Chapter Two
Greetings! Its been such a long time since I've posted anything on aff.net! But, this aside, I've decided to pick up this kind of writing
again and see how rusty I am! Its been years, so I'm sorry if this is hideous. Its been over two years since I did anything with this story,
Teacher Teacher! and after going back, reading it, and reading the reviews I got on it, I have to say that Sinful Muse, and lovelyl, you
both inspired me to pick this back up and finish it. I'm sorry its taken so long.
But this is for you two.
Disclaimer: I still, after all this time, DO NOT own Sailor Moon or anything to do with it other than this particular story line inspired
by these lovely characters.
Serena looked at her schedule again. "That can't be right! Where's the crusty old man!? I want the crusty old man!" She practically screamed.
The whole class, Mr. Shields included, looked at her like she grew a second head.
"Mr. Suzuki finally retired, if that is the "crusty old man" you are referring to." Mr. Shields responded to her outburst. His face
became flat once more. "Now, if you don't mind, you can serve that detention this afternoon. If you need to call your parents and make them
aware of this, then you can do so on the phone in my office after Homeroom is dismissed, or you can do so after my class this afternoon." He
went back to his desk and began to organize the items there.
Without thinking, Serena shouted again. "I can't believe I have to have you two times everyday!" She put her head down on her desk, letting
the disgust sink in.
"Miss. Tsukino," He voice became dangerously calm as the class nervously awaited what would happen next. "As horrifying as that prospect
is for me, as well, that is simply something we will both have to come to terms with. You can do so this afternoon, and that same time
tomorrow AT DETENTION!" The ending volume of his voice had the students, Serena included, leaning back in their chairs, as if trying to get away.
Serena was about to open her mouth again, but hand on her shoulder shocked her out of her anger. It was Amy. "Serena, I don't know what is
going on with you, but please... just stop!" Amy was horrified that Serena would talk back to a teacher in such a way. "But Amy! You don't
understand!" She shook her head. "Whatever it is, you can tell me later. Just shut up, Serena!" Amy's sharpness startled Serena in to complying.
She simply nodded her head.
"Now that Miss. Tsukino is done filling up my Monday and Tuesday afternoon, is there anyone who cares to join her?" Darien's eyes scanned
the class. No student moved, or spoke to answer him. "I will take that as a resounding "No."
After the daily activities of homeroom were completed and the bell rang, the students began to file out of the classroom. "Miss. Tsukino,
please remain." A small gasp could be heard among the remaining students still leaving the room.
She marched up to his desk, her fire renewed. After the other students left, he shut the door. "ARE YOU INSANE?!" He spun around and shouted
at her. "You must be to pull a stunt like that!"
She was temporarily stunned. "W-what? Wait, I'm not the one who started that! You didn't HAVE to give me TWO detentions! You could have
been nice! Then I wouldn't have freaked out so much!"
"What? So I'm responcible for YOUR attitude probelms?! And you really didn't leave me much of a choice!" He shouted back.
"Look, buddy," She came right up to him, poking him in the chest. "Your the one who started this by being mean to me in the first place! If
you haden't ruined my chances with Andrew, then this would have been totally different!"
He chuckled sardonicaly. "Your "chances?" WHAT chances?! I've known him for longer than YOU'VE probably been alive! You had NO chances!" He
had to admit, he felt a little bad as soon as that was out of his mouth. But it was too late now.
Her eyes grew wide, and quckly filled with tears. 'Oh god, here it comes.' He thought.
She tried to hold them back. 'Don't let this baka see you cry, Tsukino!' She squinted her eyes shut. "YOU ARE SUCH A JERK, DARIEN!!"
He calmed himself a little. "Look, don't cry, ok? I didn't mean that Andy doesn't like you at all. You're just not his type, ok?" He held
his hands out, as if to create some kind of force field between them. All of this was getting a little uncomfortable for him. He hated to see
people cry.
She sniffled, eyes still slammed shut. "What do you mean, 'not his type?' What, exactly, is his type?"
He dropped his hands and grinned a little. "He just has one type, and her name is Rita."
Her eyes flew open. "What?! He has a girlfriend?! He never said anything about her to me before!" She balled her hands into fists and stomped
her foot. Her anger had returned with a vengeance.
"Look, all that aside, this is school, and all of that other stuff is outside of school, ok? Do you get what I mean?" He explained. She
just stared, and shook her head.
"Ok, what I mean is that here, I'm Mr. Shields. There, I'm Darien. I HAD to give you a detention, because apparently, you didn't establish
lines of professionalism fast enough to stop that wagging trap of yours!" He was angry again as well. How dare she speak to a teacher like that?!
He just didn't get how someone could be so impertinent!
"Hey, creep," Shouted back. "You could have given me a second to recover from the shock of having to see YOUR smug face again!" She couldn't
help herself. 'Why did he have to be such a jerk? Why couldn't he just be as nice to talk to as he is to look at?' She was a little horrified
at the thought. He was becoming less and less attractive to her as he continued to insult her. 'Why do all the cute ones have to be jerks?"
"This conversation is finished." She was about to protest, but his voice was even and dangerous. It sent a similar chill down her spine to that
of which she felt with him yesterday. "You will inform your parents of your detentions today and tomorrow. You will report back here after the
last bell. Is that understood?" His dark voice still had her ensnared. She nodded. "Good. Dismissed." He walked away from her, and back to his
desk. He kept his back to her until he was sure she exited the room.
He sighed deeply. 'That could have gone better.' He thought. It was hard enough dealing with her breifly in the arcade yesterday. Now he would
have to deal with her everyday? Hopefully it would not be like this. If Andrew can put up with her, then surely he could too.
After exiting the classroom, Serena practally ran down the hallway. "I can't wait for this year to end!" She couldn't believe that man was a friend
of Andrew's! "BAKAAAAAA!" No man had gotten under her skin quite like he did.
As the hours of the school day passed, and History class came nearer, Serena cringed. She was sitting at the lunch table with Amy.
Eating lunch.
History was right after lunch.
Eating made her sleepy.
'If I fall asleep, that creep will nail me for sure and give me like 20 detentions!!!' She groaned at the thought and put her head down on the table.
"Serena, what's wrong? You're acting very strange today." Amy stared at her. "What was it you wanted to talk to me about? Does it have to do with
what's going on with you today?" She took a bite.
Head still down, Serena groaned again. "Ok, so I ran into that BAKA yesterday at the arcade when I was trying to seduce Andrew and-"
"Wait, what?!" Amy interrupted. "You were trying to... seduce Andrew?" Amy's voice declined to a whisper. "Ok, SO not the point, Amy!" Serena lifted her head and rolled her eyes.
"I'm sorry! I just didn't know you felt that way about him... to seduce... him and all" Amy was whispering again.
"ANYWAY!" Serena began again. "He scared me and made me klutz out and embarrass myself in front of Andrew! And to top it off, he was super rude
and mean to me then, so I think I had a right to be shocked to see him this morning!"
"Well, you certainly had a right to be surprised, but he's a TEACHER, Serena. You can't talk back like that! You don't want to get a reputation as
one of THOSE kind of students on top of already being thought of as lazy. Being lazy is one thing. Being a trouble maker is totally different!" Amy
reasoned.
"I'm not lazy..." Serena whined. Amy rolled her eyes this time, and used Serena's own words against her. "SO not the point!"
Serena smiled. "Ok, ok. This morning could have gone better. But he didn't have to give me TWO detentions on the first day!"
"On the contrary. You didn't leave him much of a choice." Amy took another bite.
"What?! That's exactly what he said, too!" Serena grumbled.
"Look at it from his perspective. He's a new teacher. This is his first day, and a student, YOU, challenged him directly. He had to be strict to
teach the other students that kind of behavior is unacceptable.
Amy took another bite, and noticed Serena hadn't even touched her food. "Serena, why aren't you eating?"
"History is next." She answered, expecting Amy to somehow understand her reasoning.
"Ok, I know you find History boring, but is it really so much so that you're losing your appetite?" Amy was in disbelief.
"What?! No! I'm hungry as hell! Eating just makes me tired!" She explained.
"And...?"
"And...? What?"
"And...? Why are you not eating?"
"Mr. Baka teaches that class! If I fall asleep he'll "be forced" to give me five THOUSAND detentions to make an example of me!" Serena threw
her arms into the air dramatically.
"Won't that leave you starving? Just eat a little and take the roll with you or something to eat later! Here, you can have mine too." Amy begged
her to eat.
"Ok, ok. There isn't much lunch time left anyway. I'll just eat a little now and the rolls later." She snached up said rolls.
Soon thereafter, the bell did ring. Serena and Amy parted ways and off to History Serena went. The hall way seemed ominously long as her stomach began
to growl from the tease of a lunch she fed it. 'Quiet, you!' She willed it.
When she arrived at the classroom door, few students were already there. She took a seat in the far back. Hopefully he wouldn't notice her there.
'Yeah right! He probably already has a special assignment just for me to RUIN MY LIFE MORE!' She screwed up her face in anger, trying to contain herself.
After calming down, she watched as more students filled in, until there were few seats left. "Come on in, crusty old man!" She willed out loud. "Let
this morning just have been a sick joke!"
Sure enough, however, no crusty old man did enter. Just HIM.
"Baka..." She muttered. His eyes instantly flew to hers. That dangerous look still lingered in his eyes. Something told Serena he had been dreading this
hour as much as she had. She quickly shut her mouth. The last thing she wanted to do was call her mother again, telling her about more detentions. She
also had a feeling she was going to be grounded as soon as she got home.
She had kept quiet through half of the class. Her stomach was doing back flips for food, and she needed to feed it soon. 'But I can't just start
digging around for one of those rolls right now! He's watching me like a hawk!'
Her stomach growled loudly in protest. Serena had been listening to Mr. Shields' lecture up until this point.
'He's actually not that bad at this.' She thought.
If her stomach hadn't been prepared to go on strike, she may have absorbed something from said lecture.
Suddenly, his voice invaded her thoughts about food. "And with that, class, your assignment is on page seventeen. Its fairly self explanatory.
Review the chapter. Write a summary about it. Try not to have too much fun." The class collectively, with the exception of Serena, chuckled and he grinned.
The classroom fell quiet and, as if on cue, her stomach growled once again... loudly. 'Oh god no. Please stop...' She willed it. She didn't want anymore
attention. She watched a few students eyes look around, trying to figure out where the sound came from. There were a few chuckles to be heard. Darien
sat at his desk looking at some papers. His eyes were not part of the group grazing the room.
Serena sighed a little. Maybe if she started her homework, it would stop.
She could feel her stomach acid preparing its next protest chant. "FEED ME!" She thought of the plant from 'Little Shop of Horrors' and had to fight a
giggle.
Her stomach went off again, eliciting a few more pairs of eyes this time and a few "What the heck IS that?" comments. she tried to hide in her book.
Maybe if she slowly went after it in her bag...
Once more... a growl. She was running out of time. It was only a matter of a few more growls until the class figured out who it was. She was
already notorious for her appetite. The last thing she needed was for the class to start making a fuss. Even if THEY did it, Mr. BAKA would say
it was her fault for having a disruptive stomach. She could practically hear him.
She looked at her open book for cover as she crept a hand down the side of her desk to her bag.
Again it growled. Darien looked up from his papers to the class in front of him that was giggling. "The last time I checked, I issued an assignment. If
everyone is suddenly done, I will be glad to collect it now." During his speech, her stomach growled again, very loudly. A few students couldn't
help but giggle.
"Ok what is that?!" Darien couldn't take it anymore. "Wasn't lunch right before this?" The students nodded, but none spoke. The room was silent
when Serena's stomach decided to answer him with another growl. His eyes drifted to her. She was staring at her text book like she was trying to
light it on fire.
"Serena Tsukino..." His tone was flat. "Why am I not surprised? Even your stomach has a knack for disrupting my class." She shrank in her chair.
'Just leave me alone!' She willed. "I'm sorry. I'm not meaning to. Its not like I can control it..." Her voice sounded smaller than she had intended.
"Please come to my office." She couldn't tell by his tone if he was angry, but she assumed so. The class 'oo'ed as she collected her things and
started her walk of shame to his office. He entered behind her, slammed the door, and drew the shades. She flinched and abruptly spun around.
He looked just as startled by the slam as she did. He made a face. "Sorry." He mouthed. "Ok, so what's going on? Do you not have enough money
for lunch or something?"
She blushed a little. "What?! No! That's not it!"
"Well then why? I would hate to think that you sit around trying to think of creative new ways to disrupt my class. Its the first damned day, for
crying out loud!" He sat at the desk in his office.
"Well if you MUST know, I didn't eat lunch so I wouldn't fall asleep in your class. Believe it or not, I did it to KEEP from disrupting your class.
I didn't want to get into any more trouble today!" She pouted and her stomach chimed in with another growl. "I have food in my bag I was going to eat
after class, but I guess my stomach just couldn't wait that long."
He sat for a minute, absorbing her excuse. "Fair enough. I get tired after lunch too." They were both a little surprised that he added that tidbit
about himself. He suddenly grew uncomfortable. "Well? Eat!" He barked.
She scrambled through her bag and pulled out two squished rolls. She ate them both quickly and sighed. "Oh that's so much better!"
He smiled a little. 'She's not really that bad, I guess.'
"Well, so does this mean all is forgiven?!" She made the most hopeful, wishful face she possibly could. Maybe she could appeal to his softer side?
Maybe he would forgive the detentions.
He chuckled at her. "No dice." The bell rang. "I'll see you after school." He stood up and headed for his office door. He looked back her over his
shoulder. "Oh and try to look sad." She turned around to follow him out, already looking like he'd gone on a puppy kicking rampage.
"God, klutzo..." He tried not to laugh as he opened the door.
"Why do you have to be so mean!" She practically shouted as she exited the office. The few remaining students looked up at them both and gasped.
'Well, they must think I'm an absolute jerk...' He made his face stern. "I'm sorry, Miss. Tsukino, but disruptions of any kind will not be
tolerated, intentional or not. Eat lunch at the appropriate time." She and the other students left.
He heard a few students mutter. "God... she was just hungry. Its just Serena."
'So this was normal for her?' He thought. 'And so what if they think I'm mean?' His former instructor's words echoed in his head.
'A feared instructor is a heard, and respected instructor.' He sat at his desk in his classroom and readied himself for the next class.
