Chapter 2 – Closing In
Usagi made it through the day and when the chimes sounded she sighed in relief. It had been another long day of trying to ignore all the sad stares and whispers. Within three days everyone had heard about Mamo-chan’s disappearance. Stuffing her papers and books into her bag she hurried away from her desk.
She hurried through the door thinking of the chocolate shake awaiting her at the Crown Arcade. Eyes down she was trying to ignore the hub of excitement around her.
Crashing into a wall of muscle for the second time in one day she cringed. ‘Why me, kami-sama, why me?’ When warm hands caught her around the waist preventing her from falling, her breath caught in her throat.
“Odango, we have to stop meeting like this.” The familiar voice did strange things to her system and she could feel a faint blush staining her cheeks.
“Gomen…I guess this time it was my fault.” She ducked her head, shyness overwhelming her. Staring at the floor she was shocked when a finger gently raised her chin. Glancing up into his bright blue eyes she was surprised at the emotion roiling there. The world around her slowly faded away and she stood trapped in his hypnotic spell.
“It’s all right.” Seiya’s words finally broke the spell and she backed up a step wondering at the strange moment. She ducked her head once more before speaking again.
“Well I really have to go.” She gave him a small smile before hurrying away.
He stood staring after her lost in thought. Even when she was long gone, he was still pondering things. A hand in front of his face finally pulled him back to awareness.
“Tell me you haven’t already found someone?” Smoky green eyes regarded him coldly. His friend Yaten stood nonchalantly eyeing him.
“Fine I won’t tell you. So what if I have? She’s a real beauty and innocent too.” He smirked slightly trying not to give too much away.
Yaten glanced at him irritated. “You really need to consider this more, besides that why were you staring off into space? You know what Taiki will say so I will just save my breath.”
“Just plotting, no sweat, let’s go find some place to eat. I am starving.” He smiled at Yaten and glanced around as they exited the hallway looking for a tall dark head.
“So does Miss innocent beauty have a name?” Yaten tried to tease his friend but it fell short and ended up sounding sincere.
Seiya grinned at Yaten’s old tricks. “Actually she does and it is…Odango.” He said no more hoping to irritate his friend even more by not revealing more.
“Odango?” With a puzzled look Yaten continued, “What kind of name is that?” He glanced curiously at his longtime friend and waited.
“I don’t know, you will just have to see her to understand. Come she is definitely heading this way.”
With an angry glance at Seiya, Yaten responded. “Knock it off, you know there are rules that you cannot break.”
“Who said I was breaking the rules, tracking her sweet scent is not against the rules so get over it.” Seiya’s flippant tone irritated Yaten even more.
“You know what I mean.” He stopped there hoping Taiki could talk some sense into Seiya later on.

Usagi strolled towards the Arcade keeping to herself. Feeling someone watching her, she slowly stopped and turned around. The street was jammed with people, everyone rushing everywhere. Seeing no one that caught her attention she turned back around and quickened her pace. When she reached the doorway of the Arcade she turned around and glanced back a second time, still seeing no one she turned around and slipped in the door.
Smiling in relief, the sight of Motoki busy wiping down the counter was oddly comforting. She walked up and sat on a stool. Motoki turned around hearing her approach.
“Hey Usagi-chan would you like your usual?” His discerning eyes studied her closely looking for signs of distress.
She gave him a weak smile, propping her chin into her hand. “Sure why not?”
He busied himself with making her chocolate shake and pondering how best to ask her the hard questions. Deciding to just ask he turned around and handed her the shake. Leaning forward on the counter he smiled gently.
“Usagi-chan Are you doing okay?” He kept his tone light hoping she would respond.
She thought for a moment before a sigh escaped. “Yeah I guess, Motoki-oniisan have you heard anything at all?”
Sadly he shook his head. Mamoru-kun had been his best friend and it bothered him that Mamoru would just up and disappear. ‘He never seemed like a flaky sort of person.’
Usagi watched as he shook his head and then glanced away. She did not want to see pity on his face. Hurrying with the milkshake she wasn’t surprised when suddenly she had a cold head ache.
“Well Motoki-san I have to be going, I will stop in again soon.” She waved and turned heading for home.
------
Sapphire eyes watched her enter the arcade and he waited patiently. It was less than ten minutes before she came back out. He followed her easily staying out of sight. Just watching her innocent body brought his desire to a painful edge. Bumping into her twice had given him a taste to savor. Her skin soft as silk and her scent purely feminine.
He had already held her close and tasted her sweet skin, if only in her dreams. That had been the first of many tantalizing experiences yet to come. ‘I will have her and soon. With the web I am spinning she will have no where to run except straight to me.’ His smile, male arrogance and primal lust, lacked any softness. It was the smile of a hunter tracking its prey.
When she reached her house he turned heading back to their apartment. ‘Thank god today was cloudy and overcast otherwise it might not have been so fruitful.’ When he reached the building Taiki was waiting for him. Amethyst eyes regarded him balefully and he sighed knowing a lecture was coming.
“So I hear you have already found someone?” Taiki leaned negligently against the wall waiting for answers.
“I see Yaten could not wait to tell you of my misdeeds.” Seiya said no more irritated by this interrogation. He walked on by Taiki heading for the elevator.
“Hey you didn’t answer me. Look we cannot be screwing up a second time. London was bad enough we came close to dying. Do you want your head separated from your body?”
Seiya’s frustration reached its boiling point. “Do I really have a choice it will happen sooner or later I would just like to enjoy whatever time I have left? Is that too much to ask?” His snarling tone stopped Taiki from continuing his lecture.
“Just don’t get us in trouble and you will have plenty of time left.” Taiki threw him a warning glance before turning and heading out. Seiya continued on towards the elevator.
-----
Usagi lay deeply asleep, never seeing the figure that stood over her. He stood unmoving, resisting the urge to take her immediately. He knew what she dreamed of, and it excited him. He could sense the need and the frustration in her dream. ‘I want her invitation. There would be no pleasure in forcing her.’ Smiling he leaned forward whispering “Sleep well Odango” before kissing her gently on the forehead. Tracing a finger across her sensuous lips he was not surprised when she moaned in her sleep. “Soon my sweet, very soon,” leaving her a small token, with a last glance at his sleeping salvation, he disappeared.
------
Usagi awoke tired and listless. She could not remember her dreams from the previous night only the clinging sense of longing stayed with her. She opened her eyes and slowly sat up. Setting her hand down, she felt a sharp prick.
Sucking her breath in she pulled her hand back to find a glistening drop of blood. Looking down she was amazed to see a blood red rose lying on her pillow. She sucked on her finger tasting the sharp flavor of blood, pondering where the rose had come from.
Shaking slightly she reached out hesitantly and picked up the rose. Running a finger over the silken petals she inhaled the fiery scent. ‘But someone had to be here to leave it.’ The thought had her shaken up.
Her eyes jumped around her room looking for subtle hints. At first nothing seemed odd until she realized what was missing. The picture of Mamo-chan and her was gone. The frame sat empty on her dresser. Shaking her head she hurriedly dressed and headed for the Arcade.
