A death uncertain

Chapter Two

The sea air was crisp and clean, even coming in to the mid part of the morning. Tokyo bay was very busy, as cop cars were lined up everywhere along the docks where the fishing trawlers usually moored in.

Amon and Robin headed out to where they had been told where the body was found, at the end of one of the longer piers where no boats were tied up. They took note that the officers of the Tokyo police, and the marina police force did not accompany them out to the place, actually staying far away from the scene and them..

Amon chuckled as they walked the wooden planks of the pier.
“ They are so wary of witchcraft and things.” He said through his mirth. “ They just point it to us and step back.”
“ That is what always happens.” Agreed the youngest hunter, giggling along with her partner and husband..

On seeing the body, they knew why they had been called in to investigate this apparent murder. The body was of a man, roughly in his late twenties and dressed quite nicely in a very expensive tailored suit. He seemed young and very afluant in his mode of dress, but that is where the look of a normal dead person ended.

The thing about the body was that it was flat and almost not like a body. Not like being run over, but it seemed that the muscle tissue and organs were literally gone from inside the body, while the skin and bones were obviously unaffected. The body was dry and had no sea salt residue on it, not having been in the water, and the suit was not marked up in any way.

Amon squatted down and had a closer look at the corpse. The man’s eyes roved over the body, his mind taking note of anything he could see. Robin knelt down beside the hunter too, also joining in the visual investigation.
“ No marks, no blood.” he said in a low voice.
“ It looks like all of his insides, except for the bones have been... taken out or vaporized from his body.” Commented the young lass.
“ Right.” Nodded Amon. The man looked at the body for a moment, his mind hard at work. “ We just may have to let the scientists at SOLOMON have a look at him for us... I don’t know how this could happen to a body.” He sighed deeply, as he had quickly made up his mind. “ The only explanation I can come up with is exactly what the police have surmised... This was the work of a witch.”

Robin nodded and stood up, as her man’s decision was obvious to her. The girl turned, as she heard two sets of footsteps nearing them. She faced to her left, and saw who had ventured out on to the docks to them.

Karasuma and Haruto had arrived on scene, and was standing there, looking down at the dead man.
“ Does that man have no innards?” Bluntly asked Haruto. “ He looks positively flat to me!”
“ That is what we think.” Said Robin to the newly arrived duo.
“ Natural causes or witch related?” Miho asked, staring down at the body.

Amon snuffed, as he visually looked the body over for the tenth time since arriving there before saying something.
“ It is not any natural phenomenon I have ever seen, ore even heard of.” Amon said, not even looking over at the woman. “ This is definitely the work of a witch in my estimation.”

Amon stood up and finally turned to look at the three behind him. He seemed to be actually troubled by what had happened here.
“ Call in a SOLOMON retrieval unit.” He said stepping to stand right next to his wife. “ We have to let them take a close look at this one. Visually, it has gave us practically zilch in the way of clues.”

Miho nodded and pulled her communicator from her coat.
“ This one might confound the hell out of even SOLOMON.” She commented, hitting a button on her device.
“ After we see to it’s pick up, we all head in to the office.” Said Amon, taking a glance back at the body. “ We should get Michael to start a search of the records of any known witches or past records of witches that could do this, until SOLOMON gives us a report on this person.”
“ I’ll give him a verbal start on that...” Miho said, turning so she could use the communicator.

Amon held Robin’s hand as she stood there. Miho was still on the communicator while Haruto had busied himself looking at the person that was deceased. The young man seemed to be searching for anything he could see.
“ I don’t think we will get any clues from out friend here...” He said, standing up from squatting. “ Not much at all.”
“ Yes...I think we have established that.” Amon said to the young man, who was more concerned with looking at the body than listening to him.

Robin looked at the youth, and just stayed quiet beside her husband. This body seemed to be starting to lead somewhere, but to where. With no clues at their disposal, it was unclear of anything... yet something in her self was telling her just that.

Not very long later, the large truck of SOLOMON rolled up. Men in hazmat suits rushed out on to the docks, causing the police to scatter and fall back even more than what they were with the first arrival of the STN-J.

Amon did not fail to notice the cops scattering to get out of the way of the giant truck that had shown up.
“ I don’t think they will get use to what we do any time soon.” He said under his breath, giving a low level chuckle.
“ Maybe sometime, we can hope fr a little more cooperation from them?” Asked Robin, her optimism shining through.
“ We can hope, but to them, we are as strange as the things we investigate.” Pointed out the tall man.

Robin nodded, knowing that her man knew what he was talking about when it came to the relationship between the Tokyo Police force and the STN-J. It was not going to change any time soon.

The hunters stood and watched , as the hazmat people wrapped the body carefully in thick plastic. Then they placed the body in a long bubble like container and used a remote controlled dollie to begin the long trek back up the docks and to their unit.

Amon and the others followed the men, then watched them put the body into the truck. It did not take long for the men to do that, and they hopped in their truck without a single word spoken to them in the process.

As the heavily armored vehicle drove off with the murdered young man in it, Amon turned to his fellow hunters.
“ Let’s get back to the offices here.” He said, taking charge as usual. “ We just have to do a little digging until SOLOMON can get us the autopsy report to us... and let’s hope they are fast today.”

Miho and Haruto nodded, and then went to get their mode of transportation. Amon and Robin headed back to the car, parked just outside the crime scene tape at the marina’s entrance gate.
