Chapter 02

“Principal-sensei! Is that empty spot in the talent show still empty?” Shuichi asked barging into the man’s room with Hiroshi just a little ways behind him watching more than acting.

“Why yes, Shindou-san, is there something I can do for you?” He asked them adjusting his glasses from when he was startled.

“Me and Hiroshi-san would like to sign up if you please!” Shuichi said with a wide grin.

“Shindou-san that is preposterous the date is only four days away. This Friday! How can you possibly have an act by then?” the principal asked incredulously.

“Please Principal-sensei! We’ll be working really hard, please let us in that empty place!” Shuichi begged putting on his best puppy dog eyes.

“Shindou-san please be reasonable, what will your act be for even?” the principal asked.

“Music.” Shuichi declared. “Please Principal-sensei! Would you really crush this young boy’s dreams for something so trivial!?”

“Shindou-san you may dispense with the melodrama. If it’ll make you leave me alone you can have the spot. But if your act brings down the entire show’s rating you’ll have a very angry board of directors to deal with.” The principal warned.

“Duly noted, sir.” Shuichi said joyfully as he skipped out of the office and grinned at Hiroshi. “We got it!”

“So I heard, but class will be starting in a while so where do you want to meet to practice?” Hiroshi asked.

“Probably sometime around an hour or so after school at the gymnasium. Everyone should have gone home by then and we’ll have the place to ourselves. That okay Hiroshi-san?”

“Sure, and Shuichi, call me Hiro okay? People make me feel old with this Nakano-san and Hiroshi-san junk.” The older boy said as they parted ways for second period class.

“Will do, Hiro! See ya then!” Shuichi called back before vanishing around the corner on his way to class.

`

12:00, lunch break and Hiro stood outside by the front door waiting for Shuichi. He was probably doing that make up test for flunking the last time.

“Hey Hiro! Little bro!”

Hiroshi looked up over by the gate on the other side where his brother waved to him from his car. Hiro walked on over, what was his brother doing here? Wasn’t he still at that boarding school?

“Yuuji,” Hiroshi greeted his older brother. “What’s up I thought you wouldn’t be back for at least another couple of weeks.”

“Well I caught up faster than they expected and got to come home. And in celebration dad got me this cool new car to drive to school. Great to be sixteen, you know?” Yuuji grinned at his younger sibling.

“Whatever,” Hiro shrugged, “So where are you going for High school now?”

“I’m right next door. Soryuu High School.” Yuuji announced poiting out the larger school next door. “I happened to oversleep so I’m a bit late.”

“I see.” Hiro said. Yuuji was more than a bit late, but he wasn’t about to point that out and have a long drawn out conversation, or rather argument.

“Well got to class, nice talking with you bro!” Yuuji said as he continued to the high schools parking lot. Good luck finding a space. Hiro thought with a frown as he walked back to his waiting spot.

“Hiro!” Shuichi’s voice called as he barged through the front door to the school. “Hey, sorry that tes was long. Were you waiting too long for me?”

“No.” Hiro answered with a shrug.

“Yeah? Well, sorry anyway.” Shuichi said with an apologetic smile. Then a large bunch of screaming erupted from next door’s high school somewhere along the second floor and continued along and down to the first floor.

A lone figure sprinted across the yard and slammed into the wall just missing the exit to the parking lot. Hiro and Shuichi blinked at the oddness of the image.

The boy picked himself up right away though and rubbed his head, then looked over at the other two boys. He had longish short mussy dark green hair and blue eyes, and was carrying in one hand a pink plush bunny. Perhaps some would have thought him merely a child and probably not even in hgih school, certainly no one important. But despite the school clothes and bunny Shuichi did recognize him.

“Um… do you guys know where the exit is?” the boy asked rather cheerfully for having just smashed himself into a wall.

“Right there.” Hiro pointed to the place where the boy had missed getting to when he rocketed into the wall. The boy saw it and grinned back at Hiro.

“Thank you very much, and Kumaguro says thanks too.” He said poiting to the bunny before running off out the exit.

“Shuichi you okay?” Hiro asked waving a hand in front of his younger friends face.

“Hiro! That was Ryuchi Sakuma!” Shuichi exclaimed grabbing Hiro the chock wearing off. “From Nittle Grasper! That was him!”

“Hey! Where’d Ryuchi go?” Came a shout as a giant band of people filled out into the yard. Hiro shrugged.

“I think he ran out the back exit on the other side of the building.” Hiro told them. Immediately the throng filled back out the same loud shouts and calls in their wake.

“Nittle Grasper, huh?” Hiro wondered aloud as they walked away from the gate.

“Ryuchi is the bands vocalist and he’s my idol. Of course I was interested in music and forming a band even before I knew about Nittle Grasper. But it did tell me that you don’t have to start after you finish college or something.” Shuichi shrugged.

“That Ryuchi guy didn’t seem incredibly bright.” Hiro stated after a moment.

“He probably had a lot on his mind. Or maybe he was running so fast he couldn’t stop in time.” Shuichi shrugged it off.

The girlish giggles around the entrance of the school could be heard quite loudly. “What’s that crowd for?” Hiro asked after a moment.

“Um… not sure, one second.” Shuichi said as he walked over to the crowd and peered around a pair of the shorter girls shoulders. In the center of the gaggle of girls was a young boy probably also in his second year of junior high sitting on the steps and typing away at his laptop computer.

He had short but well groomed blonde hair and icy golden eyes. “So Yuki-kun… what’s your new book about? Can we get a small exerp?” one of the girls asked as she seated herself on the steps next to the youth.

“Leave me alone.” The boy told her coldly.

“Aw… don’t be like that Yuki-kun.” She told him with a smile.

“I don’t remember giving you permission to call me by my first name.” The boy said still not bothering to acknowledge the girls around him.

“Ayaka-chan give someone else a chance,” one of the older girls hissed to the seated brunette who reluctantly was forced to relinquish her position nearest to the blonde boy.

Shuichi withdrew from the crowd and turned to Hiro who had accompanied him over, though staying a few feet away from the actual crowd.

“It’s Yuki Eiri.” Shuichi shrugged as he started back inside with Hiro falling into step next to him.

“Who’s he?” Hiro asked.

“Some guy; popular of course. He published two novels, love stories, this year,” Shuichi explained, “Not to mention being rich and good looking makes for plus. Every girl in school about fawns over the guy. Kinda weird if you actually think about it.”

“I guess so.” Hiro nodded. The first school bell for fourth period after lunch rang. “I’ll see you an hour after school at the gym then.”

“Yeah, see you then!” Shuichi said with a smile as the two parted ways for class. Shuichi came to the stairs and started down, neglecting to notice the wet floor sign saying the stairs had just been mopped and so of course inevitably he fell down the stairs letting loose a yelp as he went.

Thankfully someone cushioned the fall.

“Shindou-san! What did you do to Eiri-sama!” a young girl’s voice screeched loudly. Shuichi looked up at the group of horrified girls and then looked down at exactly who he had landed on.

“Get the fuck off me, kid!” The angry blonde cursed at him.

Shuichi jumped off the older boy quickly, sputtering apologies as he did so; even though they probably wouldn’t save him.

“How could you do that Shindou-san? That was horrible!” one girl cried in outrage.

“Didn’t you read the sign dimwit! Those stairs have just been mopped, are you blind?!” another reprimanded.

“You’re such a clumsy idiot. You know you’ll pay for this.” Another girl insisted.

Then the brunette from before who had been sitting nest to Yuki came up to him and slapped him across the face. “You S.O.B.! Attacking my Yuki-kun like that! You vile piece of scum!” she yelled.

“Usami-san…” Shuichi said recognizing the brunette form one of his classes in the mornings.

“Stand down. I don’t need a group of girls to fight my battles.” Yuki commanded. Ayaka backed away into the crowd the rest of the girls watching in expectation of the fight.

“But I didn’t mean to… did I say I was sorry?” Shuichi squeaked. The other boy looked ready to really kill him. “I said I was sorry!”

Shuichi turned around and sprinted down the hall and around the corners to his next class as fast as he could, not bothering to check if anyone was coming after him.

`

“Yuki-kun, aren’t you going to go after him.” Ayaka asked the boy after a moment when Shuichi had run away.

Yuki’s scowl remained firmly in place but he did not look at Ayaka or any of the other girls. “Not now. But that kid will pay.”

`

Geez, I kicked Yuki Eiri when I slipped on the stairs. I’m in big trouble now… Shuichi thought holding his head in his hands worrying. I hope I’ll be able to avoid those guys for a while. At least until everyone forget about the stairs incident.

Not likely, kid.
