Chapter 8 The Island Library

“Why are you wearing pyjama Negi-sensei?” says Ku Fei.



“Am I? Oh I didn’t notice. But it doesn’t matter because it’s only us. But what are we doing out here? I thought we were going to the library? It’s kinda scary here.”



“This is the library,” says Yue. “It was funded by European immigrants and it’s the largest library in the world. During World War II, rare and important books from all over the world were stored here for safekeeping. Many underground levels were built to house all the books and nowadays nobody is familiar with the whole complex. That’s why we started the Library Expedition Club.”



“Who?” says Negi.



“Nodoka, Haruna, Konoka and me,” says Yue.



“But I thought we were coming here to study.”



“We are going to study,” says Asuna. “When we have found the right book.”



“And what book is that?”



“It’s the magic book, which makes the reader smarter.”



“But Asuna, I thought you didn’t want to use magic?”



“Well, this is an emergency. You see, if our grades stay this bad something really bad is going to happen.”



“Asuna, will you come here and help me,” shouts Kaede. “This door is very heavy.”



“I’m coming.” She walks away and Negi stands wondering what she meant. “Something really bad going to happen? She knows about my final trial? She must have heard it from Yuuna and Sakurako and now she wants to help me becoming a real teacher. I really admire this girl.” A warm feeling is welling up inside him. “And the others too, who are being so kind to come with her. How wonderful students I have, I will do absolutely everything I can to help them.”



“Are you coming Negi-sensei?” shouts Makie. “The door is open.”



“This is a secret entrance only the Library Expedition Club knows about,” says Haruna. “The main doors are locked so we cannot get in there.”



“Wow, look at all those books,” says Negi when they have walked down several staircases and they are standing in a large hall. “I want to take a look.” He approaches one of the many big shelves. “This book is very rare.” He tries to take out a book, but suddenly an arrow flies through the air.



“Look out sensei,” Yue shouts and he barely avoids getting hit in the head by the arrow.



“You should be more careful Negi-sensei,” Yue says. “In order to stop thieves there are a lot of traps here.”



“But where are Haruna and Nodoka? I cannot see them.”



“They remained at the ground level,” says Yue. “We have contact with them through our cell phones.” She picks it up. “Haruna! This is Yue. We have reached basement level 3.”



“Got it. Give it your best,” Haruna is answering.



“I’ve got this map,” says Yue. “We’ll have to go down to level 11 and then there’s a passageway and we should be able to find the book.”



“It’s 7 o’clock now, we should be back in time for bed, right?” says Makie.



“No problem. Leave it to us veterans,” says Konoka.



“Well then, let’s go,” says Yue. “They say that middle schoolers are forbidden to go here, so I think we are the first.”



“I’m scared,” says Makie while they are going down a spiral staircase. “Let’s go back.”



“No way!” Asuna thinks. “I’m not taking primary school again. We’ll have to find that book.” “Hey Negi-sensei,” she whispers. “Protect us with your magic powers, will you?”



“Um, I kinda sealed it, I cannot use my magic for three days.”



“Great,” Asuna thinks. “Why does he always have to do the opposite of what is useful?”



They are coming out in another great hall and here they can walk on top of the bookshelves.



“Hee hee, this is fun,” says Ku Fei, but suddenly Makie falls down from a trapdoor. It’s a long way down to the floor, but as a gymnast she always has her ribbon with her and she uses it to hang on to something before she hits the floor. They all climb down, but then the bookshelf is falling over and in a few seconds they will be buried in literally tons of books.



“Get out of the way,” Kaede is shouting and she and Ku Fei are hitting and kicking the books at a tremendous speed so none of them are falling on the other explorers.



“Amazing! How is that possible?” Negi thinks. He doesn’t know that they both are martial arts experts.

They continue but Negi stumbles several times and Asuna has to help in certain passages. “I’m sorry, I’m not as athletic as you are,” he says.



“I shouldn’t have brought him,” Asuna thinks. “Without his magic, he is nothing more than a liability.”



The next room is not so big and there’s a table and chairs, so they sit down to eat their packed lunches. Yue calls the above ground team and tells them everything is ok.



“You are freezing Negi-sensei,” says Asuna. “It’s not strange; you are only wearing your pyjama. Here, take my jacket.”



“You are very kind to Negi-sensei today,” says Kaede. “Is there something going on between the two of you?”



“Of course not. But he’s not fit out for an expedition like this. Somebody has to take care of him.”



“And she’s very good at it,” says Konoka. “They even sleep together in the same bed.”



“Konoka!” says Asuna shocked and embarrassed. “It’s not that I want him there, it’s because he comes in on his own.”



“Asuna looks just like your sister, doesn’t she?” says Konoka.



“She doesn’t look like my sister, she smells like her. Asuna smells so good, especially on her neck and her bosom.” He doesn’t get to say anymore because Asuna pops a sandwich into his mouth.



“What a shocking secret to be revealed,” says Kaede. “I bet you guys are even sleeping naked?”



“Not Negi-sensei,” says Yue. “He is too decent for that. But we know that Asuna likes to undress in front of him. She has even done it twice in the classroom this week.”



“That was not intentionally,” Asuna shouts. “It was…”



“Oh yeah? And what about the time you were running naked around the dorm chasing poor Negi-kun? Was that unintentionally also?” says Kaede.



“Aah…you…” Asuna doesn’t find words to describe the anger she feels.



“I’ll never forgive you for this,” she hisses to Konoka. “From now on I’ll make a wall around my bed and you can sleep with Negi for the rest of the year. If you don’t want to, I will force you.”



“It’s fine with me,” says Konoka. “I was waiting for you to offer him to me. I think it was a little selfish of you to keep him to yourself all the time.”



“I also want to sleep with Negi-sensei,” says Makie. She is standing right beside Konoka.



“Me too,” says Ku Fei.



“Fine, just strip off your clothes and take him. I don’t want anything to do neither with him nor you.”



“Maybe we were a bit too mean to Asuna this time,” says Makie. “I think we should apologize.”



“You’re right,” says Konoka. “Let’s get Kaede and Yue.”



“We are sorry for what we said Asuna,” says Yue. “We didn’t mean to be nasty.”



“It’s ok. But please believe me when I say that there’s nothing going on between Negi-sensei and me. We just share room, that’s all.”



“We believe you,” says Yue. “But remember that in a girls’ dorm, a secret is not kept hidden for long.”

They have all finished eating now and they continue their expedition.



“Seems we have reached the bottom now. There’s water on the ground,” says Yue.



“This is like a lake. It reaches way above my knees,” says Ku Fei.



“Ueeh, my panties are soaked,” says Makie. She almost stumbled and got her butt in the water.



“So take ‘em off then,” says Kaede.



“But I didn’t bring spare ones. I can’t go without panties.”



“Sure you can. You will catch a cold if you go with soaked panties. Let me help you.” She pulls down Makie’s wet panties and takes them off in the water. “How does that feel?”



“It feels good, but…”



“Don’t worry, you still have your skirt on. If you don’t jump around too much, nobody will see your cute little butt.”



But Kaede is wrong. Next is the passageway and they have to crawl on their hands and knees. Yue is first, then Konoka, Ku Fei, Negi and Kaede. Makie is behind Kaede and Asuna comes last. And she is looking straight into Makie’s exposed crotch. “Better not say anything,” she thinks. “If Makie likes to go without panties, it’s her fetish and I’m not going to ruin the fun for her.”



The passageway is long and they have to keep tight together so they will not lose each other.



“I feel like gynaecologist,” thinks Asuna. “I have never been able to study a vagina so close-up before. Is this how I look also?” But without warning Makie stops. “Hey, don’t stop so sudden,” Asuna says. “I almost…” She was going to say: “got my nose in your anus,” but she stops it.



The passageway is getting narrower and they can barely press themselves through. But then it widens out again and there’s a hatch above them.



“I don’t’ think anyone has been here before,” says Yue. “It’s only us middle schoolers who are small enough to come through here.”



“My clothes are all dirty,” says Konoka.



“Yeah, all of us are dirty,” says Yue. “But now it’s just up here and we should be there.”



They open the hatch and come up in a room with two giant statues.



“Look, there’s the book,” says Yue. “We have found it.”



“It’s the legendary book of Melkisedek,” says Negi.



“You know it?” says Asuna.



“This is a magical text of the highest level. It’s true that you get a bit smarter by reading it, but it’s not as simple as that.”



“What do you mean?” says Asuna.



“Ah, lets’ find out,” says Yue and walks towards to where the book is. Makie, Ku Fei and Kaede are following her, but suddenly the floor disappears underneath them. They don’t fall far; underneath the floor there is a big twister board. But then one of the statues is coming to life and it speaks.



“If you want this book, you’ll have to answer my questions first,” it says.



“I’ve heard that voice somewhere before,” Negi thinks.



The others are too shocked to say anything and the statue continues: “First question! What is the English translation for difficult?”



“Everybody calm down, it’ll be ok,” says Negi. “If you answer the questions right, we should be able to get out of this trap. Just press the corresponding translation letters for difficult on the twister board.”



“But we don’t know that,” says Makie.



“Sensei, what is it?” says Ku Fei.



“I can’t give you the answer. You must figure it out yourself.”



“I got it, it’s “Muzui”, isn’t it?” says Yue and the girls put their hands on the right letters.



“Question two! What is cut?” says the statue.



“I got it, it’s “Kiru”, says Kaede.



“That’s good,” says Negi. “Now you must put a hand or a foot on the right letters. And remember you’ll get disqualified if you let go off one of the buttons.”



Some questions later the girls are twisted around each other in a huddle. Makie is standing bent over Asuna and her skirt has been pulled up so all her cute little butt is pointing up in the air. Asuna underneath her has her nose dangerously close to her. “If you pee now Makie, I’m going to nail you to the nearest tree when we get out of here,” she thinks.



“Final question!” says the statue and the voice sounds a bit shivering. “What’s the translation for dish?”



“There’s definitely something familiar with that voice,” Negi thinks. “If only I could figure it out.”



“Do we have enough hands vacant?” says Asuna. “It is “osara”.



“I got it,” says Ku Fei.



“Me too,” says Kaede.



But Asuna and Makie get it wrong on the last part and pick “ru” instead of “ra”.



“Wrong answer, “osaru” means monkey,” says the statue and a giant hammer falls down smashing the floor to pieces and Negi and the girls are falling down a long shaft.



“Asuna, you monkey,” shouts Ku Fei.



“Negiiiii!” shouts Asuna and she manages to grab him and they are clinging on to each other while they are falling down, down.
