Chapter 2
A Meeting To Remember
Raven walked around his room in disbelief. How could his father do this to him? He couldn\'t kill another man, not even if the man was going to kill him. His mother always said he took after her, soft and gentle to everyone around her. In ways he loved his mother for that, but something like this could get in the way of that. Plus he knew his father would never allow him to be anything else, he was a swordsman so his son should be a swordsman, that was how it was always said.
Sitting down at his desk, Raven tried to think of a way to get out of the mess. Telling his father would never work, his father rarely reasoned with people. Getting up, he walked out of his room and down the hall to his professors room. Knocking once, he stepped into the room. "Professor, may i speak with you?" Raven asked walking up to the desk.
The old man put his book down and smiled at Raven. "Of course Raven, my dear boy, what is it? Something looks like its troubling you" the Professor said looking at Raven. "My father said next week, i begin my swordsman training" Raven said still in disbelief. "Oh dear, that is a problem, everyone here knows your too gentle for such a task" the Professor said shacking his head.
"So what should i do, father said a man is coming tomorrow to get to know me" Raven said worried. "Raven, you are gentle and kind, not the warrior type, maybe this man will see that and convince your father" the Professor said with hope. "Now, go to bed, its late, my lad" the Professor said with a smile. "Yes, sir" Raven said and headed back to his room.
Even though he knew the Professor was right, it still he felt no ease about the whole thing. No, he wasn\'t going through with it. Even though it seemed so childish, he would run away and find somewhere else to live and do what he wanted to do. It would better than trying to reason with his father, who might behead him because he didn\'t want to be a swordsman.
Grabbing only his journal, he walked out to his balcony. Bracing himself, he jumped down into the garden below. Landing rather hard, he laid there for a minute, then stood up. Sneaking around to the gardens water source, he slipped into the drain hole, squeezing through the metal bars. Staying crouched, he walked through the drain, hoping for an exit soon.
After what seemed like hours, he saw a light at the end of the drain. Almost running to it, he carefully looked out to see if anyone was around. Seeing no one, he jumped into the pool of water. Quickly surfacing, he climbed out of the pool and sat at the edge catching his breathe. Who knew that water would be so cold. Getting to his feet Raven looked around to see a sign pointing to out of town.
Following the signs, he headed out of town. After the last sign, Raven looked back at the town. Too bad he never got to see it in the daylight. Turning he followed the road to the next town. After walking for a few hours, Raven felt the need for sleep was too great to resist at the moment. Sitting down under an elm tree, he looked up at the leaves, letting sleep finally take him.
It didn\'t seem very long when Raven heard rustling in the trees behind him. Turning, he saw nothing. No movement at all, which kind of freaked him out, because he knew something was there. Turning back to the road, he stood up. Suddenly a hand grabbed him. Spinning around, Raven came face to face with a young woman. Raven jumped back and stared at her.
"I\'m sorry, i didn\'t mean to frighten you" she said in a gentle voice. "You...you didn\'t" Raven said still baffled that someone was there and he didn\'t see them. "Can i help you with something?" Raven asked stepping back. For some reason the hair on the back of his neck stood up. She smiled, "Yes, I\'m afraid you can" she said and looked down at the ground. "What would that be?" Raven asked. Looking back up, her face had become demented, two large fangs emitted from her mouth. "You can give all your blood" she yelled in a strange voice, that sounded like it was echoing.
Jumping forward at him, she swung her nails at him. Jumping backwards, raven grabbed a stick and swung it at her. It her across the face, but didn\'t stop her. "Come here boy" she yelled grabbing his arm. Raven slapped the stick across her face once again, then stabbed it into her neck. She let out a scream and let go of him. Raven turned and ran down the road, praying someone might be there to help him.
Not watching where he was going, Raven tripped over a large branch in the road. Picking himself up slowly, Raven looked around for the crazed vampire woman. Not seeing her, he stood up fully. "Gotcha" a voice screamed, and the woman jumped on his back, knocking him to the ground. Her teeth were merely inches away from his neck, when suddenly she froze.
Raven looked up, to see a young man standing there. Dressed in all black, and a black cape, he stood about 6 foot. She hissed and lunged at the man. Who merely smirked at her and a sword sliced through her. She let out a scream and vanished to ashes. Raven slowly got up, staring at the place where her body had been. "She was crazed, she became a level E vampire" the man said, the sword was no where in sight. "Is....is that why she was....so creepy?" Raven asked not really sure of what to ask.
"Yes, blood lust over took her human side, she was all animal" he said not having any pity in his voice. "Its awfully late, what is a young man like yourself doing out here?" the man asked looking at Raven. Raven looked away from him. "Getting away from my father" Raven answered.
