Silence of The Wolf

Chapter Three




The carts began to slow down, forming a half circle. Kagome waited before doing anything, wanting to make sure that the humans were all together before making her move. Their safety would come first, she spoke to the few in the cart with her. \"Once we are all together spread the word for everyone to stand together and not to move if they value their lives. They will be safe as long as they stay put, got it?\" The woman nodded her head along with the others.

\"What should I do?\" Shizuru could fight some but if too many got on her she\'d get into trouble. The thought of leaving all the work up to Kagome didn\'t sit well with her. The two men just looked at them as if they\'d lost their minds. Not that she could blame them, the small girl was planning on going against almost fifty youkai alone.

\"Keep them together, make sure no one tries to run.\" She waited for them to nod, seeing the two men did nothing but look. They were on their own as far as she was concerned. The youkai went straight for the few corpses in the first cart, pulling them out. Blood could be smelt as they tore at the decomposing flesh. The boy began crying into the man\'s lap seeing his parents being torn apart. Anger filled her as she watched them shoving the meat in the mouths. Only half began to eat while the remainder got the humans out. They were lead to sit along the ground in front of the carts, most of them huddled together in their fear. The word was spread, most were too scared to even move to begin with.

She waited until most of them were together before moving, everyone else close together. \"Shizuru, if I don\'t make it you can
have my D.V.D. player. The barrier will keep them away, they won\'t be able to get through.\" Kagome concentrated, her power
flared through the collar. It fell to the ground, smoldering as the leather wilted. That got the attention she wanted, they began to turn to her. She walked away from the small group of humans wanting to be out of the barrier.

Shizuru ran to her side, \"Don\'t think I\'m going to let you have all the fun. I may not be able to toast them but I can kick some ass. Ready when you are girl.\" She saw the youkai starting to stand, some kept on eating not worrying about them. One belched then laughed at them. \"I think he just laughed at us.\"

\"Yes, he\'s going to be the first to get hurt.\" Kagome felt a hand land on her arm, she turned to see the tall arrogant man, his chains were broken. They were both on their feet, all the chains broken. So they weren\'t average humans either, good for them. \"If you are going to help, stay out of my way.\" He merely laughed at her comment, did he find her amusing?

\"If you say so little girl. What can you possibly do? We might as well help since you are going to go through with this escape of yours.\" Saitou felt some relief from the quick laugh, she looked so fragile yet stood there as if she didn\'t have a scared bone in her body.

\"Get back with the others all of you, don\'t make me kill you ahead of schedule.\" One youkai walked up to them, weapon drawn.

\"You just lucked up, you\'ll be the first to be fucked up.\" Kagome brought her palm up facing the youkai. The blast caught him across the face, his skin melted seconds before turning into ash. The other youkai scrambled to attention at the sight and the surge of power. They ran for her, most showing their claws. Her aura flared spreading out around them, the two men jumped out of the way. Shizuru ran over to an oncoming youkai, her foot connected with his jaw. Screams were heard as the purification energy lashed out, burning those it touched.

The young boy screamed as a youkai jumped at them planning on taking all the humans out. It collided into the barrier dissolving on impact. \"Don\'t move we\'re safe in here.\" The woman shouted, seeing the proof with her own eyes. Kagome turned to see both men now with weapons in hand. They were very fast for humans and deadly with the blades they carried. One came for her, she was quick to take it down. The head landed at her feet, the body gone.

Shizuru punched the one that grabbed her arm, his teeth came down going for her neck. A blade tore through his head, blood squirted her in the face. She gasped in shock, the body fell to the ground. The tall man in the trenchcoat stood beside her, his borrowed sword coated with blood. \"Thanks, I guess. Kagome!\" She turned to see the girl was being surrounded by the remaining thirty youkai, all going for the miko\'s blood.

\"The jewel, I can sense it. She\'s using the power of the shikon jewel.\" All eyes were on her now, the jewel began to glow within her chest.

\"Great,\" She could feel the pulsing deep in her chest. They were going to rush her, would she be able to handle all of them? She never got to find out, her sight was soon covered by two pair of broad shoulders. Her eyes widened in surprise, both men stood ready to attack. \"What the hell?\" What were they doing getting in her way? They were trying to protect her? Shizuru was standing next to her also.

\"You guys can stay, I\'m not dying here.\" One took off, soon to be followed by almost half. The remaining decided to take their chances, the power of the jewel calling them. Kagome didn\'t move from her spot, both girls watched while they were cut down.

\"Wow, they\'re pretty good.\" Shizuru lit another cigarette, placing a hand on her hip. \"Not bad at all. The taller one has a great ass too, did you see it?\" She saw Kagome blush at the statement and laughed. Some of the tension was easing from their shoulders. She watched in awe, maybe she should ask them to teach her bro how to weild a sword properly.

\"Leave it to you to be checking them out at a time like this. I was more worried about becoming someone\'s dinner. How the hell did you see his ass with that long coat on?\" Kagome cocked her head, watching him move. \"Aww, okay. Got a glimpse that time, you\'re right. He does have a round tush under there. Uhh, what am I doing? This isn\'t the time to be oggling a man no matter how cute he is.\"

Saitou put the sword down, dropping it on the ground. He was surprised none of them had been killed in the fight. Not to mention the ability of the small girl. Was she some type of witch or holy woman? He had his suspicions with the language coming from her mouth. Now he and Aoshi would have to figure out how to get out of here and back to that well. The small boy ran up to him, latching on his leg. The kid was still crying hysterically, soaking his thigh in the process. \"Someone want to get him off me?\"

\"Nope, have a heart his parents are dead. We will have to bury them and then try to get back to the Ningenkai.\" Kagome walked over to the first cart, the scared humans now standing up. Her search took her to find the source, a sword. She pulled it out looking the hilt over, the eye. Her hand went to it, a ward crackled around her hand. \"Dammit, what kind of ward is this?\"

\"Thats mine, I suggest you hand it over.\" Saitou walked over to her, hand extended. She was staring at his sword, she handed it over waiting for something. He sheathed it and looked her over, her mouth hung open. \"You look like a fish.\" Her mouth closed at the comment. She couldn\'t be over five feet tall, her body was slender but filled out. He had to admit she was very attractive even covered in blood. Her hair hung past her waist, a slight wave could be seen. Her blue eyes gazed up at him. He felt something inside him stir as he stared back into the depths.

Kagome didn\'t break the eye contact, returning the favor. So he was checking her out, two could play that game. He had to be atleast six feet in height, very slim. His movements spoke of someone being very agile and in shape. Only a few strands of his black hair hung in his face giving him a sinister look. His features looked to be chiseled in stone, he almost looked harsh. His eyes are what disturbed her, they were amber in color. She didn\'t think it was possible for a human to have that color of eyes, not naturally anyways. They were intense and cool, as if he were trying to look deep in her soul.

\"I\'d hate to break up the staring contest but do you think it\'s safe yet? I really need to find a bush.\" Shizuru smiled, begining to squirm. Her bladder was screaming for release, she was going to pee her pants if she didn\'t do something soon. At Kagome\'s nod she ran off to find a bush. She blushed when the other man walked behind her staying a few feet behind. \'How sweet.\' He stopped in order to give her some privacy. After relieving herself she felt alot better, her stomach no longer killing her.

Shizuru walked from behind the bush, the man was looking away. She\'d always considered herself tall for a female, this man had to be over six feet by a few inches. His shoulders were wide, his thighs looked thick also. She caught herself drooling and pulled it together. Kagome was right it wasn\'t the time for such thoughts. \"So what\'s the plan?\"

Kagome turned to look at her, \"Well, I think first we need to find a way back to the human world and out of here. Got any ideas Shizuru?\" She\'d deal with the problem of the jewel shard after everyone was safe and back home. Unlike some she had her priorities straight, these people came first. Seemed no one could sense that it was a jewel shard in the hilt and she couldn\'t get to it. A problem best saved for later.

\"Yeah, Hiei and the others are suppose to be patrolling the borders for any humans that accidently cross over. With the new treaty in effect, these youkai were breaking it. I\'m sure if we can get ourselves noticed by the right youkai, we\'ll get sent home. Hiei has a jagan so he might be able to pick up on a strong power surge and come investigate. How high can you make your power go?\" Shizuru saw the confusion pass through the two sets of eyes.

\"I\'m not sure, I\'ve never really tapped into the jewel before. I could give it a try and see what happens, it may be our best bet.\" Kagome walked putting some distance between them. If this was a way to get them saved she\'d give it a good try. Her luck every youkai within sensing distance would come running for her and the jewel. She frowned at the thought, that would suck for damn sure. Taking a deep breath and concentrating like Kaede had shown her she focused her power. The pink aura flared to life surrounding the air around her, leaping up like flames.

\"That\'s it girl, keep it coming.\" Shizuru watched the flames rise, even the two men seemed to feel something coming from the girl. It was amazing the energy she was letting off, all centered around one small girl. Hiei would have to feel it, not to mention the other S class youkai. Hopefully, Reikai would be alerted to their presence and a team sent to help.



\"There, something is that way.\" Hiei jumped down off the large bug. Yusuke and Kuwabara soon followed, Kurama was already up ahead. \"I can sense them now, a bunch of humans have been snuck in. It\'s seems not everyone is happy with their new ruler. Don\'t worry Kuwabara, your sister is there.\"

\"I\'m coming for you sis,\" Kuwabara started running off in the direction Kurama and Yusuke had just went. Relief filled him knowing that he\'d soon be able to rescue his sister. They\'d been searching for almost two days now with no sign of her or her roomie. She could take care of herself against most humans but being in a world full of youkai was something all together. Enki was in a meeting with Koenma along with Yomi and Mukuro. They had been afraid something like this would happen. A black market had opened up with humans as the main item. None of the humans that had been taken so far had returned alive. It had left the group with dread believing that one of their friends would never be seen again.

Hiei was pissed that somehow they\'d been getting their captives past the border patrol somehow. Up until now he couldn\'t sense any humans in the area. It didn\'t make any sense unless they were using something to cover up the humans. The prospects didn\'t bode well, for them or the Ningenkai. It also made it look like he was slacking in his duties, which he didn\'t appreciate. He\'d make sure to kill them slow and painfully for the insult. The mastermind behind the smuggling ring would be dealt with in a much more intense manner. Not that he cared about the humans, it would be for insulting him.

He ran along side Kurama, the fox was just as worried as Kuwabara it would seem. Hiei wasn\'t surprised, the fox seemed overly fond of the fool\'s sister. She might be pretty but nothing to get excited over in his opinion. He stopped in his tracks when he felt the surge of power. \"What the hell is that?\" It was intense, stronger than anything he\'d ever felt. Surely, there wasn\'t any youkai in the Makai that could emit that huge power source. No, it was something else entirely, the energy felt pure.

Kurama saw the large group of humans standing around a fire, huddled together. He\'d been expecting to have to fight to free the humans. What he saw made him break out in laughter. Shizuru was standing next to a tall man smoking. His eyes spotted the girl making the energy signal. Her aura spoke volumes, no wonder they weren\'t needed. \"It seems we\'ve come too late.\"

Shizuru looked over and smiled. \"Hey Kurama, how\'s my favorite redhead? Yeah sorry, those that didn\'t run are dead. Down guys, he\'s with me.\" She saw Aoshi and Saitou go for their weapons, ready to strike at the new arrivals. Hiei landed next to the fox glaring at all the humans, disbelief on his features.

\"Are you telling me we came all this way for nothing?\" He looked over at the two men, their postures stated they were ready for another fight. Fools, there was no way they could have done the damage he saw. \"Do you mind informing us what you all are doing here?\"

\"We got kidnapped you idiot.\" Kagome turned on him, taking her anger out on the small man. Saitou was refusing to let her see the sword now. Dammit she wanted to see if she could get the shard from the hilt. \"We sure the hell didn\'t all decide to go on a nature walk, shorty.\" She snorted then turned back to the man who\'d caused her anger. He was staring at her with a bored expression on his face. Like she bored him! A good swift kick in the shin was what he needed. Or one in the nutts! \"Give me it damn you, I just want to look at it. It\'s not like I\'m going to try and gut you with it. Though the thought has crossed my mind, now hand it over stupid.\"

\"You are annoying, go sit down girl before I use it on you.\" Saitou leaned against the cart and eyed the new arrivals. Two more men joined the pair already there. Something told him that all four were dangerous, maybe even for him. The taller girl seemed to know them, possibly the calvary had arrived. Now he would be able to get out of this hellhole and find a way home. An ear piercing scream caused his ear drums to wince in pain.

\"YOU\'RE SUCH A JERK! Next time I\'ll let you two die, see if I save your sorry ass again.\" Kagome crossed her arms and turned her back to the insufferable man. What was his problem anyways? It wasn\'t like she was going to run off with it. She just wanted the jewel out of the eye. Stingy old bastard, he needed to learn how to share.

\"Hey bro, I see you\'re late as usual.\" Shizuru inhaled the smoke and eyed Kuzuma. \"Good thing I didn\'t wait for you to get here and rescue me. I would have been lunch by now.\" She saw his fallen expression and laughed at the group. It was good to see them all again. It meant going home, her short trip over with. \"Hopefully, we didn\'t get fired.\"

\"I can\'t believe you, you were kidnapped and you are worrying about losing your job.\" Kuzuma yelled at her. Just like his sister to make light of the situation. This was serious, humans were being taken from the Ningenkai. He\'d known this truce thingy wouldn\'t last that long. He\'d have to start locking his windows at night.

\"Somehow I don\'t see you paying my bills for me, so damn right I\'m worried. Me and Kagome need a place to live once we get back.\" She flicked the butt at his feet, her stomach growled. \"So are we going to stand here all day or we going home. What about all these people?\"

\"Their memories will be wiped and then sent home of course. Our transport will be here momentarily, then we will leave.\" Hiei looked over at all the humans, then back at the noisey girl. She was grumbling under her breath then her head snapped up.

\"Excuse me?\" Kagome peered at him, did he just say something about a memory wipe? There was no way in hell he could be allowed to wipe her memory. Even if it was possible she wouldn\'t allow it. That\'s all she needed to forget who she was, then have some youkai attack her. \"I don\'t think so buddy, you aren\'t coming anywhere near my mind. I\'m sure all them would be happy to forget this but you aren\'t playing with mine. Oh, and I don\'t think you can erase those two\'s either. Not unless you can travel in time also and make sure they got home okay. I didn\'t think so.\" She smirked at his confused expression.

\"What on earth are you going on about?\" Kurama spoke before Hiei could comment at her rudeness. \"How about you tell us exactly who you are and how did everyone get here?\" He\'d never seen the girl before but Shizuru and Kuwabara seemed to know who she was. The two men also seemed out of place for some reason.

\"Is everyone okay?\" A portal opened up, as two people stepped out. Koenma was followed by Enki both looked extremely pissed. He saw Shizuru and gave a sigh of relief, things would have been bad if she\'d been killed. He nodded in her direction and smiled in acknowledgement. His former team was standing to his left, he merely glanced their way having already spoken to them. His eyes almost popped out his head while his jaw dropped in astonishment. \"Holy hell, what are you doing here Higurashi?\"

Kagome turned to man, it took a minute for her to recognize him. It was that Koenma guy again, what was he doing here? She remembered him only after meeting him the one time. It had been the day after she\'d returned home, her trip complete. He\'d congratulated her on completing her destiny and coming back with the jewel intact. He\'d tried to explain who he was and why he was there. She hadn\'t really payed attention to the little shit, too upset about all that had happened. All she\'d gotten was that he was someone important and was bothering her. The JR. on his forehead was a dead give-away, even if he\'d hit puberty. \"Oh, it\'s the little shit again. How\'s it going? I see you hit puberty finally. So have you gotten your first pube yet?\"

\"Still bitter I see, not surprising but now isn\'t the time for it. Now do you mind answering the question? This isn\'t the time for making jokes either.\" He frowned trying not to blush. Snickers could be heard coming from his former group and at his expense no less. The girl was going to be a handful it seemed. \"Fine just answer me this, where is the jewel?\"

\"Why aren\'t I surprised?!! I should have known you weren\'t worried about my well being. No one ever is, the only thing that has ever mattered is the jewel. Well, since it\'s so important, it\'s fine and still in my possession. They didn\'t get it okay, are you happy now?\" Stupid little toddler trying to play grown up. He could have atleast asked how she was. After all her life had been in danger, they hadn\'t even known about the jewel until the end. She turned and walked off feeling unimportant once more in her short miserable life.

\"Good going, you idiot.\" Shizuru yelled at him seeing the hurt expression on her friend\'s face. \"I swear, you could haven\'t been more insulting. Oh yeah before I go see to Kagome. These two men here came through the well a couple days ago, you might want to see about getting them back to their own time.\" Not waiting for the many questions from everyone she ran off to see about her friend.

Koenma groaned, what the hell was going on? First, there was news of this illegal blackmarket. Now he had two men that had happened upon the well? \"Great, my day couldn\'t get any worse. Hiei take the rest of the humans to be taken back and dealt with. These two men will be staying here with me along with the two girls.\" The fire youkai snorted but did as he was told. Koenma frowned when a small boy ran up to one of the men holding onto his leg for dear life. \"Who does this boy belong to?\"

\"The two corpses over there.\" Saitou had a feeling he was about to get his answers. The boy had a death grip on his leg refusing to let go. Small cries could be heard when another woman came to take him. \"What are you going to do with him? His parents are dead, so if you plan on erasing his memories you better wipe out his whole life. Don\'t think he\'d understand it if his parents just up and disappeared on him one day. It would scar him for life, better be careful on how you deal with it.\"

\"Yes, I suppose you are right.\" Koenma knelt down to look at the child. \"Do you have any family left?\" The boy didn\'t answer, but turned his head planting it in the man\'s crotch. \"Very well, I\'ll find out who he is before doing anything with him. Now may I ask who you two are?\"

Koenma almost fell over once again that day. He recognized both names immediately, there was a few cases he\'d worked on that had left him shaken. He waited for the other humans to be taken away before addressing the two men. \"I hate to inform you two but you are dead.\" He heard several gasps from everyone around them. \"Well, in a manner of speaking you no longer exist. Let me explain a few things so you understand. Over four hundred years ago the Ningenkai and the Makai weren\'t divided. The worlds of the youkai and humans weren\'t split. The barrier was placed between the worlds, almost all youkai were trapped in the Makai. So during your time, a little over a century ago during the war there wasn\'t many youkai running around the Ningenkai. Your names are known to me for one reason, not only due to your recognition during the war. But due to a case that I worked on. A youkai had escaped into the human world once again. This particularly youkai gained the ability to open a portal on it\'s own, very powerful. It killed many humans before we caught up to it. The day before we found it, there was a large brutal slaying outside of Tokyo. Next to the Bone Eater\'s well to be exact, the well you two went through. All we found were body parts scattered about the area. This youkai not only ate flesh but devoured the souls of it\'s victims. Death reports were filed for the troops that had been there when the assualt took place. Your men Saitou, it was them that were slaughtered. The report said they were there with you and Aoshi that day investigating a murder. Seems the youkai was coming back to collect one of it\'s victims, your men happened to be there. If you two hadn\'t gone through the well, you\'d have died along with those men. Don\'t bother trying to speak differently. As good as you two are in battle, you can\'t fight if you don\'t have a soul. Your files have been closed for over a century, you are dead in the past ever since that day. I\'m not sure why the well let you two pass but there is no going back for either of you. History has it you two died in the line of duty, it can\'t be changed.\"

\"So what the hell are we suppose to do?\" Aoshi spoke taking in all he\'d said. Who was this guy anyways? \"Who the hell are you for that matter? Why should we believe anything you have to say?\"

\"I am Koenma, ruler of the Reikai. It is also refered to as the Spirit World, where you will go when you die. I speak the truth, I think after everything you\'d seen today you wouldn\'t doubt there is more to this world than you\'d originally believed. You two have traveled across time to end up in the future. Of course you used the well that Kagome had used in her journeys. We believed it had lost it\'s powers years ago. Why it chose to activate letting you two through is beyond me. Now I guess we will have to figure out somewhere to put you for now.\" Koenma heard Yusuke\'s laughter, it iritated him.

\"You\'re really saying that those two guys are from the past? Come on Koenma even I\'m not stupid enough to fall for that one.\" He snorted and threw his hands behind his head. Shame they\'d came for nothing, go figure Shizuru would rescue her own damn self.

\"You don\'t have to believe anything Yusuke. These men and I both know when they were born and of what we speak. You just stand back there, shut your mouth and try to look cool.\" He turned to look at the two girls coming back, Kagome still looked pissed. \"Now to deal with something more pressing. Are you done with your fit Kagome?\"

\"No, I\'m not. You just be a good boy and leave me alone before you make me angry. Insufferable little snot, go figure you only
care about one thing. Now how do I get back home?\" She crossed her arms, it was time to get the hell out of this place. She needed a hot shower then a hot meal. Crashing on her queen size bed also sounded like heaven at the moment.

\"You can go home shortly. Mind if I ask where it is?\" He needed to see that it was safe before allowing her to go. His father would skin him if the jewel was allowed to roam free in the Makai.

\"Fine but you asked for it.\" She undid the buttons of her shirt and flashed him. Several eyes opened wide along with a few gasps were heard. Everyone was getting a good view of her black lace bra, \"It\'s in my chest, it went back inside after I was taken for some reason. Don\'t ask me why or I\'ll deck you one.\"

\"Is that the one I got you for your birthday?\" Shizuru eyed the bra, knowing that all the men were too stunned to speak. Leave it to her Kagome to cause a scene. She couldn\'t blame the girl though. Not when she knew everything, she wouldn\'t have been as polite about it. \"Looks good on you. Got the matching thongs on?\"

\"Yep!\" She turned around and pulled on the back of her jeans to reveal the top of the panties. \"Nice fit but they keep riding into my ass crack. Sucks to have a wedgie when you are trying to kill a youkai.\"

\"She\'s been hanging around you too long Sis, she\'s starting to act like you. Come on, stop flashing us Kagome. Going to give the guys a heart attack. Sheesh, I swear you two are embarrassing, you know that. Can\'t take you anywhere these days.\" Kuwabara kept his eyes on the ground until he knew it was safe.

\"Fine,\" She tried to hide the smile, seeing she\'d finally shut the toddler up. Everyone else was still staring at her like she\'d grown another head. Images of going as far as picking her nose came to mind. Not like they\'d never seen a bra before or thongs for that matter. Some girls wore more revealing things at the beach now adays. Her eyes landed on Saitou, \'Oh yeah that\'s right. They wouldn\'t know what a bra was or a thong. Oops guess they just got a show.\' Her shirt was closed while the males got ahold of their wits.

\"So have you figured out what to do with those two?\" Shizuru asked. It wasn\'t her place but she was curious. They had helped out in the battle. The Aoshi guy had also saved her life so she had to be grateful. What if they couldn\'t go back home? What would happen to them?

\"Well, they are stuck here I\'m afraid. I will have to find a place for them and see how well they can adjust to a life in this era. Genkai may allow them to stay at the temple for awhile. It wouldn\'t hurt to ask.\"

\"How is that going to help them to adjust? Grandma lives out in the boonies, hope they love nature.\" Yusuke laughed, he wouldn\'t want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere with just the old hag for the rest of his life.

\"Well, Kagome and I have a three bedroom apartment. They could always crash at our place until you can find something better for them. While you look for a place, I\'m sure everyone will pitch in and help them out.\" Shizuru threw out the option, not sure how the two men would take the offer. It wasn\'t them that spoke but her brother.

\"Wait a minute Sis, you can\'t have some strange man coming home with you. It\'s indecent, you were raised better than that.\" Kuwabara yelled at her.

\"Listen bro, need I remind you that I happen to be a grown woman and I live on my own. I could bring a strange man home, lie him on the kitchen table then proceed to eat chocolate syrup off his naked body if I choose to. You have no say in the matter.\" Shizuru shut him up with the comment.

\"Well, I would have to object to that now. And since you live with me, I do get a say-so in the matter. You better use the whipcream because I use the syrup for my icecream.\" Kagome giggled at the shocked expressions around them. \"There\'s also the honey you bought and never used I might add. And remember to put the plastic table cloth I bought down.\"

\"Jeez, and I thought Kurama was the kinky one in the group. What have you been hiding from us Shizuru?\" Yusuke laughed along with the older girl. Kuwabara\'s face was turning green, Kurama was hiding a deep blush.

\"Alright that is enough you two. These men aren\'t use to things in this era. They will no doubt learn that things have changed greatly. Do you two agree to Shizuru\'s offer? It will give you a place to stay until we can figure something out. I have other matters of greater importance to deal with first.\"

\"Actually, if the two young ladies don\'t mind I\'d like for them to continue. I find the conversation to be most appealing.\" Enki rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Maybe they could help him with ideas to work on his lovely wife.
