The Calm
Chapter 23: Whisper

*Catch me as I fall
Say you’re here and it’s all over now*

Amaya huddled in a dark corner of the bathroom, her eyes blank as she stared at her warped mirror. ‘I can’t do this… I know what she’ll do… what she’s done,’ she whispered mentally.

‘What are you going to do about it?’ the voice asked.

Amaya winced. ‘I have to… I have to leave. I don’t want to, but it’s the only way to keep them safe!’

The voice seemed pleased. ‘Exactly, what would Julia do to Sith if she got her hands on her? Or Vicious, for that matter? Or Aurora?’

Amaya whimpered. “No… nononono! Stop!” she gasped silently.

*Speaking to the atmosphere
No ones here and I fall into myself*

‘You know I’m right, Amaya. We have to leave. Tonight. This has to end. You know who she has! Look at the letter in your hand!’

Amaya forced her head to move slowly, staring at the crumpled letter in hand. She knew what it said. She just didn’t want to read it again. “She has James.”

‘Exactly, and only you can stop her!’ the voice bellowed.

Amaya nodded, her grey eyes blank and silver. “Only we can stop her.”

*This truth drives me into madness
I know I can stop the pain if I will it away*

She made quick work of her sparse possessions, shoving them into her black duffle bag as she strapped her sword to her hip. She would not let one she cared for so much endure what Spike already had. What she had endured so long ago, after she had first become Eve.

[Flashback]

“You Marissa?” a man in syndicate uniform asked as he emerged from the shadows.

She nodded. This was the man that she had been told to kill. He didn’t seem very threatening. “I’m not called Marissa anymore.”

The man smiled, it was the smile of a truly vile creature. She could see that now. He would cause her the most horrible of pains. “That’s right, you’re Eve now. Such a pretty thing.”

Eve winced, her body faltering momentarily, to her doom.

*Don’t turn away (Don’t give into pain)
Don’t try to hide (Though they’re screaming your name)
Don’t close your eyes (God knows what lies behind them)
Don’t turn out the light (Never sleep never die)*

She screamed as he tore at her clothes, as he held her down. She couldn’t break his grip, only struggle and beg as he began to remove his pants. She knew what he would do… god, she begged for him to stop, only to receive that vile smile again as he rammed his hard length within her dry core.

*I’m frightened by what I see
But somehow there’s much more to come*

It was then that she heard it, a faint voice within. ‘Let me stop him.’

Eve whimpered, allowing control to go over to this new voice within. The man froze over her, his body shuddering as he spilt himself within her as her eyes changed from grey to silver. She then watched as his eyes bugged out of his sockets and blood flowed over her torn and bruised form. He garbled some words as she shoved his dying body from her, watching as it twitched and writhed in the floor.

Eve’s eyes widened as they returned to grey, her body scampering into a corner as she trembled in fear. “What are you?” she asked the voice aloud.

‘I am Kaishi. I am your inner demon, the killer, the one that laughs and plays with death. You’re protector.’

Eve nodded as she watched the man’s cooling body on the floor before her. “My protector.”

[End Flashback]

“No, he will not fall to the same fate,” Amaya whispered, her voice cold as her silver eyes glared at the full bag before her. “I need only weapons for this.”

“Need weapons for what?” a cool, deadpan voice asked from the doorway.

Amaya spun to see Sith watching her. Sith seemed to examine her, from her silver gaze, to her disheveled hair, to the still-bleeding cuts on her arms. “You!” Amaya’s cold voice growled.

“I see that you fooled Amaya into a temporary truce. Then, as soon as tragedy hits, you lock her away, telling her it’s for her own good. You’re a real piece of work.”

Amaya smiled coldly. “You have no power over us. We will have our revenge on the blonde bitch, and then we will continue with our plans.”

“Plans?” Sith inquired.

*Immobilized by my fear
And soon to be blinded by tears*

Amaya froze. “Fuck!”

“What plans?” Sith demanded as she closed the doors.

Amaya’s cold smile returned. “You think you can stop us, stop me?” she asked.

“I think I could manage.”

“I, unlike Amaya, hold no affections for you or anyone. I will kill you.”

“Who are you?” Sith asked.

“Surely you know me? You’ve seen me many times, beneath the surface. I am Kaishi. I am death. And soon, I will be free to rule this body. Much like you are free to rule Kate’s body.”

Sith flinched slightly, but not noticeably so. “I know you.”

Amaya/Kaishi grinned. “Good. Then you will know the face of your death.”

*I can stop the pain if I will it all away*

They fought for a small while, Sith eventually pinning Amaya to the bed. “Tell me these plans!”

Amaya’s eyes flashed grey sorrow before returning to silver. “Beast! I will tell you nothing, nor will Amaya. She fears your rejection of her. And you would reject her.”

Sith strengthened her grip on Amaya’s wrists. “Amaya! Talk to me!”

Her eyes flashed grey again before a pained sob left her throat. “She has him… I have to stop her!” she begged softly.

Sith froze. Amaya never begged. Never.

Amaya’s eyes became silver again and she struggled against Sith’s vice-like grip. “Unhand me!” she ordered.

Sith shook her head. “She has who?”

“Julia has Wraith, she has sent us a letter, spotted with his blood and a picture. She will kill you all, I have to leave!” Amaya pleaded as her eyes became soft grey again.

Sith ceased to breathe. Julia had James? That blonde whore held her brother hostage? This was not right! “Where?”

“I don’t know! Please! I have to help him!” Amaya begged, her sobs thickening her words as she shook with sorrow.

Sith could feel that the cold Kaishi was suppressed, for now. She released the other woman’s arms and watched as they remained in those places and Amaya continued to sob.

*Don’t turn away (Don’t give into pain)
Don’t try to hide (Though they’re screaming your name)
Don’t close your eyes (God knows what lies behind them)
Don’t turn out the light (Never sleep never die)*

“I… I love him, Sith,” she cried.

Sith nodded. She could at least see that. “What about your ‘friend’?”

Amaya froze. “I… I can’t control her anymore, Sith. I need to leave, if not for his, then for the others. I don’t want her hurting you, any of you!”

“You can control her.”

“No, I can’t! I’m not strong anymore, Sith! Any barrier I had on her, I lost when I came back. I need to leave.”

“No.”

“Can’t you see, Sith! She’s going to kill you all! She’s taken everything I planned and has perverted it!”

“What the fuck are these plans!?” Sith demanded.

Amaya looked away. “It doesn’t matter anymore, anyways. Everything’s already ruined. Damn, blonde bitch!”

“Please, Amaya,” Sith’s voice grew soft. “Stop telling me lies.”

Amaya paused and then nodded. “I never meant to hurt anyone. Not you, not Vicious, not Spike, not Aurora, not James… not any of you, but I failed at that too. I cause you all such pain,” she murmured as she cupped the red haired woman’s face softly.

*Fallen angels at my feet
Whispered voices in my ear
Death before my eyes
Lying next to me I fear
She bekons me shall I give in
Upon my end shall I begin
Forsaking all I’ve fallen for I rise to meet the end (the end)*

“I’m the traitor.”

Sith stiffened. “You-“

“I was going to destroy it, and everything it stood for. All the pain it’s caused me and the ones I loved. You were all to escape, for the most part, unscathed, and I would fade away.”

Sith leapt from the bed, backing away as she stared in shock. “You were going to destroy the Red Dragons?” she asked, her eyes flashing violet.

Amaya nodded. “Yes.”

Sith shook her head and turned from the grey eyed woman, leaving her in the darkness of her room. Amaya sighed sadly as she gathered her belongings and readied herself to leave. She made sure to pause at each room, bidding farewell to the sleeping forms of her compatriots and friends before leaving the apartment that she had come to call home.

Within her mind, as she walked down the rain drenched streets, a cold voice laughed within. ‘I told you, they’d hate you!’ the cold voice taunted. ‘I told you!’

Amaya sighed and nodded. “I know, and you were right. They will never want to see me again. All we need to do now is find James and return him to Sith before we leave for good,” she murmured as she turned down a blind alley.

‘Yes, then we will wait,’ the cold voice stated. ‘and then it will end.’

Amaya nodded and sighed. “Indeed, Kaishi, it will end.”

The cold laugh continued to echo through her mind as she vanished into shadow. ‘It would have never lasted. Nothing ever does. Only we do… only I do.’

*Don’t turn away (Don’t give into pain)
Don’t try to hide (Though they’re screaming your name)
Don’t close your eyes (God knows what lies behind them)
Don’t turn out the light (Never sleep never die)*
