, they seemed to become lighter, until they became a deep violet color. She’d never seen this before, this insanely feral look in Sith’s eyes. This was not Kate. Amaya had met Kate, had heard Kate’s voice. Kate had black eyes, much like Sith, eyes filled with sadness and fear. This one was neither of them… this was something else, something to fear. She felt herself cringe inwardly as the insane laugh rumbled from her chest like the roar of a lioness.
“Who is this?” Amaya asked tentatively.
Sith laughed again before tapering off into silence. “Who I am does not matter,” she said. Even her voice sounded different. Sounded like a lion’s purr, warm, yet terrifying. Kate sounded so… vulnerable, and Sith was so… calm and deadpan. This was definitely neither Sith nor Kate. Amaya nearly jumped from her reverie when the voice spoke again from her friend’s body. “Who you are does.”
Amaya stiffened and slammed her walls in place. No, this one would not find out who she was, or what she was. She would not be played, she was the player. Amaya examined this new form of Sith before her. She had to have a weakness, had to have a vulnerability that she could exploit. There had to be a way to control this feral creature before her. At least, for a while.
“Who you are, does,” Sith said again.
“Who or what I am is none of your business. You are not one for me to speak to, so I shall not. I’m going to bed,” Amaya answered as she stalked off.
“Off to cut yourself, you mean?” Sith jabbed.
Amaya froze and turned. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, please, I can smell the blood on you.”
Amaya clenched her fists and moved quickly in front of Sith. “You know nothing of me! You are not my friend, you are… something else. Something awoken from the depths of her soul. Something that was never needed until now, or something that was never shown to me, either way, you are of no use to me, so I will abandon you until she returns. I care not to talk to animals.”
Sith laughed again and grasped Amaya’s arms. “But you are an animal, and you speak to yourself, do you not?”
Amaya tensed and struggled in the red haired woman’s arms. “Release me.”
“I think not. I have too much to say, first,” Sith purred before dragging her into the room that Amaya used.
Amaya whimpered slightly as she felt the other woman pull her along. ‘She’s strong. Let me go! I can’t do this! I have to figure out a way to continue my plans! I have no time for this!’ she screamed mentally as she heard the door close behind her.
‘You don’t belong, Wolf… They won’t understand, Wolf… she’ll destroy you, Wolf… She’ll destroy us,’ the voice within whispered.
Amaya felt her eyes unfocus as she listened to the voice. “She’ll destroy us,” she mumbled softly. “She’ll destroy us.”
