Chapter Two
The Mystics Are Revealed
-----------------------------

“It’s you twenty second birthday tomorrow is it not?” He replied in a whispered voice.

“Yes as you should know.” Taichi answered the question.

Yamato’s hand fell from his hair and swung gently by his side. As Taichi watched an eerie chill ran down his spine. Quickly he threw his arms around himself and shivered. Yamato’s arm now seemed to be swinging with the breeze blowing around them. As he watched the scene in front unfolding it seemed almost hypnotic.

“Remember when I turned twenty two? Of course you do but you don’t remember it all. We came here to celebrate but something happened. Do you remember?” His voice was filled with inquisitive and unknown answerable questions.

“What do you mean Yama? We came up here and we……” He stopped abruptly.

His arms fell against the log. His eyes flickered as he scanned the area around them. Soon they landed upon a small rock which looked like an alter. His eyes widened then he shut them tight. His mind ran backwards, back to Yamato’s birthday. He watched as the two of them walked into the clearing. They laughed and joked but something happened…. Yamato clasped. A woman appeared, cloaked and hooded, her features hidden to the world. She walked towards Yamato and leant over him.

“My young boy. You are one of a chosen few. Blessed with abilities far beyond that of any human perception. You are a Mystic. Your love for the rivers and lakes will be a guide to your new found abilities. Trust your senses…..” The woman said in sweet gentle voice.

Slowly she craned her neck to look at Taichi.

“Trust your heart.” Her voice changed, it became filled with lust.

As quickly as she had appeared she was gone but before she went she placed a hand on the tall blonde laying on the floor. When her hand left his a blue symbol was left burnt onto his hand. A small circle containing that what would become Ying and Yang glinted in a light blue. The two halves did not touch but hovered apart from one another. On the left of the circle was what seemed like a horn pointing upwards and on the other side was another horn pointing downwards. The light blue colour of the symbol burned brightly then faded.

“You will be next!” The woman’s voice echoed through the clearing.

Slowly Taichi opened his eyes and they met with Yamato’s. The blonde had not moved from where he stood. His eyes seemed to glow brighter today, as if the sky itself was pouring out them. Slowly Taichi tilted his head and looked deeper into his friend’s eyes. To his surprise his earlier guess was wrong; it was not the skies that poured from his eyes but the waters instead. Water thrashed violently about around the blackness of his pupil.

“I remember…. I remember it all.” He stuttered at Yamato.

“I glad to hear Lizzie didn’t completely make you forget.” He said half heartedly.

“Lizzie… I take it that’s the woman’s name?” Taichi questioned.

He nodded in reply.

“Wait she said you were a Mystic! Mystics are only legend. They were used to scare us.” His voice filled with confusion and wonder.

“Hold on, hold on. What’s a Mystic?” Vermillion asked.

Taichi lifted his head from his arms and opened his eyes. The fire had gone and the deep brown that they should be had returned. Taking one last drag of his cigarette he stubbed it out on the table. He placed his arm back on top of the other and sat up straight.

“A Mystic is what would later be known as Witches and Warlocks. Now if you don’t mind.” He said in an agitated voice.

“Sorry do carry on.” Vermillion quickly replied.

Yamato walked towards Taichi and squatted in front of him. Reaching his own hand out he took the brunettes hand.

“Mystics are real. The village was built by Mystics until our ancestors came and threw them out. One thing they didn’t know was that one Mystic survived. They were not cruel enough to throw a pregnant woman out so they took her in. Her child was born and grew up. The mother disappeared and the boy fell in love got married and had kids. The gene lived. As he had married a non Mystic and his powers had not been taught to him he was as good as mortal but his powers passed on to his children. Soon there was at least one Mystic gene in every family. When the right child was born he would carry on the Mystic line. Lizzie or Elizabeth is the last Mystic, the mother of the boy. All the others where murdered to purify the village but now the time has come, twelve children have been born. They have been born almost pure Mystics. Only once they have learnt to control their powers will they become true, pure Mystics. I am the first and you are the next. Do you understand?” Yamato’s voice changed from passion to sorrow throughout his tale.

Slowly Taichi pulled his hand away from Yamato, rose from where he sat and stepped backwards over the log. Yamato quickly stood up. His expression was filled with worry and hope. Taichi’ on the other hand was filled with fear and horror.

“I understand. I understand completely. Your sick Yama, you are very sick. What ever happened to you last year was very tragic. That woman has filled your head with lies, corruption and deceit. You need help.” He stuttered his words as he spoke.

Slowly he stepped back. Watching Yamato’s every move. Yamato just stood an watched as his friend back away from him. Suddenly a loud thud was heard, Taichi’ heel collided with a small pile of rocks. He stumbled and fell back. He landed hard against the ground. The leaves blew up around him and settled back on the ground. Agonising pain shot through his entire body. He eyes fluttered and fire seemed to appear around him. A heavy weight then appeared on his chest. Lizzie was sat on him and her face was drawing ever closer to his.

“Hush my young. Your time has come. They lie to you. They know the truth. You were born today and today you will gain you abilities.” Lizzie spoke in a gentle voice.

Her hand reached down to his and grasped it tightly.

“You are one of a chosen few. Blessed with abilities far beyond that of any human perception. You are a Mystic. Your love for the fires and the sun will be a guide to your new found abilities. Trust your senses…..” Her gentle voice was so soothing.

Turning her head she looked at Yamato.

“Trust your heart!” As before her voice turned to that of lust.

She removed her hand from his. The weight was gone along with Lizzie. Where Lizzie’s hand had rested there was now three circles, a small one in the centre and bigger one around that and a bigger one around that. Around the circles were eight arrows placed in the positions of a compass. The symbol burned a bright orange before vanishing. Taichi shakily got to his feet and rubbed his head. Yamato now stood right in front of him. The brunettes eyes widened and he turned and ran. Ran out of the clearing and into the woods, suddenly Taichi tripped and fell. He began to roll along the ground and came to a sudden halt as he rolled into a tree. Voice then began to echo through the woods. Quickly he sat up.

“Who are you?!” He shouted in distress.

“Where are you?! What do you want from me?!” He stumbled to his feet and looked around him.
The voices grew louder, soon they were in his head screaming at him and he couldn’t understand them. Taichi screamed in response and threw his arms outwards. Suddenly his hands burst into flames and the voice went, he stopped screaming and looked at his hands in shock.

“Maybe I can help.” Yamato said kindly as he walked towards Taichi.

Yamato raised his hands. His last two fingers curled inwards and touched his palm. His thumb out to one side and his index and middle finger were pressed close together on both hands. Water began to appear around them swirling in mystical shapes. The earlier water that has thrashed around his eyes were now calm. Slowly he brought is hands forward towards Taichi, the water flowed from them and swirled in the air snaking its way towards the fire. The blue liquid wrapped itself around the fire and doused the flames. Yamato’s eyes returned to normal the water lost control and fell to the floor. The blonde smiled.

“I guess I need a little more practice.” He said with slight laugh.

Taichi’ breath was short. His eyes were filled with confusion along with the expression on his face. He fell to his knees and brought his hands in front of him. He looked at them with wonder and fear.

“How can this be? I am now a work of the Devil.” He mumbled quietly.

Tears appeared in his eyes. Her buried his face in his hands. Yamato ran to him and fell be his side. He wrapped his arms around the crying man.

“You are not something the Devil has created. You are better then that. We are better then that. Don’t worry I will protect you.” He said comforting his friend.

Taichi got up the chair and took a long drag from the new cigarette he had begun to smoke. He walked over to the window and placed his hand against it. The smoke spiralled upwards as a tear formed in his eye.

“Who would have guessed you were right and wrong that day?” He said in a low whisper so Vermillion could not hear.
