Chapter 3 - Marked
The girls were all meeting at the arcade for a day of fun. She walked outside to find the weather matched her mood. Winter in Tokyo was as gray and dismal as her world at the moment. It was already misting and probably heading for a downpour. She was nearing the arcade when disaster struck. A speeding car hit a huge puddle and doused her from head to toe.
Standing in shock she found her self soaking wet and muddy. Water dripped down from her head running down the collar of her shirt. Glancing helplessly at her watch she realized that now she was going to be severely late.
“Oi Odango you need to pay more attention.” ‘That voice again.’ She glanced up to see Seiya standing with two other guys she did not know. The other two stared condescendingly with an air of icy disdain.
“Here let me help.” Seiya walked over taking off his coat in the process and set it on her shoulders. “Do you need some help getting home? I can walk with you.” Seiya played the role of gentleman perfectly.
“But…I am supposed to be meeting my friends in the Arcade.” Usagi glanced helplessly in that direction. “They will wonder what happened.”
“I have an idea. Taiki, Yaten come here a moment,” He motioned them over and then continued.
“Could you two please run in the arcade and let Odango’s friends know what happened. Tell them she will be delayed.” He threw them a familiar look and turned away.
“Wait…Seiya, how are we supposed to recognize them?” Yaten chuckled at Seiya’s misfortune and the look on Taiki’s face.
“Oh you will see four girls, a blonde a brunette, a girl with black hair and one with blue hair.” Usagi supplied helpfully. “Minako, Makoto, Rei and Ami, just tell them Usagi, me, will be late. I really appreciate this.”
Taiki and Yaten nodded coolly before heading for the arcade smirking. They had no intention of finding anyone. Seiya wanted her separated from her friends and for the moment they chose to play along.
-----
Seiya picked up Usagi’s hand and turned to glance at her. “Lead on fair maiden.” The faint blush that stole over her cheeks had him smiling.
Not used to such outrageous flirting, Usagi did not know what to do. She walked hating the uncomfortable silence between them.
“So…uh…how long have you lived in Tokyo?” She glanced at him curiously waiting.
“Oh you didn’t know Odango, we just moved here. Yesterday was our first official day of school.” He smiled charmingly and let the silence resume. Wanting her to talk he waited for her to ask something more.
“Do you like it here so far?” She watched her feet, praying she would not have another accident.
Seiya paused at her question thinking rapidly. ‘How do I use this to disarm her? Aha maybe she will show me some sympathy.’ “Well you know, it’s kind of lonely because Taiki and Yaten are the only people I know here other than you of course. We keep running into each other.” He left off there for a moment and watched a slow blush stain her cheeks.
“Odango, can I ask you a question?” He waited until she nodded slowly. “Do you believe in destiny or fate or anything like that?”
The question surprised Usagi and she took a moment to reply. “I am not sure I used to but I am not so sure anymore. Why do you ask?” She glanced at him again with curiosity.
“Well…um…this may sound strange but…” He trailed off a moment and then looked at her shyly before continuing. “We keep, I mean you and I keep running into each other, and I just thought that it seemed strange.”
Usagi nodded before speaking. “I know what you mean I have been wondering why we keep bumping into each other too.”
“Well I kind of thought maybe there was a reason for it.” He looked at her for a moment, releasing her hand and studied her, slowing to a complete standstill. Usagi stood still not understanding his perusal. She saw pure male approval and something else burning in his eyes but did not know what it was. He stepped closer and leaned forward. “I just wonder if there is…any…chemistry…between us.” He slowly kissed her.
Usagi’s heart lurched. His kiss was slow and gentle for the first second and then he increased the pressure. Never touching her he just used his lips to gauge her reaction. She sighed softly and felt herself melting against him. When her hands landed on the softness of his shirt alarms went off in her head.
Backing away she gasped softly at a loss for words. Glancing at him she realized he looked as shocked as she did.
“I guess there is some chemistry between us, Odango.” Picking up her hand he said no more and just began walking again.
When they reached her house she invited him in and he smiled charmingly. ‘Success’ He followed her into the house and waited as she yelled, “Hey I’m home.” No reply came from the quiet house.
“No wonder, I forgot my parents took Shingo on a day trip to some temple outside Tokyo.” She smiled before continuing. “Come on you can wait in my room while I shower.” She led him upstairs and in to her room.
He glanced around appreciatively. “It’s quite nice for pink.” She chuckled nervously and began gathering warm dry clothes.
“I’ll be right back just wait here.” She ran down the hall and into the bathroom shutting the door behind her and clicking the lock. Turning on the shower she quickly stripped and jumped in. Letting the warm water soothe the chill away she hurriedly shampooed her hair not wanting to keep him waiting. As soon as she rinsed it she shut the water off and climbed out.
A frisson of awareness tingled over her flesh. Glancing behind her there was no one there. She had felt as though someone stood right behind her. Dressing quickly she hurried back to her room to find Seiya staring out her window.
“I’m done all I have left to do is fix my hair and then we can go.” He stood unmoving and she just figured he was in a quiet mood.
Seiya stood still in shock. The sight in his mind’s eye was one he would never forget; her lithe body naked draped in hair, drops of water glistening on her dewy skin. The urge to step forward and place his lips against her flesh was almost overwhelming. Her rounded bottom had begged to be touched and her legs, those amazing legs, just seemed to go on forever.
He had vanished mere seconds before she turned around. Reappearing in her bedroom he had walked to the window and stared sightlessly outside. Pulling his wayward body back under control he finally turned back around and saw her seated at her vanity fixing her hair. Glancing around the room again he spotted his little present for her. It still lay lovingly on her pillow where he had placed it.
“Ah a beautiful bloom, roses are my favorite. Did your boyfriend get it for you?” Feigning innocence he asked the question interestedly until he glanced at her. The look of pain that crossed her face was only there for a second almost as if he had imagined it before she replied.
“No…you see I don’t have a boyfriend. Well that is to say, I don’t have one anymore.” A lone tear wandered down her cheek and she ignored it as she fixed her hair.
“What do you mean by anymore, did he die or something?” Seiya glanced at her quizzically wondering. Watching her closely she quickly finished her buns before speaking.
“No he disappeared eight days ago.” Her statement was blunt but the underlying pain in her voice was evident.
The look of shock on Seiya’s face was almost comical. “He disappeared? Are the police looking for him or anything?”
“No he just packed his stuff and left in a taxi. No note, no explanation, and no I’m sorry, no anything, just gone no trace.” Finally the damn broke and her tears fell freely. She dropped her head onto her arms and just let the pain out.
Seiya taking advantage of the situation hurried forward. “Odango…What a shame…I am so sorry if I had known I was going to cause you pain I would never have asked. Come here.”
Usagi stood slowly and stepped forward he gathered her in his arms and let her cry. Rubbing her back and speaking words of comfort he waited until her tears slowed down. Looking down at her he smiled tenderly.
“As I said before what a shame, why would any sane man leave such a beautiful girl behind?” He dipped his head as she glanced up at his words and caught her lips in a gentle kiss. Taking it slow he just grazed her lips and let his hands wander over her back. When she relaxed into his embrace he slowly increased the pressure and nipped at her lower lip. Her hands feathered over his chest feeling the hard planes of his body.
He let his hands wander a bit and gathered her closer. Deepening the kiss she melted against him as her hands wandered up to his shoulders for support. His hands wandered down in ever widening circles and when they dropped below her waist she sighed. As if waking from a dream she backed up breathing heavily.
“Well it’s time to get you back to your friends.” Seiya smiled and glanced at the door. “Ready?” he motioned towards the door. She nodded shyly and walked out of her bedroom. Following her he watched as her hips swayed naturally.
He thought back to the last few minutes. Kissing her had made the urge to take her overwhelming but he knew she wouldn’t be ready. ‘I need the fear to be stronger I guess I will have to frighten her a bit more first before I can convince her.’
They reached the front door and Usagi locked it behind them. As they approached the street he picked up her hand again, smiling at her reassuringly as he did.
“So where are all the places to be in Tokyo?” He asked charmingly trying to get her talking again.
She glanced up at him in surprise. “Well the mall and the arcade and of course the movie theater are all popular, festivals and amusement parks are also cool.” She stopped rambling and trailed off into silence.
“Sometime could you show me around?” Seiya spoke softly with meaning in his voice. Usagi ducked her head and nodded.
“I guess…if it would be okay with your friends. They don’t seem very friendly.” She glanced away not wanting to offer insult.
“Pay them no mind, they are just insecure.” He smirked hoping his friends had heard that part of the conversation. He knew they were using their psychic link he could feel their presence hovering. He decided to use that to his advantage.
“Do you feel like someone is watching us?” his words spoken quietly with a trace of fear. He nearly smiled to the see the look of panic on her face. Usagi glanced behind her and he saw goose bumps rise on her arms.
“You feel it too?” She glanced at him hesitantly before continuing. “Strange things have been having lately.” He glanced at her with a look of genuine interest.
“Really, what sorts of things?” He tried to appear comforting and reassuring hoping she would confide in him.
“Well…like the other day I thought I saw someone watching me at the lake.” She looked away from him fearing his mockery.
“Really did you get a good look at them?” He gently grasped her shoulders turning her to face him.
“Well no because it was foggy and raining. I cannot be sure it was anything, you know.” She glanced at him shyly not sure what to think of his behavior. “Plus I have had things appearing and disappearing when no one is there.”
He watched her feigning concern. “Are you sure Odango? Maybe you should contact the police or something. Could your boyfriend be messing with your mind or something?”
“No…It’s not that…but don’t worry, I am sure I will be fine.” She glanced away afraid to look at him and see pity.
“Hey, I am worried because I would not want anything to happen to you. Here I have an idea.” He pulled a pen out of his pocket and grabbed her hand. Writing carefully he printed his phone number on her palm. “I want you to call me at any time if you are frightened okay?”
She nodded grateful that he wasn’t showing her pity her but taking her worry seriously. Looking up she realized they had reached the arcade.
“Well I had better go in I am sure my friends are seriously upset because of the delay I have caused.” She glanced at him with a small blush. “Thanks for…everything.” Ducking her head she started to turn away and head inside when a hand grasped her wrist and tugged her back.
“You’re welcome Odango.” He leaned forward and softly kissed her keeping contact for just long enough to leave her wanting more. Shocked she glanced at him one last time as he spoke. “I’ll see you later Odango.”
Putting a hand to her lips she turned dazedly and headed into the arcade. Glancing around she was surprised to see her friends nowhere. Walking up the counter she spied Motoki towards the back hefting a tub of ice towards the machine.
“Hey Motoki-oniisan have the girls been here today?” She smiled at his surprised look.
“Yeah they were here for a bit but when you didn’t show they went on without you. They mentioned that you have been depressed? Is that true Usagi-chan?” He glanced at her with worry in his eyes.
Sighing softly Usagi decided to be honest. “Yeah it comes and goes, with Mamoru’s disappearance things have changed.” She smiled hoping he was able to understand.
He nodded before coming around the counter. “I know Usagi-chan, I understand.” Setting his hands on her shoulders he pulled her into a comforting hug.
------
Three pairs of eyes watched through the window. When Seiya’s hand clenched in rage the other two reacted. “Calm down, he just looks at her as a little sister, besides you are not her boyfriend and have no reason to be jealous.” Yaten’s green eyes mocked him with the same intensity as his words.
“She is mine whether she knows it or not.” Seiya ripped the words out trying to hold onto his temper. “I want you two to warn her away from me.” Green eyes and amethyst eyes both jumped to his blue ones in shock.
“Why would you want us to do that?” Taiki asked hesitantly wondering what game Seiya was playing.
“It will send her running to me.” Seiya’s arrogant smirk belied his words.
Taiki and Yaten both laughed. “You must not realize our powers of intimidation eh? Okay we will do it just to prove you wrong. When she leaves the arcade you will see our power at work.” Taiki couldn’t pass up a chance for him and Yaten to be intimidating. It was rather fun after all, evoking fear in humans.
“Ah here she comes now you stay put and let us do our thing.” Yaten glanced at Seiya once more before continuing, “and no interruptions please.”
------
Usagi wandered out of the arcade. Motoki had tried really hard to cheer her up even going so far as giving her a free shake. The thought had her smiling as she reached the street.
“Oi Odango,” She turned around at the unfamiliar voice. Glancing behind her she was surprised to see Seiya’s two friends.
She smiled hesitantly wondering why they sought her out. “Hey hi…you guys are Seiya’s friends right?” She tried being friendly to soften both of their cruel stares.
“We wanted to let you know that we couldn’t find your friends.” Yaten sneered as the words left his mouth.
“Yeah and we have a request for you.” Taiki glared at the young girl before continuing. “We want you to stay away from Seiya he doesn’t need trouble like you causing him problems.”
“What…what are you saying?” Usagi glanced confused from one face to the other.
“We are saying stay away from Seiya or else…we will make your life very difficult!” Yaten sounded menacing intentionally. When they saw the tears prick her eyes they were unmoved. ‘This is going to be easier than we thought’ Taiki was already mentally congratulating himself.
“Seiya doesn’t strike me as the type of person who would want his so-called friends interfering in his life like that.” Usagi tried to sound calm but she was shaking like a leaf. “I’ll be sure and let him know that you tried to intimidate me.”
Taiki and Yaten stared in shock this was not what they expected from the little helpless girl. “You would be wise to think twice before doing that.” Taiki tried for threatening and sent out waves of fear as he took an aggressive step in her direction. They both smiled when the fear overwhelmed her and her eyes widened as she began to visibly shake. They turned and strolled away laughing with success.
-----
Seiya listened unmoved he hoped Usagi would react as he expected. Sucking in a breath he waited until she spoke. Hearing her words of rebellion he smiled knowing there was steel underneath her soft exterior. Hearing Taiki and Yaten’s last words and laughter he waited a few minutes before appearing and strolling in her direction.
