Alucard's Interlude
*** Chapter Three ***
That evening, as Integra was finishing up the last of her paperwork, Alucard stepped out of the shadows and approached her desk. “Good evening, Master.”
“Yes, Alucard? What is it?” She did not bother looking up from her work.
“There hasn’t been a lot happening of late,” the vampire observed wistfully. “No missions, no battles... no fun.”
“I should call that a blessing,” replied Integra. “It gives me time to catch up on things. For once, I’m almost finished this damned paperwork. Be thankful you don’t have to deal with all this rubbish.”
Alucard grinned. “So, what’s this I hear about a wedding? You’ve decided to get married?”
Integra stiffened in her chair. “It’s not your concern. The only thing that involves you is that there will soon be an heir to the Hellsing line which means when I am gone, you will still be bound to this family and unable to cause trouble.”
Alucard hooted with laughter. “My Master, married and pregnant. Now that will be a sight to see!” He barely managed to catch the thick, leather-bound book that came whizzing towards his head. “Are we to see the mighty Integra barefoot in the kitchen next?”
“It is my duty to my family, and I will not shirk it,” she said firmly. “If you harass me about it, I will lock you back in the dungeon where you belong. Understand?”
“Of course, Master,” he replied, slipping back into the shadows in the corner of the office. Like a Cheshire cat, the last thing to disappear was his grin.
