Chapter 2 – Gossip
{Author’s Note: This chapter is dedicated to Airi, who left a wonderful review just before I came to post this! If you want to know what’s going on with me and my writing, check my blog! It’s linked in my profile. I know this chapter is short. Sorry, folks. Have faith, though: Chapter 3 is the first sex scene! ^^ Further notes at the end. Enjoy, and please provide feedback! RATE and/or REVIEW, please!
Also: Jarty, there’s a message for you on my aforementioned blog. Check date 8/3/08.}
The textbook was yanked out of his hands and a warm body came plopping down into his lap. Suzaku looked up to see the golden locks and infectious grin of Milly Ashford, the Student Council President and all-around goofball. Suzaku couldn’t help smiling at her unorthodox method of getting his attention. “Something wrong with a tap on the shoulder, Madame President?” he asked as she folded her arms across her chest.
“So, who’s the lucky girl?” Milly asked without preamble.
“…Za?”
“You’ve been glowing like a lightning bug all morning,” Milly elaborated in a teasing voice. “And since I know there haven’t been any amazing triumphs at work, that means you’ve got a lady in your life! Now come clean, Suzaku, who is it? I haven’t seen the glow on anyone else, so I bet it’s not someone here at school.”
At the mention of no triumphs at work, Narita in general and Shirley’s father in particular came rushing back into Suzaku’s mind, drawing a scowl to his face.
“Hey, c’mon. With all this sadness I need some good news for a change!” Milly said, laying her hands on Suzaku’s shoulders.
Suzaku sighed and closed his eyes for a moment. It was clear there would be no dissuading her. He brought up a hand and laid it in the small of Milly's back, pressing gently. “Alright, I’ll tell you. Off, please.” Milly hopped to her feet and perched herself on the corner of the table in the Student Council room, which was currently empty save for the two of them and Arthur, fast asleep on his play-thingie in the corner.
At the thought of his encounter with Euphemia last night, Suzaku couldn’t help grinning again, though. “You’re not going to believe me,” he told Milly with a sly expression. “And if you repeat this to anyone, I will kill you.”
Milly feigned horror. “Please don’t shoot me, Mr. Ace Pilot!” The two shared a laugh that was desperately needed on both sides. When it faded, Milly looked at Suzaku a little more seriously. “I promise I won’t tell anyone. I just like knowing things.”
Suzaku nodded. “Very well. It’s Princess Euphemia.”
Milly laughed again. “The Sub-Viceroy? You’re right, I don’t believe you one bit. Who is it really?”
“Euphemia,” Suzaku answered matter-of-factly, looking Milly straight in the eye.
Her eyes widened in shock, and she leaned forward with a hungry expression. “You’re kidding. How? Why? What happened?”
Suzaku couldn’t help a chuckle at her eagerness. “Easy… I’ll explain…” And so he told her about how they had met the day after his trial, and their handful of other encounters since then. Then about how she had just showed up at his door yesterday afternoon. He didn’t go into details, but Milly sat and listened with rapt attention.
When Suzaku finished his tale, Milly sat and thought for a few seconds before her mouth curled into a slightly lecherous smile. “So… what happened after you kissed…?”
Suzaku blushed and shook his head. “Nothing. We just talked for an hour or two, and then she had to get back to the palace.”
They had curled up fully clothed on his bunk and talked of recent events, of the corruption and violence and evil in the world, and of how it could be healed. Suzaku had discovered that Euphie shared his fervent desire to make the world a better place, and to do it from within the system. They both wanted to save Britannia, make it into a gentler and more just place. But Euphie, like Suzaku, abhorred the methods employed by Zero and other rebels. They achieved their goals through dishonorable, contemptible means.
Those ninety minutes of conversation had brought Suzaku and Euphie closer together, had bonded them more firmly than any amount of lovemaking could have ever done. They had found a spiritual kinship, their minds and souls able to connect seamlessly.
Sadly, the world did not stand still outside, even if it seemed to do so within the small military quarters. Euphemia’s phone had chimed softly from within her jacket pocket, drawing a quiet moan of protest from its owner. “I have to get back,” she told Suzaku, who made a little protesting noise of his own. Euphie smiled and kissed his cheek tenderly. “There’ll be other times, my knight,” she whispered. “Many other times.”
Suzaku had slipped out of the bunk and helped his lady to her feet, then deftly used the simple gesture of holding her uniform jacket open to hug her from behind. Euphemia giggled and squirmed around in Suzaku’s arms to face him. The two shared a long kiss, less intense than their first but somehow all the more passionate for its gentleness. Far too soon, though, she had to disengage herself and leave, once more slipping into the role of another anonymous second leftenant.
A finger poking at his temple brought Suzaku out of his reverie. Milly was looking down at him with a slightly envious expression. “Lucky,” she told him. “I wish I could find somebody special... fall in love...”
“What about Rivalz?” Suzaku asked with a soft smile. “He’s got a soft spot for you a mile wide.”
Milly blinked hard, looking down at Suzaku with a slightly parted mouth. “Are you serious?”
Suzaku couldn’t help chuckling. “It’s written all over him every time he looks at you. You seriously hadn’t noticed?”
She just shook her head. “No, I hadn’t. But now that you mention it... I see what you mean...” Milly's expression became very thoughtful, then crafty. “Thanks, Suzaku. In exchange for that tidbit, your secret is extra-special-safe with me!”
Suzaku looked up at Milly with a serious expression on his face. “Milly, you can’t ever tell anyone about me and Euphemia for any reason at all. I’m very serious. If it gets out, it would damage her public image enormously. And Euphie... she’s very dear to me. I don’t want her hurt. Okay?”
A matching expression of seriousness covered Milly's face, quite the rare event. “I see what you mean,” she said quietly as the import of Suzaku’s words fully penetrated. “I won’t tell anyone. I swear on my family’s honor.”
Suzaku nodded, then smiled gratefully. “Thank you, Milly. But I am glad I told you. It’s nice to talk to someone else about it. I would tell Lelouch, but he seems to have a sore spot when it comes to the Royals.”
Milly nodded thoughtfully. “Hey, yeah. Any reason why?”
Suzaku just shook his head. “None. Well, everyone knows he’s no big fan of the government. Perhaps that’s why.”
Milly shrugged and tossed her golden hair. “Who knows what goes on in Lulu’s mind? Anyway, I’ve got to get to class! See ya!”
Suzaku couldn’t help smiling to himself once more as he picked up the textbook and found where he’d left off. Milly was right. He had a lady in his life.
{More Author’s Note: I tried various ideas to make this chapter a little longer, but they all felt like forced padding on a college paper, so I dropped them all. We’re left with just this little conversation between Milly and Suzaku. I apologize to anyone who’s disappointed. Next chapter is a LOT longer and a lot juicier, I promise!
Milly Ashford is another CG character who I absolutely adore. This conversation initially sprang from my desire to include her in the saga in some way. While in the shower, I put the two of them in a room together with the story’s status quo, and to my surprise a rather entertaining little conversation ensued. I duly recorded the conversation, which you see here.
I also saw the chance to do a flashback, something I’ve wanted to try my hand at for a long time. It’s not just there as artistic fap, though; I wouldn’t have included it if I didn’t believe it contributed to the story. Specifically, the question I imagine many readers may have had at the end of Chapter 1: What happened next? Did they have sex? No, not yet. That’s coming next week. I hope I’ll be able to find a good balance between romance and sexiness as I work on Chapter 3. For this week, I hope the flashback came out okay and didn’t confuse anybody. I know I say this a lot, but feedback is always appreciated.
When I first posted this chapter, I was under the impression that it was spelled "Millie" rather than "Milly." This has since been corrected. Not sure how I screwed that up, but there you are..
