The Dream Part 1
Junior stood quietly upon the cliff. He felt cool dirt beneath his feet as he twitched his toes. Slowly his body lifted from the ground. He watched the wind sweep over the grassy plains below him. The clouds rushed across the sky, covering and uncovering the sun. He closed his eyes as air washed over his face, snapping at his ears until they were raw and pained.
The cliff hung over the deep valley like an ominous tower. Its shadow cast far to the west as the sun rose. The wind had a sweet scent from the grass below and the hemlock that stood behind him. He smiled, sensing no danger and allowed his body to relax. Breathing deeply the scents of pine and lavender, he a calmness that was unfamiliar within him.
Suddenly his body gave out from under him and he fell to the ground. Though his fall was not far, his legs wobbled with instability and he collasped beside a large stone. He lay trembling as he felt fingers running through his long hair. Golden eyes fell upon the young boy as he struggled to his feet.
Junior attempted a scream but nothing came from his lips. That man, he thought remembering all the other dreams. He turned to run but found only the cliff's ledge that jutted out over the valley. He turned again, facing the man. If I can manage to dodge him, then maybe I can escape into the forest. He paused, examining the statuesque figure, then ran quickly around the rock and fled into the woods.
The man turned gracefully on his heels and began to walk after him. Junior panted but continued knowing he was being pursued. The trees were evergreens with short, sharp needles. He stumbled over pine cones and brushing branches aside as he ran. Sap stuck in his hair, tangling and catching it on needle prongs.
At times he felt the man was right behind him, but when he would turn to look for a white kimono he saw nothing but trees. Junior became very tired, he was sure he had lost his hunter and now noticed sunlight ahead of him. The other side of the forest, he thought with a leap of hope in his chest. He parted the branches, blinking at the bright rays, and stepped out of the firs.
He gaped. The cliff, the valley, the rock, and the man all stood before him. He was out of breath and lost all hope. His legs felt numb, his barefeet were sore, with his head throbbing he collapse once again.
Junior's eyes flew open. He was sure that he would be awake and in his own bed, suffering from the nightmare again. But he felt something hard and cool against his stomach. His hands were heavy and he attempted to get up only to find shackles about his wrists and feet. He thrashed wildly and then felt a small tug on his hair.
He turned his face and saw the man. His elegant kimono was pulled open, exposing his pale chest. In his right hand he held an ivory comb which he gently worked through Junior's knotted hair. He smiled seeing the boy awake. He's been waiting for me to wake up, Junior thought.
He man stood, satisfied with his work. He walked back towards the trees. Out of the corner of his eye Junior saw him carefully undress and rest his clothing on one of the tree's branches. His kimono, hakama, armor, boa, and laid his swords in the tree. The sight might have been amusing to Junior had he not been in such a position.
