March to War
Chapter 2- March to War
Goku landed the car in front of the small hut that he called home. Chi-Chi was off visiting, and Gohan had been living in the small town a few miles away. This meant Goku had been living by himself for the past few weeks, with the exceptions of Pan’s visits for training. It showed. The lawn was the only thing that was in any way neat, a result of Goku training on it. Otherwise, the house was in shambles. The sink was filled with dishes, and there was half eaten food all over the place. There was a small place cleared in front of the television, ensuring he had a clear view when he ate. Though he lived a simple life, Goku was addicted to the news. It generally served as the best way to find out when there was a good fight to get involved in. There wasn’t much action in the personal category, but he and the rest of the Z fighters had already intervened in at least two wars, and had provided much needed aid during several natural disasters. It wasn’t as fulfilling as combat, but it still let Goku feeling pleased, and some of the money they had earned as rewards helped satisfy Chi-Chi. The other reason was that Chi-Chi had had Bulma rig the TV so that only news broadcasts would come in, so that the boys would learn.
He had left it on when Pan had summoned him, as Goku had been watching the latest reports on several rampaging monsters in the northern district. They hadn’t looked like much of threat, which is why he had sent Pan out by herself. He thought it might have given her way to work off some of that stress she had built up. Instead, she had found some boy, who could quite possibly be a Saiyan. Goku wasn’t worried though. If the boy was a Saiyan it was unlikely he could reach the super Saiyan levels, and there was no chance he could reach SS4 the way Goku and Vegeta had. That required dying several times at least. Goku plopped into the chair as he watched the news broadcast. It seemed the monster attacks were getting worse. It was odd, because some of the monsters looked almost human, while others were some of the most bizarre creatures he had ever seen. And to top it off, it seemed like there was a new bunch of fighters going after the monsters! At least, the guys running around with the swords looked like fighters…though Goku couldn’t figure out why they were all wearing medieval armor.
Goku wasn’t the only one captivated by the news. When Yugi had seen the news, he had automatically recognized some of the monsters from his favorite game. He didn’t understand what they were doing fighting for real, but he knew that he had to help in some way. He closed his eyes so that he could consult with the Pharaoh. They began to discuss their options, wondering what effect they were under now.
Across the room, Goku felt an enormous power surge…

Kaiba walked into the building across from Kaiba Corp, determined to find out who was behind this latest scheme. He strode up to the main desk, where a plump woman of about fifty was watching a dreary soap opera next to the security monitors she was supposed to be watching. He ignored the wolfman janitor when he tipped his hat at Kaiba. He had no time for the little programming. He needed answers and now.
“Who is responsible for this?” he demanded, slamming his fists into the counter top.
“Excuse me sir?” The woman asked, slightly panicked. She had never met any one quite this rude before. Even he just ignored her.
“I want to know who is running this little puppet show!” Kaiba answered. Now he was becoming angry. NPCs were always supposed to answer questions directly.
“Do you mean Mrs. Bulma?” the woman asked. She began to scan the room and monitors looking for a source of help. With all the fighters that stopped by, you figured there’d be one when you needed them!
“If she is the one in charge, then yes I mean Mrs. Bulma.” Kaiba growled out.
“Umm, hold on let me check…” The woman began to quickly scan through the various monitors, trying to find the woman who ran the place. Finally she caught a glimpse of her in the corner of one of the cameras. A quick look at the bottom corner of the screen, and she had her answer. “She is in medical bay 25. Two floors up and the third door on the right.”
Kaiba didn’t even bother responding. He turned and headed up the stairs, his long coat fluttering out behind him. He walked up the stairs in a measured step, a walk he had long perfected to intimidate his opponents. Kaiba made his way down the corridor, looking for the med bay the secretary had sent him to. Half way down the hall he passed a man who reminded him of the thugs the Big 5 kept sending his way. The only difference was the fact that this one seemed to be a bit on the short side, though the way his spiky black hair stood up from his head. The other man had a scowl on his face and was mumbling about uppity women when he passed. Kaiba ignored him, dismissing him as just another lackey. Though the comment about a gravity room did cause a minor stir of his curiosity. Finding the correct room Kaiba pressed the button and the doors slid back. He walked into the room ready to demand the answers he wanted. He found himself confronted with two teenage boys about of about eighteen, and a woman who looked to be in her late thirties or early forties. They were crouched over an examination table, and Kaiba could make out a head of brown hair facing him. He hoped he hadn’t wandered into an autopsy. He had seen enough of those to last him his life.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for the owner of this dump.” he announced. The three people looked up at him and stood back from the table. Kaiba was mildly surprised to see Tea lying on the table, apparently unconscious. He realized this mean the rest of the brat pack was here. He wondered where Yugi was. Most likely getting himself into trouble, just the way Tea had. If he had to rescue any one, Kaiba was going to be pissed.
“Can I help you?” the woman asked.
“Who are you?” Kaiba asked.
“I’m Bulma. The owner and CEO of this company. Who are you?” She replied scathingly. Bulma didn’t like the fact that there was some one out there you didn’t know who she was.
“Kaiba. Seto Kaiba. Now would mine telling me where this is and who is responsible, or am I going to have to beat it out of you?” Kaiba threatened. Trunks and Goten immediately leapt in front of her to protect her.
“Better watch that mouth around here. It might get you in trouble!” Trunks warned.
“Please you two punks are no match for me. I’ve dealt with tougher.” Kaiba called the bluff.
“You have no idea who you are dealing with do you?” Goten asked. There were few people in the building who didn’t recognize the fighters for who and what they were.
“Yeah a couple of punks standing between me and my answers. Now are you going to answer my question or not?” Kaiba demanded. Trunks and Goten looked at each other. They nodded to each other, and immediately powered up, letting their auras fill the room. Kaiba was hardly impressed. “Big deal, I’ve seen Yugi pull the same trick a hundred times.” he told them. This had a less then foreseen effect.
“You’ve met another Saiyan?” The woman asked.
“As I have no idea what it is you are talking about, I’m going to say no.” Kaiba answered. Meanwhile the two boys had gone back to their original state and were looking confused.
“But you say you’ve seen some one do this before?” The one with the black hair asked.
“He does it every time we duel. It’s hardly surprising any more.” Kaiba responded. “It’s a neat parlor trick, nothing more. I can still beat him.”
“You must be rather powerful then.” Bulma remarked. “What can I help you with?”
“I want to know where I am, and who is responsible for all this!” Kaiba repeated.
“Well, you are in the middle of the Capsule Corp building, in the middle of the District 145. As for who’s responsible for this, well my parents built the company, I run it now, and you are apparently a nut case who wandered in off the street, and is about to be thrown out by my husband!” Kaiba whirled around as he felt a heavy hand dropped to his shoulder. He found himself staring at the thug he had passed before. Bulma nodded to the man who was holding. “Thanks Vegeta dear. Now could you please get rid of him?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yugi ducked as the energy ball flashed past his head, disintegrating the shelf it hit. Goku was now hovering over the seat, another ball ready to be thrown. Yugi had ducked behind the table, hoping the piled dishes would provide him some cover, but doubting they would be of much use as a defense.
“Hey, wait, what I do?” He cried from behind his shelter.
“You lied to me and Pan!” Goku called back.
“I did no such thing!” Yugi replied.
“Then why are you powering up?” Goku demanded. He really didn’t like being lied to. It was just wrong.
“What do you mean powering up?” Yugi asked. He was now beyond confused. All he had been doing was talking to the Pharaoh. He did several times a day, and he never felt any different when he was done.
“Are you some sort of fighter?” Goku asked. He wasn’t sure that Yugi was a threat anymore, but he had learned not let his guard down so easily.
“Not really. I’m a duelist, but that’s with cards!” Yugi called out.
“What do you mean?”
“Promise not to blast me?”
“Only as long as you don’t attack me first.”
“You have a deal.” Yugi stood up and walked over to where Goku was still floating. He reached into the box on his belt and pulled out his deck of cards. He handed them over and Goku began to flip through the pile. He was fascinated by the colorful artwork, and while he didn’t follow most of the game text, he found several of the flavor texts to be amusing. He handed the deck back to Yugi, who put it back in the box.
“So then why did you power up when you saw the creatures on the news?” Goku asked.
“Why do you keep saying I powered up? I didn’t do anything!” Yugi answered.
“Really? I felt this enormous power a few minutes ago. Though now that you mention it, it’s gone now.” Goku answered. Yugi thought about it for a moment and decided to ask the Pharaoh.
‘Did you feel anything?’ he thought to his partner. ‘No, I didn’t.’ the Pharaoh replied.
“There it is again!” Goku cried. He whirled about, trying to pin point the direction the power was coming from. It seemed like it was coming from Yugi, but he could tell it wasn’t. Yugi paused for a moment. Pan had reacted almost the same way when he and Pharaoh had been talking before… Realizing what was going on, Yugi fell to floor and began to laugh. Goku looked down at him as if he had really lost it.
“Are you alright?” The pint sized Saiyan asked his guest.
“I just realized what was going on!” Yugi answered. “You and Pan were sensing my other half!”
“There are two of you?” Goku asked. He was almost as confused as Yugi had been when he had first arrived. Yugi managed to get back to his feet and pulled the Millennium Puzzle from under his jacket.
“This pendant is really an ancient artifact which houses the spirit of an ancient Pharaoh.” he explained.
“What’s a Pharaoh?”
“They were a series of ancient kings from a country known as Egypt.”
“So now this Pharaoh lives with you?”
“Well, in a way. He doesn’t have a body of his own, but we share a mind and our souls are linked.” Yugi answered. Goku seemed to think about this for a moment, and then a huge smile came over his face.
“Okay!” he cried out.
“What’s odd though is I thought I recognized some of those monsters on the news…” Yugi began.
“Did you really? They all seemed a bit new too me.” Goku replied.
“Well to me it looked like they were monsters from the game.”
“What does that mean?” Goku asked.
“This isn’t the first time it’s happened. The game is based on actual creatures that were controlled by the ancient Egyptians. The cards occasionally serve as a modern source for summoning them.” Yugi explained.
“So then does that mean you are a wizard?” Goku asked. He remembered the whole Bobidi bit. If there was anything capable of making the warrior nervous, it was magic.
“In a way I guess. I can’t normally summon them though, unless some one is getting up to something evil.” Yugi told him.
“Have you tried since you got here?” Goku asked. “Most magic works if you know what you are doing.”
“Actually I haven’t. Hold on let me try this.” Yugi began to search his deck for a specific card. Finally finding his copy of Kuriboh, he pulled the card out and held it over his head. “I summon Kuriboh!” Yugi called out. There was a bright flash, and the card vanished. Instead, the oversized fur ball was now floating in front of Yugi. Kuriboh smiled at him and flew over and landed on Yugi’s shoulder. It smiled at Goku, and began to babble incoherently. Goku watched all of this and began to laugh at the antics of the miniature creature.
“Well, it seems you can summon them for real. Very good! Now we have to go help those villages. We can pick up Pan on our way there.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atop the Lookout, Piccolo was becoming disturbed. He sensed a great evil lurking on the horizon, though it didn’t seem very powerful. It was however quite malevolent. The odd bit was that it seemed to be coming from the other realm, and there was no reason this plane should have to fear anything already dead.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yami-Bakura laughed as he walked through the middle of the battle. All around him the demons that guarded hell were being slaughtered his own minions. What ever realm he had landed in had awakened powers that had been dormant these long centuries. For the first time in several thousand years, his ka Diabound was gracing the real world. The massive monster was curled around his body. It reached down with one hand and deflected a flying arm, as the fiends Yami-Bakura had summoned slaughtered his foes. He had felt an overwhelming presence of dark energy, and he had been drawn to it like a moth to flames. He could use some strong allies before he tried to escape this hellish prison.
He stopped in front of a massive stone door. It had been splattered with blood, some of which was still dripping down the rough surface. The warnings were still legible though, and Bakura smiled as he read them. Do not release? Keep imprisoned for eternity? These seemed to be his kind of people.
