Chapter 2 - Freedom
The next morning the fog was worse then ever when Cleao, Leki, Majic, Shamira and Orphen emerged from Fang Manor.
“This fog is going to be a bother,” Orphen said.
“No it won’t,” Shamira said, “Hold on to something.”
Shamira took a step forward.
She stood there and looked up her arms extended out to her sides.
Wind started to gather around her like a tornado. It grew and grew until the fog had disappeared.
“Nice,” Orphen said walking out into the yard.
He looked around. It had lush green lawns and trees filled with cherry blossoms. Jasmine climbed the walls of the manor giving off a swecentcent.
Majic and Shamira walked a few feet behind Cleao and Orphen.
Soon they reached the front gate of the front courtyard.
The gate, and its stone arch, reached a good fourteen feet into the air. The stone walls that ran around the perimeter of the manor would have to have been at least ten feet.
Orphen stopped at the gate looking at the Tower of Fang symbol emblazoned on it.
“Okay here’s the plan. I’ll take the outside since my magic doesn’t work well in here,” Orphen said.
“But master I don’t have enough power to attack from the inside,” Majic said looking at his teacher.
“Majic would you let me finish,” Orphen chided.
“Sorry master,” Majic said looking at the ground shuffling his feet.
“Shamira you have the power to attack the spell from the inside. All you have to do is channel it through Majic,” Orphen said.
“I don’t know Orphen,” Shamira said, “What if Majic gets hurt. The power could be to much for him to handle.”
“I can do it,” Majic said determinedly.
Shamira looked at Majic and then nodded at Orphen.
“Since you know all about it you can fill Majic in on how to do it Shamira,” Orphen said looking at Cleao who was motioning for Orphen to come over to her.
He sighed in annoyance and watched as Shamira began to explain the process of magic channeling to his apprentice.
Orphen walked over to Cleao.
Cleao got real close to him and asked in a hushed voice, “Orphen what’s a Shamanic Angel?”
“Why?” Orphen asked suspiciously.
“Just curious I guess,” Cleao replied non-chalantly.
“A Shamanic Angel is an angel wan can call on the spirits of animals to help them. They can talk to or become a certain animal if they choose but most of the time they stay in human form,” Oprhen said.
“Do they have wings?” Cleao asked innocently.
“Yes. The wings are like a butterflies or leaves. The colour of them depends on the ability and rank of the angel,” Orphen explained.
“What if their mixed colours like white and blue?” Cleao asked.
“Alright Cleao now I know something is behind this. So spill it,” Orphen said crossing his arms across his chest.
“Just tell me,” Cleao said putting her hands on her hips.
They stared at each other for a while before Orphen sighed, rolled his eyes and said, “Blue stands for protection and devotion and white stands for purity, peace and royalty of the Shamanic Angels. Now you tell me. Why are you asking about Shamanic Angels?”
“Shamira’s mother was one. I’m not supposed to tell any-one but you would probably have found out sooner or later,” Cleao said walking back over to Majic and Shamira.
Orphen was shocked.
A Shamanic Angel was very, very rare. Orphen looked at Shamira who was talking to Majic. Cleao was jumping in every now and again asking questions.
“She may be able to help Hartia,” Orphen whispered to himself.
Suddenly upon saying this he noticed that Shamira’s ears twitched and she turned to look at him.
Orphen grinned and raised his eyebrows.miramira stared straight back but was pulled out of her staring competition because Cleao had somehow confused Majic on magic channeling.
“Majic,” Shamira said, “All I do is stand very close to you and allow my magic to flow into your body. All you do is take it and cast it like you would a normal spell. Like it’s your power not mine.”
Majic looked at her and said, “When do we do this?”
“Tonight is a full moon,” Shamira said, “My power will be slightly more powerful tonight.”
Orphen joined them now.
“Then we’ll do it tonight. Now Majic you must be informed of a few rules of channeling. Do not draw on the power of the other because once you start you may not be able to stop. Also if you feel like you’re getting lost in a sea of black tell Shamira,” Orphen said, “I’m not kidding Majic don’t try and deal with it yourself.”
“Why?” Majic asked.
“Don’t ask questions Majic,” Orphen chided then he turned to look at Shamira and said, “So how about some food.”
Majic smiled at Shamira and nodded eagerly.
“What would you like?” Shamira asked.
“Can you make ice-cream sodas?” Orphen askeCleaCleao and Majic scrunched up their noses.
“Yes but I get the feeling that Cleao and Majic would prefer something else, maybe some eggs and toast?”
At this Cleao and Majic nodded.
The four of them set off following Shamira until they arrived at the kitchen.
Shamira prepared breakfast for them but didn’t eat anything herself.
Instead Shamira went back outside and climbed a tree.
Orphen caught up with her a short while later.
He sat at the base of the tree and patted the gd bed beside him.
Shamira sighed knowing what was to come and jumped down to sit beside the sorceror.
“Cleao told me about your mum,” Orphen said.
“I asked her not too. People don’t treat Shamanic Angels too well,” Shamira said sadly.
“Aren’t you a half bred?” Orphen asked roughly.
“Nope. Father was one as well but a spell was cast so that his powers were dormant. He did this so he could marry my mother. Sort of like an exchange,” Shamira replied.
“So you’re a full Sham’,” ’,” Orphen confirmed.
Shamira nodded.
“That’s how you know about the Majestic Five,” Orphen stated.
Shamira nodded again and said, “The Purity Stone must be in the hands of someone with evil intentions.”
“Doesn’t the Purity Stone effect you as well?” Orphen asked looking at the girl beside him.
“Because of my families standing and power it only affects me when I’m in close proximity to it,” Shamira replied looking up at the sky.
They were silent for a moment before Shamira spoke up.
“What’s it like?” Shamira asked softly.
“What’s what like?” Orphen asked.
“The town’s and that. What’s the world like outside these walls?” Shamira asked looking at the older sorceror.
“I’m not really the one who should describe it to you. The best person to do that would be Majic he has more of an open mind,” Orphen said, “But you’ll have the chance to experience it for your self. After all you will be accompanying Cleao, Majic and I for the rest of our journey.”
“Really. You mean I can come with you?” Shamira asked excited.
Orphen nodded at Shamira.
“Thank-you so much Orphen,” Shamira said throwing her arms around the older sorceror’s neck and hugging him, “You have no idea what this means to me.”
“Uhh yeah. You’re welcome,” Orphen said stunned.
Shamira seemed to sense his discomfort so she let go.
Orphen got over his shock quickly, noticing that Cleao and Majic were approaching them, and said, “I’d also like you to become my second apprentice. We’ll see if we can get those powers of yours under control.”
Shamira nodded her head vigorously then noticed Cleao and Majic.
Shamira jumped up and ran over to them.
“Guess what. I get to travel with you,” Shamira said.
“Great,” Majic said smiling at her.
“That’s brilliant,” Cleao said ecstatically, “Someone female to talk to.”
“I’m taking Shamira on as a second apprentice,” Orphen said turning to Majic, “It will be good for both Shamira and you, Majic. Shamira knows quite a lot of the old magic.”
Majic and Shamira smiled at each other and went off somewhere to talk.
“Having Shamira along will be good for Majic. He’ll have someone his own age to talk too. But he must not know about Shamira’s mother. Not yet anyway. Do we understand each other Cleao,” Orphen said watching the two young apprentices muck around.
“Perfectly Orphen,” Cleao said.
That night the full moon shone casting an ethereal glow over the courtyard of Fang Manor.
Orphen stood outside the front gates. Cleao stood beside him watching eagerly as he set up for the spell he was about to cast.
In the courtyard itself Majic stood ready to cast. Shamira stood behind him and was literally wrapped around him entwining her fingers with his.
“You ready?” Shamira whispered in Majic’s ear.
“Yes,” Majic replied just a softly, “How about you. Ready to be free?”
“Better believe it,” Shamira replied grinning.
The both of them nodded at Orphen who nodded back.
“Remember to say the incantation,” Orphen said reminding Majic.
“Go,” Cleao said.
Shamira immediately started to glow and Cleao watched as the glow went and surrounded Majic. Majic shivered at the sensations that Shamira’s magic was sending through his body.
“Spell of Containment,
It’s time to Break,
Release your Captive
And Dissipate” Majic and Orphen said together.
With that they released their magic.
It hit the containment spell wall with a great force but it didn’t seem to weaken.
“More power,” Orphen yelled.
Shamira increased the power output and Majic took it in releasing it again at the wall.
The wall started to weaken.
“If you do a full power blast do you think it will work?” Cleao yelled out.
“Probably,” Oprhen said.
“No,” Shamira said, “I’m not going to risk Majic’s safety.”
“I’ll be fine,” Majic said, “I can handle it.”
“Are you sure?” Shamira asked, “I’m only passing on a very small amount of my power at the moment.”
“I’ll be fine and you’re here if anything happens,” Majic said determinedly.
Shamira looked at Orphen who gave her a nod of reassurance.
“Ok,” Shamira said giving in.
They both nodded at Orphen who said, “On the count of three.”
The two apprentices nodded.
“One,” Orphen started.
Shamira moved so her whole body was touching Majic.
“Two,” Orphen counted.
“Brace yourself,” Shamira whispered to Majic.
Majic slid his feet so they were shoulder width apart and dug his feet in. Shamira held Majic as close and as tight as she could.
“Three,” Orphen said and let it rip.
Shamira collected her full power and released it into Majic.
Majic threw his head back onto Shamira’s shoulder. Everything was going black and he almost collapsed but Shamira caught him. He let out a loud yell attracting Cleao and Orphen’s attention. He immediately released it trying to get rid of the exploding feeling in his body but it didn’tawayaway.
“Majic talk to me,” Shamira cried out.
Majic said nothing he justed ted like a zombie mumuring and giving the occasional whimper.
“Orphen he’s gone into the void,” Shamira cried to the older sorceror.
“Well get him out of it,” Orphen yelled back, “You’re the only one who can.”
Shamira nodded and breathed deeply trying to calm her voice when she spoke again her voice was st est enchanting.
“Majic do you hear me?” Shamira whispered softly into Majic’s ear, “All the blackness around you is what sorceror’s call the void. You have to get out of it. Follow my voice back to me. If you don\'t get out of it you\'ll get hurt”
Majic didn’t start recovering. Instead he started to draw Shamira’s power from her.
Shamira nuzzled into Majic’s neck to try and keep from crying. With Majic drawing her power from her she was being put through a lot of pain but it was nothing to what Majic would be feeling. She ignored all the pain and gathered herself again and moved back to his ear.
“Majic listen to me. Stop drawing more of my power it’s only going to make you feel worse. You still have too much of my power in you. You have to get rid of it. Please Majic you can do it. I know you can. Just follow my voice, collect my power and release it,” Shamira said holding him tighter.
Nothing happened at first but then Majic started to shiver. Shamira sighed in relief.
“That’s it Majic,” Shamira said tears starting to spill from her eyes, “You can do it. I’m counting on you to set me free.”
Suddenly Majic inhaled deeply Shamira let the rest of her magic flow into Majic.
A few seconds after she did this a humungous wave of magic erupted from Majic’s hands.
There was a deafening explosion that threw Cleao and Orphen back a couple of meters.
Orphen immediately got up and watched as the fragments of the containment spell fell to the ground smashing and shattering like glass.
“Majic,” Orphen yelled, “Shamira.”
When the wall had stopped falling Cleao and Orphen ran into the courtyard.
There in the center, in a blue protection bubble, was Majic and Shamira.
Shamira was on her knees with Majic in front of her. Majic was leaning back in Shamira’s arms eyes shut. Their intertwined hands were together creating the protection bubble.
Cleao and Orphen ran over to the two young apprentices.
Orphen reached them first.
Majic and Shamira let the protection bubble dissipate.
Shamira put her head onto Majic’s shoulder.
Her breathing was fast and erratic. So was Majic’s.
Orphen fell too his knees in front of them. He reached out and took a face in each hand and lifted them to face him.
“Are you okay?” Orphen asked trying to get them to focus.
“Yes,” Majic said weakly, “That’s some power.”
Shamira’s eyes closed and her head slipped from Oprhen’s hand to land back on Majic’s shoulder.
“Yes and thanks,” Shamira mumbled.
“Master,” Majic said, “I can’t move.”
“I can\'t move either,” Shamira whispered.
Orphen couldn’t help but smile proudly. The two of them had given the spell everything they had.
Cleao got up and ran over to where their supplies were packed and ready and pulled out a huge blanket.
She brought it over and wrapped it around Shamira’s shoulders.
Orphen tucked it in so it covered both Sra ara and Majic so he wouldn’t get cold.
“Looks like we’ll be camping out here for the night,” Orphen said laughing.
Majic yawned and snuggled further back into Shamira’s warm body.
Shamira tightened her arms around Majic and the two immediately fell asleep.
“That’s soooo cute,” Cleao squealed.
“Shhh,” Orphen said getting his bed ready.
Cleao set about getting hers ready.
“Do you think we can help Hartia?” Cleao asked Oprhen as she was getting into bed.
“Yes and with Shamira our chances have risen,” Orphen said, “Her knowledge and powers will make it easier.”
“Goodnight Orphen,” Cleao said.
“Hn,” Orphen replied falling asleep.
