The Hunt Begins

The Hunt Begins

Duuz smirked to himself. It was about time they became the hunters instead of the hunted. He didn't care that Sith and Rorgan space was mostly unexplored, it just added more of a thrill to an already thrilling hunt. And, the prey would continue to run until they beat it into submission.

"I know that you Ctarls are used to being on the hunt and chasing your enemy into their own territory, but we don't know that space real well," Valeria let out, pacing in her and the blond Ctarl's quarters.

"Calm down mate, or you'll wear a hole in the deck plate from all your pacing," the blond Ctarl joked.

"Will you be serious," she said with her hands on her hips.

"Mrow, you're getting me in the mood," he said, coming from behind her and started rubbing up against her.

She sighed," How long until we reach the border of their space?"

The blond looked at the chronometer and frowned, "Unless this piece of crap is malfunctioning, we're about twenty minutes away."

"Twenty minutes! There's no time for screwing around!" the shouted and grabbed her uniform, threw off her nightgown and quickly got into her uniform. The blond sighed. She was right, of course. Twenty minutes was enough for him anyway.

888

"Fifteen minutes until we breach Sith controlled space," Melfina informed.

"Hey, your shaking over there," Gene said to Aisha.
"I'm not nervous if that's what you're thinking. No Ctarl has been this far into Sith space," she answered.

"She's excited," Jim said to Gene.

"More than usual?" Gene fired back.

"The Ctarl are probably all excited to be going this deep into Sith space," Jim replied.

888

"Five minutes general," the tactical officer said to the human general.

"What's the tactical computer saying?" the general questioned.

"There's a sub-ether signal up ahead of us. It's already entering Sith control space," the tactical officer reported.

"They've reached their home," the general commented.

"Sir, tactical readout just refreshed itself," the officer informed. When the tactical computer picked up another tactical threat, the computer would immediately refresh the view in order to display the new data.

"What is it showing," the general inquired.

"A large, no, a very large station. I think it's one of their star bases."

"That's not surprising, fleet wide red alert, battle stations," the general ordered. klaxons sounded on the bridge of his and most of the military controlled ships in the fleet.

888

"Fleet wide red alert has been issued," Jim reported.

"Jumping back into normal space in 5...4...3...2...1..." Melfina called out and the entire fleet re-appeared in normal space.

"What the hell is that thing?" Gene asked.

"It's a star base," Jim said in awe. It was larger than any space station he'd ever seen.

"Look at the number of ships docked there," Suzuka pointed out.

"Yeah, more of those spider grappler ships," Gene grunted out.

"C3 units on line, fleet has been ordered to deploy in its wings," Jim announced.

"Go to grappler combat mode," Gene ordered.

888

The Sith space station was the first to fire off its weapons. When it did, the fleet was forced to back off out of its firing range. The thing had enough fire power to destroy half of the fleet within three minutes if they weren't careful.

The grappler ships that were docked now launched and joined their fellows in the fight. The two fleets were now equal in numbers once again.

888

"Give me all tactical data on that station!" the human general shouted.

"That thing has two dozen batteries of energy weapons and a dozen or so ports to fire missiles from," the tactical officer said.

"Weaknesses?" the general asked.

"Smaller ships are harder for it to hit. Our carrier ships would be sitting ducks if they got into firing range," the officer said.

"Order the carriers to focus on the fleet. Tell the grappler wings to push through their ranks and start attacking that station!"

888

"They want us to what!?" Gene shouted.

"Grappler ships are much smaller and harder for that thing's targeting systems to hit. We're the fastest so we should be the hardest target to hit," Jim explained.

"Yeah, but where do we even start in attacking the thing?" Gene asked.

"There and there, the shield array and the communications antenna," Jim reported.

"Ok, contact the rest of our wing, tell them to punch a hole so we may take out big and ugly over their," Gene ordered.

888

"Keep their fire drawn onto us!" the blond Ctarl shouted.

"Can the grappler wings even do any damage to that thing?" Valeria asked.

"We're about to find out, look," the blond said and pointed to where Gene's wing had breached through and were heading towards the station.

"You better not screw this one up," Valeria said to the tactical view of Gene's ship.

888

"Scatter! If we stay bunched up like this they will be able to hit us easier," Jim barked through the com-channel.

The fifth wing did scatter and started concentrating their fire power on the shield generator. Eventually, wings two and four joined as well. The shields were knocked out, but most of their weapons were used in the attempt. Wings one and three were then left to destroy the antenna, which turned out to be the easier of the two tasks. The grappler ships quickly fell back, having nothing left to use against the station.

888

"They are falling back to within the firing range of their space station," the tactical officer reported.

"Can we knock that thing out?" the human general asked.

"Tactical and C3 units say that we don't have enough fire power to do that. Not even the Ctarl ships can do that," the officer reported.

"Damn, the Ctarl aren't going to like this, tell the fleet to..."

"Sir, we can fall back to this pirate outpost about ten light years away. We might get a fight there so the Ctarls can let out their frustrations before we go back to Heifong," the tactical officer said.

"Good thinking, ok, tell the fleet to fall back to that point," the general said and the alliance fleet jumped back into trans-ether, leaving a mad hornets' nest behind them.
