Confusion
As Shi approached, she noticed the oddest expression on Tenpou’s face. It was odd because she couldn’t quite place the emotion behind it. She shrugged it off, figuring it was Tenpou being weird as usual.
Tenpou on the other hand, knew exactly what the emotion behind the expression was and it frankly terrified him out of his mind. He had no clue how to begin with her, he thought wildly while watching her walk toward him. Gods he was an idiot. How was it he had never seen something that was directly in front of him? Kenren had been right when he’d said Shi was everything he’d ever said he wanted in a woman. She was smart, strong, easy on the eyes, determined and a whole host of other things he had never really thought about until he found himself missing what she brought into his life. He growled a little to himself. This disaster was his own making. He chose to push her away constantly, not once or twice but hundreds of times. How did you make up for over a hundred years of being a complete and utter ass to someone? He supposed he could try the romantic approach but that was more likely to get him knocked out than anywhere near her good graces. Shi was nothing if not direct and the notion of giving her candy or flowers seemed inane even in his own head.
He stepped out of the underbrush and met her halfway, still thinking on how to approach the sticky and daunting task of trying to get close to her when she’d obviously decided she wanted no part of him any more. Honestly, who could blame her for feeling she’d had enough? He would have called it quits long before now. Why did things have to be so damn complicated? And shouldn’t there be a book somewhere on dealing with women? Even if such a tome existed he doubted there had ever been a woman in the whole of the universe like Shi.
“Is Konzen swamped in work?” she asked.
“Huh? Oh, not really. Not that I know of. Why?”
Shi looked at him puzzledly. “Why are you here then? I thought you were coming to get Goku.”
“No. I wanted to ask you something,” he said.
“Which is?” she prompted.
“Did you know that your second and mine are sleeping together?”
Shi’s eyebrows flew up almost to her hairline. “Well, that certainly explains a few things about her behavior lately,” Shi mused. “How did you find out about it?”
“I . . . um . . . kind of walked in on them.”
Shi burst out laughing, waking the two boys who shuffled over to them still yawning and stretching.
“What’s so funny, Shi?” Goku asked through a yawn.
“It’s a grown up funny, not a kid funny, Goku,” Shi said, ruffling his hair.
Goku crossed his arms over his chest and huffed. “We never get to know the grown up stuff.”
“That’s cause we aren’t grown ups yet,” Nataku pointed out.
“Still,” Goku said, sounding heartily annoyed before turning to look first at Tenpou then at Shi. “Can Ten-chan stay and play with us, Shi? Pleeeaaasssee!”
Shi glanced sideways at Tenpou before answering. “I think that’s up to him.”
