Chapter 28: Hello
*Playground school bell rings again
Rain clouds come out to play again
Has no one told you she’s not breathing?*
What the hell could he say to her? He could barely even stand to spend time in the same room with her, let alone speak to her. To finally know that Katy was alive, let alone semi-okay. Sure, she had multiple personalities, she at least got out of that hell hole. His escape had not been as… planned as hers had been. He knew Kate too well, he knew Sith too well, to know that the death of her parents was no accident.
Sith slowly walked into the room, her hair still damp from her morning shower. She eyed him almost warily for a moment before heading towards the blessed coffeemaker that he himself was basking in the bounty of.
“Morning,” he greeted lowly.
Sith grunted. She was obviously not awake quite yet.
“You look like you could have slept better, Katy,” he teased, knowing only she’d hear. Faye had a tendancy to sleep in, and Vicious? Well, it was 7 am, and like clockwork he’d be in the shower. James was bedbound and Aurora slept like Faye… until ten. The only one he would have possibly to worry about would have been Amaya, but she wasn’t there.
*Hello I’m you’re mind giving you
Someone to talk to
Hello*
Sith stiffened, her stony eyes glaring at him. “What was that?”
“Ah, so you do remember,” he said.
Sith turned from him sharply, attempting to ignore him.
*If I smile and Don’t believe
Soon I know I’ll wake from this dream*
“She said in her report that you’d been starting to get your memory back, nice to see that you could remember little ol’ me.”
Sith’s grip on her mug tightened. “God damn nosy…” she mumbled.
“I know, I’m a bastard.”
“I wasn’t talking about you,” Sith ground out.
“Ah, Amaya then. Well, maybe it was wise for her not to return.”
“Go away, Spike.”
Spike pouted playfully. “Aw, you’re no fun, Katy.”
“If you tell anyone-,“
“Yeah, yeah, you’ll disembowel me with your pinky finger. I’ve received that threat from you before… well, not you, but that feral version of you.”
*D try try to fix me I’m not broken
Hello, I’m the lie living for you so you can hide
Don’t cry*
“When did she-?”
“When you were in labor. You threatened everyone. Most of it was aimed at Vicious, I might add.”
Sith snorted.
Spike shrugged and placed his now empty mug in the sink. “If you want to talk to her, she left me her new address and number.”
Sith froze but her voice remained impassive. “Did she now?”
Spike nodded. “Yup. She doesn’t expect you to. She thinks you hate her.”
Sith looked away from Spike’s understanding brown eyes. Those eyes had listened to her as she cried in his arms when they were children; eyes that had watched her back during a fire fight. He then placed a hand on her shoulder softly. She could feel Kate within, wanting to run to him again, but they weren’t friends, not like they had been.
*Suddenly I know I’m not sleeping
Hello, I’m still here
“I’m glad they never got to you,” his deep voice said softly as he gently squeezed her shoulder and left the room. “Later, Katy.”
*All that’s left of yesterda
