Chapter 3:
The Glorious and The Terrible

Robin stared incredulously at her captain. Trying to comprehend what he had just said, the severity of the situation hit her like a ton of bricks.

“So….you’re..pregnant?”

Luffy nodded. He looked up at the dark haired woman sitting across from him.

“Luffy! How could you have wished for that! You’re way to young to be a parent!! You’re only seventeen!”

Luffy stared up at her with his big doe eyes. Tears were starting to drip as he sniffled.

“I thought you were gunna help me Robin!!”

She sighed and tried to calm herself down.

“I’m sorry. It’s just the severity of the situation. We don’t even know how this kid is going to be born or how a child can be conceived out of nowhere!”

“It wasn’t conceived out of nowhere! That’s why I’m…I’m scared to tell Zoro…”

Robin raised her eyebrow.

“Why would……,” she cut herself off as her eyes widened , “You mean it’s Zoro’s kid?!”

“Why wouldn’t it be?!”

He didn’t look up at her. Robin stared at him for a few minutes.

“Luffy, this isn’t going to work.”

“Robin, what are you trying to say?”

“Come on, Luffy! A baby aboard a pirate ship? You can’t continue to try and become pirate king while raising a child!”

Luffy looked crushed as Robin’s words hit him like a blow to the face.

“What are you trying to tell me?”

Robin took a sip of her tea, trying to keep herself calm as the brunette captain started to shake.

“Are you telling me to get rid of my baby?”

The sound of glass shattering broke the silence. Robin ignored her broken cup on the floor.

“No! Of course not! I could never ask that of you!!”

Luffy started to sniffle and rubbed at his eyes.”

“I’m sorry, Robin.”

Realizing her mistake she came over to him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.

“I’m sorry, Luffy. I promise that I will help you out here. I didn’t mean it to sound like that. It’s just that you’re going to have a lot of responsibility on your hands now.”

He continued to sniffle and wipe his eyes.

“I’m too scared to tell Zoro, Robin. He’ll get mad and tell me to get rid of my baby and-and!”

“Calm down!” Robin shouted, “It’ll be okay!”

Luffy shook his head in dismay.

“I should have never made that wish!! I really wanted this but now everyone will leave me!! And Zoro wont love me anymore!!”

Robin hugged Luffy even tighter.

“No! No one will leave you! I will still be here for you, Luffy. You can always count on me to help you out.” She soothingly rubbed her hand up and down his back.

“Now listen. Don’t you dare regret this. You wanted this and now you’ve got it. And if anyone tells you that it was wrong and they go against you on this may they be damned!”

He broke out into a bright smile.

“Thank you.”

Robin rubbed his shoulders again.

“Anything for my captain…so, what do you want me to do?”

Luffy wrung his hands together.

“Can you tell them? I mean…you know..”

Robin folded her hands together.

“I really think that’s something you need to tell them yourself.”

“I want to, but I can’t! I’m too scared, Robin! Please don’t make me do this!”

“Luffy!!”

He jumped as the look in her eyes turned cold.

“Listen to me. I know that only you can tell them. If you can’t then it would be cowardly. Do you really want to act like a coward?”

She bit her lip as the young captain hiccupped.

“I don’t want to be a coward. I’m just afraid of how Zoro will react! You know how he can fly off the handle at times!”

“I am well aware of that, Luffy,” Robin reassured him, “ but he is the father of your baby and he has to know. And the way he finds out has to be from you.”

She bit her lip once more as she saw the sun coming up brighter then before. Looking at the clock on the wall it read that it was almost 7:30 in the A.M. and Sanji would be coming soon to start making breakfast.
“But,” she started out quickly, “ If you are worried about your own and your child’s welfare, then for your safety I will relay the message.”

She was greeted with a tackle from said rubber boy.

“Thank you, Robin! Thank you so much!!”

“Hey, hey! Calm down! Settle down, remember your condition!”

Luffy blushed slightly and Robin patted his shoulder.

“Let’s get going. Sanji will be here soon and we all know how protective he is of his precious kitchen.”

* * *

Sanji stared out of the kitchen window. He hadn’t believed his eyes when he had seen Luffy and Robin sit down in the sun and start to have a real conversation.

Snuffing out his cigarette, Sanji continued to stare out the window while peeling an apple. He felt slightly dejected at the thought that Robin was sitting there smiling and laughing with someone other then him. But it bothered him even more at seeing Luffy smiling happily. Even through his bouts of sickness he continued to laugh and chuckle.

His eye caught the pot of water that started to boil and returned to his duty of cooking that night’s dinner, pushing thoughts other then that from his head.

* * *

The smell of dinner swam over the Going Merry as the whole crew settled down at the table. Sanji had decided to go Italian that night so the table was filled with the scents of pesto, mozzarella, garlic, and tomato.

Sanji grinned to himself as he saw the rest of the crew salivating at the meal. His grin melted into a frown when he looked at Luffy who sat there in a dead trance.

“Oi, Luffy.”

Sanji never got his answer, for as soon as the scent of pesto hit luffy’s nose, he bolted upright, dashing to bathroom. No more then seconds later were their ears assaulted by the sounds of Luffy’s retching.

Robin clasped his hands around his cup of tea as the others started to eat the delicious meal prepared for them. That was until Nami broke the silence.

“Do you know what’s wrong with him, Chopper?” she asked turning to the small elk.

“It looks to me like it’s just a stomach bug, or perhaps food poison-”

Chopper stopped himself as he realized Sanji was glaring at him.

“That’s ridiculous,” spat Zoro as he slammed down his mug of booze, “ When has anything upset his stomach?! You’ve seen the way he eats!! And he never gets sick! Ever since I met him I have not even seen him have a cold!!”

Zoro’s face contorted slightly as the sound of Sanji’s chuckling.

“Calm down, lover boy.”

“NANI?!!”

“Come off it, Zoro,” Usopp nonchalantly spoke into his drink, “ We all know that you and Luffy are banging ever nook, cranny, odd and end.”

Robin bit her lip trying not to chuckle as Zoro’s face turned three shades of red.

“There’s nothing wrong with a male, male relationship. Just as long as you use protection.”

“CHOPPER!!”

“I swear, ever day I’ve had to disinfect that poor kitchen table.”

“SHOVE IT, PRINCESS!!”

“I think it’s really adorable!!”

“NAMI!!”

Robin found herself laughing with the rest of the crew, almost forgetting her plans. Waiting for the laughter to die down and Zoro to put away his swords she took another sip of her drink.

“You know, Luffy and I had the most interesting conversation this morning.”

Nami instantly rolled her eyes.

“That’s a first if I’ve ever heard it.”

“No, no. It really was interesting.”

“Well then, Robin-Chan, please do enlighten us,” Nami countered back in a sickly sweet tone.

Robin smiled to herself.

“Well, he told me what he wished for.”

A dead silence hung in the air.

“NANI?!!”

“It’s true.”

“Well, what is it?!”

“Tell us!”

“Let’s hear it, Robin-Chaaan!!”

She took a glance over at Zoro and flinched slightly when she saw he was staring at her hard. She gulped deeply,

“Chopper?”

“Hai, Robin?”

“Describe Luffy’s symptoms.”

“Well,” he started , “ he’s nauseas, cranky, is having strange mood swings-”

“You can say that again,” Usopp moaned, remembering how he had unsettled Luffy that morning, earning him a throbbing foot.

“What does that sound like to you, Chopper?”

“For a man, it’s highly unusual. But for a woman it would…..” Chopper trailed off as his eyes bugged out.

“What?”

“I don’t get it…”

Chopper looked at Robin who solemnly nodded. His shocked expression quickly turned to that of great excitement.

“This is going to be so amazing!! I can’t wait to see how the whole thing turns out!!”

The rest looked quite puzzled.

“Think about it! Morning sickness, mood swings, aches and pains…” Robin trailed off.

“He wished to be sick?”

“USOPP, YOU DUMMY!”

“So what did he wish for?!”

“It’s easy,” Chopper calmly stated, “ The one thing he wanted, but never could have…….a child.”

Robin held her breath as she waited for Zoro’s reaction. He was doing nothing; just sitting in a shocked stupor.

The rest of the crew sat there as well but not in the same shocked stupor. It was more of a “Uuuuuuuuhhhhh, ok?” shock. They waited with baited breath. That was until one could literally hear Zoro’s mind snap.

He shoved himself off his chair, pushing himself away from the table in the process . His eyes seemed ablaze with a dark rage. The only look of one who had been betrayed. He immediately started off toward the restroom where the young captain was still up heaving his lunch.

Robin immediately remembered what Luffy had discussed with her.

“Zoro! Stop!”

He ignored her shouts as he continued. Robin spun towards the others.

“We have to stop him! He’s going to hurt Luffy!”

As if a shot had gone off the others dashed after the green haired swords-man in attempt to protect their captain from his awaiting rage.

Zoro smashed open the bathroom door revealing the retching captain, still huddling over the toilet. The outburst shook him from his reverie and he looked up upon his green-haired lover, his eyes sparkling with intense rage. Luffy’s pained face quickly turned to fear as he started to shake.

“Z..Zoro..”

He did not reply. He suddenly barged over to the younger, snatching his arm in his firm grasp, roughly hauling Luffy to his feet.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?!! You stupid fuck!!”

“Zoro!! You’re hurting me!”

Luffy cried out as Zoro’s grip tightened quite a bit.

“Zoro!! Let him go!!” Robin shouted.

He ignored her yet again.

“How could you have asked for that?!! A child?! If you wanted a child then you should have gotten someone else to father it, you fucker!!”

“B-But…Zoro, I-”

“You selfish bitch!! I didn’t want this!”

Luffy shook from his tears and cringed ever time a shout was hurled at him. He took in a shuddering breath and tried to compose himself.

“I-I’m not selfish, Zoro….Th-this is what I wanted! And I could never have it!! That’s why I wished for it!! The one thing I wanted!”

“…………..So….you used me…you used me to spawn your offspring?”

“I didn’t use you.”

“Bullshit!”

“I DIDN’T USE YOU!!”

“BULLSHIT!”

“Zoro, stop it!!” Nami shouted at him.

“I didn’t…” He once again tried to free his aching arm from the vice grip with no prevail. He hiccupped a few times before starting again, “ I didn’t want anyone else…I wanted it to be you….you, Zoro.”

Zoro loosened his grip slightly, but not by much.

“But….you could have asked me…you could have fucking asked my opinion!! You just went on without my thoughts on the whole thing!”

“Because you would have said no!”

“Of course I would have said no!! I’m not ready to be a father, and neither are you!!”

“Zoro, this was a once in a lifetime chance! I would have never gotten this opportunity again!”

“Then you should have gotten someone else to do it!”

“ I didn’t want someone else! I wont have anyone else!! And there would have never been anyone else because I love you!!”

Zoro shook and tightened his grip again making Luffy struggle.

“You….What you did was totally selfish!!”

“I’m not the selfish one, Zoro! YOU ARE!”

CRACK!!

A gasp rose out as Luffy plummeted to the tile floor with his hand over his stinging cheek. He lay there in shock ignoring Nami and Robin yelling at Zoro, Usopp and Chopper coming to Luffy’s aid, and Sanji’s hand on his shoulder. Tears swelled up in his eyes as he heard Zoro’s boots stomp away and eventually down below the ship.

Tears flew down his face as he clutched himself, trying to will away the aching pain in his chest. He barely noticed that he was being lifted into Sanji’s warm embrace and down to the men’s quarters. He was laid in his hammock and the chef tucked him in as he continued to cry silently. He only acknowledged his assistance as the blonde started to leave.

“Sanji?”

He stopped and turned to his captain.

“What is it, Luffy?”

“…….Do you think what I did was wrong?”

The blonde stepped towards the brunette’s hammock.

“I don’t support the fact that you didn’t tell Zoro about this…but, it’s not your fault. You made this choice and you were right. It was a once in a lifetime chance and you would have never gotten this chance ever again.”

He laid his hand on Luffy’s head, running his fingers through his chocolate locks.

“I’m happy for you, Luffy.”

Said captain sniffed and clutched to the hair in his hair.

“Thank you.” He smiled sweetly at the blonde chef who immediately snuffed out his cigarette. He reached into his pocket pulling out his pack of smokes and flipped them into the trash can.

“None of these until your baby is born….at least not inside anyway.”

Luffy’s eyes sparkled as Sanji made his way to the door.

“And you can be sure to know that your baby will only get the best of meals. I just hope he doesn’t eat like you or we’ll all starve.”
He walked out and closed the door quietly, leaving a sated Luffy grinning into a deep sleep.

* * *

“You’re a bastard, you know that?”

Sanji glared at Zoro as the other pirate guzzled a bottle of booze.

“Shut up, princess.”

“You really hurt Luffy, ya know? All he wanted was a baby with you! You! I can’t see why, but that’s how much he loves you!”

Zoro flung the bottle, ignoring when it shattered and grabbed another.

“You idiot, you’re drunk.”

Zoro pulled off the cork with his teeth and spat it out. Sanji sighed and snatched the bottle away.

“Listen to me, Bakayarou!! Luffy loves you!! And I’m sure he’s had since the day he met you! And here he is, crying his eyes out over the fact that you don’t want the child that you and he created!!”

“URUSEI!!”

It was deathly silent until he finally spoke again, in a faint whisper.

“I don’t deserve it.”

Sanji raised a curled eyebrow at the confession.

“I don’t deserve Luffy, his love, or our child.”

The blonde let out a grated sight as he sat in front of the other man.

“Luffy obviously doesn’t believe that. You’ve always protected him. You’ve watching over him and taken care of him and you’ve loved him! I damn well think you deserve it!”

He watched Zoro put a hand to his face.

“I can’t be the father he wants me to be. I can’t raise a child. I wouldn’t know where to start.”

“And neither would Luffy. That’s why you two have to rely on one another. And you two aren’t along you know.”

Zoro sighed heavily.

“Dear God….I hit him…”

“Yes, you did, you moron.”

Zoro scrunched his face together as if in pain. Sanji ran a hand through his hair.

“If you apologize to Luffy I’m sure he’ll forgive you. And I wouldn’t worry much about anything else. It’ll be ok….just don’t be mad at Luffy…He wanted a baby and he wanted it with you because he loves you, though I can’t see why..”

“……I know….oh God…”

Sanji stood up and clapped a hand on Zoro’s shoulder.

“Just knock off the heavy drinking. I’m attempting to stop smoking so you might as well do the same with that booze of yours.”

He sauntered up the stairs and onto the deck again where you could hear the others talking excitedly about their new arrangements. He could faintly hear Nami squealing about getting to spoil a baby as he cracked his neck.

Rubbing his eyes he made his way towards the sleeping cabin. He opened the door and let light spill into the dark room.

Luffy instantly woke from his sleep as the light hit him. He stiffened slightly as he saw Zoro’s silhouette on the wall.

Zoro walked toward the now awake captain and slowly stripped. Flinging his clothes over towards the laundry hamper he grabbed his black pajamas and slipped them off quietly and quickly. He stepped behind the still form of his lover and held back another sigh.

Luffy bit his lip and was instantly surprised as he felt Zoro climb into the hammock with him. Zoro crawled under the blankets and spooned against his small lover, wrapping his arms around him in the process. He propped his chin on top of Luffy’s soft locks after placing a chaste kiss on Luffy’s neck.

And for that moment, and until that morning, there was peace.
