Chapter 3

Vash stirred quietly in his sleep before snuggling closer to the man who slept quietly beside him. Wolfwood, in turn, unconsiously snuggled back.

Since the day of Wolfwoods pronounced death nearly a year ago, Vash had fallen into a deep depression and continued to travel with the new lovers Millie and Meryl.

At one point, news of a living Nicholas D. Wolfwood spread through the mans orphanage. Vash returned there to find his bestfriend live and well. The priest never explained how he came to live again. Vash, in return, never asked.

Millie had gotten over her lost love and the miscarriage that followed. As she buried herself in her friendship with Meryl she soon found herself in love with her partner.

That was all six months ago, and life had returned to what the group called "normal". Fast girls, cheap hotels, drunken nights, bar fights, and the occasional bounty hunter. But those daily things could not blind them from the truth. Peace always led to war.

Vashes aqua eyes flutered open, his sight instantly falling on Wolfwood. The man allowed a smile to cover his features as he remembered the day he finally heard of his live friend and the greeting that followed.

"Vash! Vash did you hear?!"

Vash looked up at Millie, the mammoth running towards him at top speed, her eyes gleaming with unshed tears. "Uh..no!" His answer ended in a high-pitched screetch as the woman glomped him.

"Wolfwood! Oh Mr.Vash,he's alive! Wolfwoods alive!"

The priest dressed in black instantly caught Vashes eyes. That dark hair moving with the wind, eyes half closed, a smile on his face as he held one of his many orphans in the air.

"Wolfie?"

Nicholas turned to see the only man who ever called him by that nickname. "Vash."

For the rest of that week Vash and the girls helped sort out all the confusion that had occured surrounding Wolfwoods death. They stayed there for one long week, taking care of the kids and cleaning up the orphanage.

Then they were off on another adventure, only to return to the orphanage at the end of every month. Now they were here, and a new face had entered their world.

Vash nearly jumped out of his skin when Wolfwood opened his eyes.

"Morning Wolfie!" An over-eager Vash greeted the sleepy Wolfwood.

Wolfwood closed his eyes and rolled over. "Go back to bed..it's too e." H." He raised a hand and waved it at Vash.

"oooh, come on Wolfie, please?" Vash pressed himself to Wolfwoods back and whimpered in his ear. "Get up."

Wolfwood shook his head and attempted to pull the covers over him. "Vash..too early..."

"Wolfie, it's two in the afternoon." Vash said in a matter-of-fact tone as he poked Wolfwoods side. "Up!"

"Fine, I'll get up! In the name of God!" He sat up and stared down at Vash. The blonde smiled.

"C'mon. We have to go get some money, I'm almost outta cash." Vash sat up and yawned, stretching out in his yellow pajamas.

Wolfwood moaned and buried into the mess of sheets and blankets. "Too..bright." Hw whined.

Vash crossed his legs and closed his eyes for his daily three seconds of meditation, to start the day.
