Chapter 2: A New Destiny
The two of them laid there for what seemed like ages, holding each other in their arms. Michael studied the delicate features of Alicia’s face as she slept, with a content smile on her soft lips, Wile musing over what she told him before she drifted off to sleep.
A pokegirl. He still couldn’t believe it. He had just made love to a pokegirl. He looked at the light blue hue of her skin, gently placing his fingers to her forehead he felt the coolness of her body that helped to identify her as an Ice Maiden, and Ice type pokegirl. She’s so beautiful, he thought, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. I must be the luckiest guy in the world, he mused as he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
A slight movement next to him waked him, turning over, he was surprised to see that Alicia was not there. Scanning the room, he spotted her sitting at his nearby desk examining herself in a mirror that she must have found in the bathroom. Getting up slowly, as to not startle her, he walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“Finally awake are we?” she asked, a slight hint of amusement in her voice.
Giving her another peck on the cheek he asked, “What are you looking at?”
“Nothing.” She answered, placing the mirror down onto the desk. She nuzzled up against his embrace. “I was just remembering how it was...with him...” She looked down, pain clearly shown in her blue eyes, as she blinked away the tears that formed.
“It will be alright.” he reassured her with a hug. “I’ll look for his body later and give him a proper burial.”
“Thank you.” She turned around to face him, looking deep into his eyes. Just then there was a slight grumbling sound, Alicia looked down embarrassed.
“Hungry?” Michael asked, she nodded. “When was the last time you had something to eat?” He asked.
“A day or two ago,” she replied, feeling the pangs of hunger. “I can’t really remember.”
“That long?” He remembered hearing that sometimes Tamers and their harem could go days without food between towns. Kissing her, he added. “I’ll go get us something to eat.” Gathering some clothes together, he slipped them and taking a last look at Alicia, left the room.
He’s really nice. Alicia thought to herself as she got up and began rummaging through Michael’s dresser looking for some clothes.
When Alicia entered the small kitchen a few minutes later, she was greeted by the smell of frying bacon and eggs. Michael stood in front of the stove, tending to the eggs. He turned around from his work and was startled to find Alicia standing there. She was clad in a pair of his sweat pants and a t-shirt that was a little too small, her nipples clearly showing through the fabric.
“I borrowed some of your clothes, I hope that it’s ok with you.” she said, giving him a quizzical look.
Blinking his eyes, he shook his head, bringing him back to reality. “It’s ok, you look good in them.” To this Alicia laughed.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what kind of food you like,” He told her, gesturing to the over-laden table. Turning back to the stove, he added, “So I gathered everything we had.”
Looking at the table that occupied much of the kitchen she was surprised to find it piled with food, from ripe fruits, cheeses, cut vegetables, pitchers of water, milk and juice to a fresh loaf of bread.
Blushing, Alicia sat down at the table. “You really didn’t have to go to so much trouble...”
“It wasn’t any trouble,” he replied, piling the eggs and bacon onto some plates and placing them onto the table. He took a seat opposite her, handing her an empty plate.
“Thank you.” Alicia said, as she took the offered plate.
“Stop thanking me like that,” he told her, a hint of embarrassment in his voice. “It’s nothing, really.”
With that said, they began to fill their plates. Just as they were about to start their meal, the door to the kitchen burst open, and in entered a large man and woman. The man was wearing typical country clothing: large overalls, a plaid shirt and a large brimmed hat. The woman was wearing a plain flowered dress. The man’s face was red with anger, he was obviously mad at something. He was glaring at Michael.
“Boy! I thought I tolds you to have that wheat cut and bundled by the time I got home this afternoon!” He yelled, “And what do I find you here doin’? Filling your crummy face with my food!”
“B-But..” stammered Michael, taken aback by the man’s anger.
It was then that the man noticed the girl sitting across from him. “And what do we haves here?” he said, turning his gaze on Alicia. “You have lady friend with you, I sees. So that’s it then, while I’m away, you sneak a whore in to take your mind off yer duties!”
“Uncle!” Michael yelled, defending Alicia. “Alicia is no whore! She’s a friend....”
“A friend?” the man interrupted. “Since when did you have any friends? I never allowed you to have friends. Your parents tolds me to take you in to my home if anything ever happened to them. And this is how you repay my hospitality!”
“Now Frank...” The woman began, trying to calm her husband down. A reverberating slap filled the kitchen as the woman fell to the floor, a hand to a quickly reddening mark on her face.
“Shut up woman, if I wanted to hear your opinion, I’ll give it to you!” Frank yelled, as he towered over the poor woman who was now in tears. His hand raised again to admit another blow, when all of a sudden the room got colder and a the man’s arm froze in position.
“Now that’s enough!” Alicia yelled. Everyone turned to face her. Her hair was blowing slightly around her head by an unseen wind. As the looked at her, they could see ice crystals forming in the air above her hands.
“Huh? What’s this?” Frank exclaimed, trying to move his frozen arm, his eyes blazing with anger as he stared at Alicia. “You dare to bring an abomination like her into this house? It was things like her who destroyed the world of our ancestors, creations of that madman Sukbe! If it were up to me, I’d have them all hunted down and desrtoyed!”
Anger filled Alicia’s delicate features as she sent a blast of icy air at Frank, sending him flying across the room smashing into the wall, where he slumped down unconscious. As she was getting ready for another attack, Michael quickly placed a hand on her arm, shaking his head. Slowly she lowered her arms. A single tear ran down her cheek.
With Alicia calmer, Michael went over to his still crying aunt on the floor near the door. He helped her up off the ground and into a nearby chair. “It’s alright Aunt Agnes.”
Agnes looked up into Michael’s face, a forced smile on her lips. “I’m sorry dear,” she said, looking at Alicia. “I can’t apologize for my husband’s behavior, he’s really a decent man, deep down inside.”
“It’s alright.” replied Alicia, taking the woman’s hand. “After a while, you get used to hearing that kind of stuff.” Looking at the still form of Michael’s uncle, she added. “He’ll be alright, though he’ll have one hell of a headache when he comes to.”
Agnes nodded her head. “This isn’t the first time something like this has happened.” she said, looking at her husband. “I’m afraid dear,” she said to Michael. “But I think that it might be time for you to leave here for a while.”
Michael nodded. “I know, Auntie.”
“There’s a new backpack in my closet. I was going to give it to you for your birthday, but I think now’s a good time for you to have it. Go get it and get some stuff together, I’ll gather up some food for you to take on your journey.” With that, she got up and began to fill a bag with different types of food. Looking back at Michael she added. “Hurry up, before he wakes.” With no need of further prompting, Michael grabbed Alicia’s hand and lead her back upstairs to his room.
“You’ve done it this time Frank.”
Michael was busy packing clothes and supplies into his new backpack, while Alicia sat silently on his bed watching.
“I’m sorry.” Alicia said, breaking the silence.
Pausing in his attempts to shove a large blanket into the pack, he turned his head to look at her. “For what? That old bastard deserved what you did to him, I was getting ready to hit him myself.” He smiled at her, she smiled back at him and giggled as he absentmindedly was trying to stuff a lamp into the pack.
“I don’t think we’ll be needing one of those on our journey...”she told him, pointing to the lamp. He looked down at his hands and realizing what he was trying to do, laughed himself.
All of a sudden he stopped laughing. Looking at Alicia, he spoke, a serious tone in his voice. “First thing we’ll do when we leave, we’ll go find Randy’s body and bury it properly.” Hearing the name of her former Tamer, Alicia winced, but in her eyes Michael saw a glint of happiness. “Then we’ll head for the nearest Pokecenter, to tell them what happened in the glade. After that...I’m not too sure.”
“Randy and I...we passed a center in the last town we were in, about half a day’s walk from here.” Alicia told Michael, he looked up and nodded. After a few minutes, they had finished packing and headed downstairs to say good bye to Michael’s aunt.
“Well I guess this is goodbye.” Agnes said, pulling Michael into a tight hug. “Take good care of her.” she whispered in his ear, and gave him a wink as they drew apart.
Letting go of Michael, she then drew Alicia into a hug, shivering a little at the coldness of the girl’s body. “It was nice meeting you.” Giving her a wink she added.”I’ll give you a call if I ever need any help taking care of him.” She motioned with her head to a nearby chair where the unconscious form of her husband was.
Handing them a small pack full of food, she gave them each one last hug and waved them good bye as they headed down the lane. Turning to her husband she muttered to herself. “Well, I guess it is just you and me now. I’ll miss him.” she walked over to the table and began to put away the food that remained scattered there.
It took the two of them ten minutes of searching to find the spot of the attack. The ground stained crimson with blood, and the remains of Alicia’s former Tamer, Randy. Looking around, Michael was surprised to find that the body of the Widow had disappeared. Probably dragged off by some feral pokegirl for food, he thought with a shudder. Using a nearby branch as a crude shovel, Michael dug a shallow pit where he placed the body of Alicia’s former Tamer. Upon a piece of wood, he inscribed the following:
Here Lies Randy Glockheimer
Tamer and Friend
Alicia walked over and crouched near a stained pack on the ground. It belonged to her former Tamer. Rummaging through it, she found that everything was still there, and with a tear in her eyes, she shouldered the pack. Turning to face Michael she said: “No sense wasting the supplies, plus I should return some of this stuff that we will not need anymore.”
Turning around, she began to walk in the direction of the nearest town, after pausing for a few seconds, Michael quickly followed her.
It was getting dark by the time they made it to the town of Corsett, a small country town with a population under one thousand. But no matter how small the town, you could usually find a Pokecenter in it. The two of them, weary from travel, headed towards the red and white building. Standing behind the counter was a Nurse Joy, who gave them a strange look as they approached the desk.
“May I help you?” she asked, in a sweet voice.
“Yes.” replied Michael. “Where can I report the murder of a Tamer?”
The Nurse Joy’s eyes widened in shock at hearing the request. “U-Um...a T-Tamer was murdered?” she asked, covering her mouth, unable to believe what the young man had said.
“Unfortunately so. This girl’s Tamer was murdered by another unknown Tamer’s Widow...”
“A Widow!?” the Nurse squeaked. “Oh, no! What happened to the Widow? Is it still loose? I have to alert the authorities...” She picked up a phone and began dialing a number.
“It’s alright,” Michael placed a hand on the Nurse’s arm, stopping her dialing. “I killed it. It was a funny thing though, it wasn’t that hard to kill.”
“You...KILLED...it?” She asked.
“Yeah, somehow.” he answered. “But it didn’t seem like a real Widow. From what I heard, those bitches are supposedly almost invincible...”
“That’s correct.” said a voice behind them. They turned around to find a Officer Jenny standing behind them. Beside the blue uniformed pokegirl stood her Tamer, and superior officer. “You said that you killed a Widow?” the Tamer asked.
“Yeah, but I don’t think it was an ordinary widow. It was way too weak for it to be a true Widow.” Michael replied. “I killed it using only a scythe.”
“I’ve been hearing reports of some strange pokegirls around here, this might be linked to them.” The Jenny added, her Tamer nodding in confirmation. “You said that a Tamer was murdered?”
“Yes. This is Alicia,” Michael said, motioning to Alicia. “It was her Tamer that was killed by the Widow.”
The officer studied Alicia. “I see. And the body?”
“I buried it in the woods where he fell.” Michael, seeing tears forming in her eyes, placed an arm around Alicia’s shoulders.
“I’ll have to ask you two to come with me and fill out a report.” The officer said, Michael and Alicia nodded. “If you’ll follow me.” With that, both the Jenny and her tamer turned on their heels and walked out of the Pokecenter. Michael and Alicia quickly followed.
Once they arrived at the station Michael told the officer the whole story, from when he heard Alicia’s yells, to when they arrived at the Pokecenter, leaving out the parts of them having sex and the attack on his uncle, of course.
“That’s an interesting story that you’ve got there.” the officer said, as he finished typing notes onto his computer. Turning to Alicia he added, “I’m sorry about your Tamer, miss.”
Alicia looked at him and smiled. “Thank you, I’m alright now.”
“I’ll notify the other stations in the area about this new development.” The officer said, “It’s not normal for an ordinary Widow to act the way you reported it.”
“Tell me about it.” Michael responded, remembering how easy it was to kill it, and the Tamer’s face when he killed it. Weird.
“Widow’s don’t normally have Tamers,” the officer mused, “besides, why would someone actually WANT to Tame a Widow?” He shook his head. “As for the death of your Tamer, miss Alicia, it will take some time for the league to sort this out. I’d suggest that you both go to the Pokecenter and stay the night. By the morning, everything will be sorted out.”
“Thank you, officer.” Michael said as he and Alicia got up and left the officer’s office. They waved goodbye to the Officer Jenny who they met at the Pokecenter as they left the station and headed for the Pokecenter.
They had no trouble getting a room at the Pokecenter, as soon as they entered the room, both of them collapsed on the bed and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
The next day, they were called back to the Police Station. The Officer Jenny from the Pokecenter met them and lead them back into her Tamer’s office. “Hello again.” the officer greeted them as they entered the small office. “Please sit down. I received word this morning from the League regarding the death of Alicia’s late Tamer and what should happen to her. In accordance to League rules, since Alicia’s original Tamer was killed, and he had no known next of kin, Alicia is given a choice. She can either adhere to league recommendations to be transported to the nearest League facility where she will be assessed and then given to a new Tamer that they deem has the right skills to become her Tamer. Or....”
“Or?” Alicia asked, impatient.
“Or, if she so wishes, the person who rescued her will become her new Tamer.” The officer looked at Michael, trying to assess his abilities. “You’re not a Tamer, are you?”
“No.”
“Do you want to become a Tamer?”
This sudden question shocked Michael. Did he want to become a Tamer? Nobody ever asked him what he wanted to do, he was used to people telling him what to do. Having being kicked out of his home, with no where else to go, and no money also, he really had no other options at the moment. “Yes. I do want to become a Tamer.”
“Alright then.” The officer said. Rummaging through his desk, he withdrew a small stack of paper, which he then passed to Michael. “Here, take this test and give it to someone over at the Pokecenter.”
Michael looked over the papers in his hand, reading a few of the questions. Was this some sort of a joke? ‘If you could be any pokegirl, which one would you be?’, ‘Which shape appeals to you? A red sphere, or a Green Triangle?’. He looked up at the officer, a look of puzzlement on his face. “Hey, I don’t write those things, I just hand them out.” the officer told him.
Looking at Alicia, the officer asked, “So miss, what is your decision?”
Alicia looked at Michael, then at the officer. “Can I have some time to think about it?” The officer looked at her, then at Michael, who was clearly getting confused over the test, then back to Alicia. He gave her a nod and a wink.
Taking Michael’s arm, she lead him out of the station. She found a nearby café and ordered them some breakfast, Michael still mulling over the test. Looking at his puzzled expression, she managed somehow to stifle a giggle.
After about two hours of writing, erasing and re-writing, Michael finally gave up trying to figure the damn thing out and headed to the Pokecenter. As he handed the test over to one of the League representatives at the center, he was glad to get rid of the damn thing. The rep told him that it will only be a few minutes while they checked the test, and told him to wait on one of the nearby benches.
After about fifteen minutes, a Nurse Joy came up to Michael and Alicia, with a happy expression on her face. She was carrying a silver briefcase in her hands.
“Mr. Michael Kirishima?” she inquired. Michael nodded, to which the Joy squealed in delight.”I’m Katie, I’m pleased to inform you that you have passed the Tamer’s licence examination. And I might add, that the League reported that they never have received a test that did so well!”
Both Michael and Alicia were surprised to hear this. “As a new Tamer, I am pleased to present to you your new gear.” With this she opened the suitcase. Within the silver case was a brand new silver colored Pokedex, six empty Pokeballs with a carrying belt, a small supply kit containing a few potions and other restorative items, and two thing what looked like oversized wrist watches.
“What are these?” Michael asked, pointing to the watches.
The Katie looked down at the two devices. “ Those? They are for both the Tamer and his Alpha. They are a new type of portable computer. With all the new additions for the Pokedex, a engineer developed these. They contain a new type of GPS, with a holographic 3D display. A communication device that allows you better communication with the members of your harem during a battle. As well as a portable Pokeball transmitter, allowing you to switch members of your harem from almost anywhere in the world without the need of a Pokecenter.”
“Really, that’s amazing!” Michael exclaimed, as he took one of the devices and fitted it to his wrist. He took the belt an empty pokeballs and attached it to his waist, hooking the pokedex into it as well as the emergency kit. Taking the other wrist device, he looked at it, then at Alicia.
The Katie turned to face Alicia herself. “Miss Alicia, I was also asked to ask you if you have made your decision yet?”
Alicia looked from Katie, to Michael, then back to Katie. She closed her eyes and nodded to herself, making up her mind. “Yes I have. If he’ll have me,” she turned to Michael, “ I’d like Michael to be my new Tamer.”
Michael looked at her, both surprise and happiness in his expression. He smiled. “Of course I’ll have you, but under one condition.”
Alicia looked at him, puzzled. “What condition?”
“That you’ll become my Alpha.” he replied, slipping the second device onto her wrist. In response to this, Alicia smiled and hugged him tightly. “Of course I will, silly.”
“Yay!” Katie squeaked, hopping up and down. She bowed to the two before she turned around and returned to her duties.
Breaking the hug, Michael looked into Alicia’s blue eyes. “So what now?”
Kissing him, she replied. “I don’t know.”
In a dark chamber, deep within the mountains that gave the Mountain League it’s name, a scream reverberated of the walls, as brilliant blue arcs of electricity illuminated the vaulted chamber. “You let it escape!” boomed a menacing voice. The electricity paused for a moment, allowing a brief respite to the prone person, who was doubled over in pain.
“Many apologies, Master.” cried the figure, wheezing in pain, as he looked up towards an illuminated window, that was for the moment the only source of light in the chamber. “I nearly had it. It’s protector was taken care of, and I was just about to capture it...but...”
“But what?” boomed the voice, with a signal, the electricity flew again, causing blood-curdling scream from the man. With another motion, the electricity ended, plunging the chamber in darkness once again.
“...But some foolish boy came along.” wheezed the man, clutching his chest in pain. “He tore...it...apart, and ran of with my goal.”
“At least you retrieved Beta, though it came back in pieces...” sneered the voice. He was about to signal for electricity again, but suddenly had another idea. “You should feel yourself fortunate that I’m in a good mood. I’m giving you another chance. But if you fail...” He motioned towards the source of the electricity. “Well, you get the idea.”
“Thank you, Master. I shall not fail you a second time.” A door opened up in the wall, flooding the chamber with white light. Two Nurse Joys entered the room, each taking a side, helped to lead the man out of the chamber, the door closing behind them.
A pokegirl. He still couldn’t believe it. He had just made love to a pokegirl. He looked at the light blue hue of her skin, gently placing his fingers to her forehead he felt the coolness of her body that helped to identify her as an Ice Maiden, and Ice type pokegirl.
