00. Prologue

00. Prologue

I started my travels a little later then most. Of course I never wanted to be a trainer or a master like most of the others around town. I was sixteen when I began, two years older then most others. But then again, I was never in it to take on the Elite Four or the Champion, though I did end up doing just that. No I was a breeder, I was one of the best in the Sinnoh region. I wanted to be a master but that would have me travel overseas and I could never do that because the love of my life was in Eterna City. My best friend was also there. Now to think of them only brings pain, pain I have tried to so long to erase. So I started training to be a breeder when I was fourteen when most of the other children left to start their training to be a Pokemon Battle Master. I wanted no war, I wanted no harm to come to any Pokemon and hated battling. I had no Pokemon of my own but I helped those that were within my city, most of the elderly had traveled back to their home town to settle down and live out their lives, whether their dream of being a Champion or Master became a reality or whether it died in the passing of time.

So I continued to stay there with my lover. I also had my cousin Julia, she was an herbalist, one of the best. She was so sweet and she was family, my own family. My mother and father had died when I was too young to remember. That was when Julia’s family came down to Eterna City and fell in love with it and me and took me in. I found that out years later.

But then it happened, the reason I left. A collector came to Eterna City, asking questions about rare Pokemon. Had I known then what I knew now, I would have killed the bastard where he stood, but I didn’t know, so I let him stay with me. That was when everything went so wrong.

Two years later I had battle through every gym, had faced down the Elite Four and the Champion, with my cousin and two friends I had made along the way at my side. I choose not to accept the Champion title and merely walked away. That was when the war broke out. It had been whispered for years that there were special people that were beginning to share a special bond with one Pokemon. The Pokemon that were connected to were more intelligent then the rest. They began to call these Pokemon, Companions and their human’s the Linked. Turns out that the collector that I had meet two years prior was a Linked. He had found a way to force his Pokemon to evolve, causing a corruption, a stain upon them. And him being Linked shared that corruption. He showed others, others that shared his view. They wanted bloodshed and death. They declared war on all trainers, on any that did not share their view. They became the first of the Obsidian Empire. They were the strongest, they were linked with powerful and rare Pokemon. They gathered others that they considered their Knights. And others that would follow the Knights, the foot soldiers. Shortly before the war broke out, trading routes outside of Sinnoh was cut off by different Pokemon, refusing to allow boats and trainers that tried to swim or fly across the water to pass. It was as if they knew, knew what was going to happen.

The Pokemon League was the first target of the Obsidian Empire and only when it lay in ruins, a burning mess of twisted metal and decaying corpses of all those potential trainers. Those trainers that battled until there was only one that was privileged to take on the Elite Four and the current Champion. Yes they all died, slain by the Obsidian Knights that they tried to fight. They died at the hands of the foot soldiers, at the hands of the Obsidian Royals as they would soon be considered. It was rumored that the Elite Four and the Champion escaped. After that the Obsidian Empire turned towards the cities and towns, one by one, they took over. It was said that the current Gym Leaders escaped as the Elite Four and Champions and that they had created an order with the old Champion, a world famous Champion.

The Ivory Order was whispered to be watching and Sinnoh held its collective breath, waiting for the Ivory Order to stand and fight against the Obsidian Empire. They never came. My group disbanded, going out separate ways for our own reasons. The twins that were with us left to see if their mother and father were still alive. My cousin Julia left to see if her parents were still alive. Myself, I escaped the war. I hid as I tried to figure out where in Sinnoh the Obsidian Empire was operating from. I never heard from the twins or Julia again.

It was bad in the beginning as each night the sky was lit ablaze with fires of the Obsidian Empire as they moved through towns in rotations, again and again, trying to find traitors, any that would rise against the Obsidian Empire or anyone that became Linked. It was always worse on the nights that they found someone they felt as an enemy as the sky filled with black ominous clouds. Those nights the air smelled of burning flesh and cooking meat as the night echoed the agonizing screams of the tortured and dying. If the Ivory Order actually existed and if the Elite Four, the Champion, previous Champion and gym leaders had survived, they were cowards. They were letting Sinnoh be raped by this Obsidian Empire, they stood by while their fellow trainers died, while the wild Pokemon were captured and corrupted to become cannon fodder. For the longest time I felt that they were all bastards.

Any that showed signs of becoming Linked were immediately taken by the Obsidian Empire, many never seen again and if they were, they were no longer the person they had once been. How ever the Obsidian Empire forced evolution onto the Linked’s Compainions, it corrupted the Pokemon as well as the Linked’s mind. It made them different, it twisted them into death and destruction. Yes, the world had gone to hell in a very short time and had been there almost constantly. Many had merely given up, many had accepted the change and lived as they could, making the best of a horrible situation. But there were still those that fought, still those that refused to give up. I watched many of them die as I hid myself, trying to find the Obsidian Emperor and end it all. That bastard that I have wanted his blood for the longest time. I figured the Ivory Order was a false hope, a fool’s dream to end the corruption that most were to weak or weak-willed to try to end. But I was different. I had lost everything and so I had nothing to loose. I would take out the Obsidian Emperor, even if it cost me my life.
