Interviews are tricky

Hello, I'm back! Updating before the holidays.

By the time morning came again, Guy had convinced Rion to not study any more. Which meant that he was freaking out when he woke up. He was snuggled in his twin’s arm until he looked at the clock and realized that he only had two hours until the interview. The Blondie pulled away, but the arms around him tightened and pulled him back. “Nooo…. Guy, I have to go!”

The dark haired twin smiled and nibbled his brother’s ear. “Aww, but there’s so many things we could do today…” That earned him a sharp smack on the leg and a pouty look. Knowing when to quit, Guy let go and rolled over onto his back.

Of course the twins had never done anything past intimate touches and kissing. Neither believed that they were ready to move to the next step yet. However they enjoyed teasing each other (more often it was Guy doing the teasing) and seeing how riled up one could get his counterpart. Rion knew that walking away from his twin naked would probably be tantalizing enough to make up for the ear nibbling.

And it was. When the bathroom door shut and audibly locked, Guy pouted himself and turned over on his side. He glared at the clock as if it was it’s fault for the time and pulled the comforters over his head so he could get some more sleep in.

Rion however made sure that he was clean, and used some special shampoos so that he would smell nice. He dried, combed, and styled his hair perfectly. This time instead of a braid, he did his hair exactly like the picture of his father that he had sitting on the dresser. As much as he hated it, it wouldn’t be a harmful idea to use that connection today. After he applied some cream and extremely light makeup, the young man decided to braid one long lock of hair. Just a little something of his own for uniqueness.

He ate breakfast and burst out of the house without a moment to spare. Daryl had a car sitting in the community garage, not a long walk from the house. Rion had permission to use it today, so he took full advantage. There was something about sitting behind the wheel of the luxury hovercraft that made him feel… powerful. The young man laughed lightly and drove off, heading towards the new government building.

It was a palace of marble and gold. It was styled after some ancient architecture, looking completely contrasted to anything else in the city. Rion loved it and how much it stuck out, the marble almost glowing in the lights of the city around it. He parked his car and let a furniture take it away while he entered the huge building.

There was a marble counter where Rion could check in. Then he was directed to take an elevator to the very top floor. Once he was there, he checked in with another secretary and waited. He tapped his feet nervously on the tile, taking deep breaths to calm down. Right behind those large wooden doors was Raoul Am, leader of this world. And if he did well, it was his future boss.

Finally the door opened and a boy about the same age as he was came out, looking sullen. Rion almost asked who kicked his puppy, but decided sarcasm wouldn’t be the best option. The secretary was trying to get his attention anyways, gesturing for him to enter the room. Well, this was it!

He took one last deep breath and went inside. The doors shut behind him and he waited until he heard Raoul’s deep voice. “You may sit in the chair.” The intimidating Blondie held his hand out across the desk, gesturing at an armchair. To the young man, it looked like an interrogation would be taking place. Stop being so nervous!

So Rion sat and didn’t speak. After a moment of uncomfortable silence while Raoul perused through his file, finally the man spoke. “It says here that you were raised by a furniture. Care to explain?” He didn’t even spare a second glance at his victim.

This was a sore subject. He didn’t like to talk about the… misfortune that had fallen upon their family, but he supposed the question couldn’t be avoided. “My parents died.” He replied simply.

That caused Raoul to look up. He frowned when he saw the shock of blonde hair… certainly that trait wasn’t genetically possible! Unless…. “Your parents.” He could at least pretend to be professional, even though his mind was in turmoil at the thought that this could he HIS child. “What was their station before the equality act was passed?”

The young Blondie thought that his parents might be brought up. So he weaved his carefully spun lie. “They were both mongrels, and didn’t live to see the equality act passed.”

“Shame.” Raoul wanted to dig deeper. Yes…. The tone of his voice, the slight disdain for everything.. the ability to lie.. all Iason’s gifts. “How did they die?”

Rion certainly wasn’t prepared for this. “Uh.. well…. In the attack on Jupiter. They were passing by when the building exploded and it killed them.”

“So you were raised by a furniture?”

“Yes, sir.”

“If both your parents were mongrels, how could you have afforded to have a furniture?”

Damn, he was caught. “Uh.. well.. he was a family friend.”

“Family friend?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Daryl…” He said the furniture’s name, though it wasn’t in the file. “Familiar name for a furniture. I had a friend with a furniture by that name.” Raoul made Rion squirm in his chair uncomfortably. He definitely wasn’t expecting this at all. “Iason Mink… might the name ring a bell?”

Rion looked down at the floor, unable to meet the other’s gaze as he lied. “N-no, sir.”

“It says here that your surname is classified. That’s understandable for most adults, but you’re a child yet, really. What’s your surname?”

“Sir, I don’t think that’s necessary for-“

“I’ll tell you what’s necessary and what’s not. What is your surname?”

“Sir, please, I-“

“One more evasive answer and I’ll make sure you won’t be able to get a job in this city.”

“FINE. Mink, Iason was my father.” Rion stood and slammed his hands on the desk, but then sat down and clapped them over his mouth when he realized what he’d done. “F-forgive me, sir…”

Raoul just sat back in his chair and smiled. “I wouldn’t expect any less from the son of the head of syndicate. Rion Mink. I’ve been following you and your brother. Never took pictures, which is a pity because I would have preferred to know it was you. But we’ve been following you somewhat. From what I’ve seen, I’m impressed… though we could do without your brother. I hope he doesn’t have much influence on you?”

The young man was amazed by what he heard. Wait… what? Just because he was Iason’s son, he got the job immediately? What was this? Just exactly who was his father?? “N-no sir, he doesn’t.”

“Wonderful. I think this interview is finished, you’re hired. I expect you to have some presentable robes for tomorrow when you come. Seven sharp.”

“Oh, am I to skip school for the day?” Rion was ecstatic. This was too good to be true.

“Yes. In fact, depending on how you perform tomorrow, you may never need to finish. You’ll have a fine career here.” And thus the interview ended.

.....................................................................

Rion got home, absolutely ecstatic. Guy was home as well, typing something on his computer. Something that he clicked out of the moment his brother got near, but of course the Blondie twin didn’t notice. “I got the job!” He said happily.

Guy turned and stood, hugging Rion excitedly. “I’m so happy for you! See, I told you that you wouldn’t need all that studying crap.”

Rion just laughed and held up the bag of clothes he’d bought. “I got some new robes. To celebrate, of course. Also, tomorrow I have to look my best.” He grinned wider. “I start tomorrow! On the day of the peace negotiations with the border planets, I get to sit in at the meeting!”

“Yawn. How boring is that going to be? Wanna take my portable gamer?” Guy was just teasing, though. He knew how excited Rion was, and he didn’t want to take that excitement away.

The Blondie just laughed and playfully punched his twin’s arm. They both grasped hands and headed for the dining room to find Daryl, wanting to tell the furniture the news as well. Guy had news of his own, but of course he wouldn’t tell anybody just yet. Probably wouldn’t tell the furniture or Kaeri ever!

Later, after dinner, the three boys met in Jemi’s room again. Guy revealed what he had to say after thy cheered Rion’s new future on. “Tonight. It’s driving by at about nine, if we leave now we can make it. I say we take them to my mom’s old place in Ceres, I hear that nobody wants to live there now so it should be empty.” Jemi grinned, all ready to go along with the plan. And though Rion was a bit reserved, he didn’t want to leave his brother in it all alone. He reluctantly agreed to help as well. What else was family for?

Please review. I noticed not a lot of them compared to how many hits I got.. and I don't know if you want me to keep going with the story or not! You'll have to tell me or I won't know whether to continue this or go do homework. Also, the more reviews, the faster the chapters come out because I feel there's a slight demand for them. I hope everyone has a Blessed Yule... and other holidays too. *hearts*
