Farewell at Sunrise

Disclaimer:

I don\'t own Saiyuki, just wish I did.

Okay, my original little one shot had turned into a three chapter. I think this will be about it for these two for now- but I\'m starting to have ideas about another story arc. If any of you have any suggestions as to where I could take this- they are welcome!

This chapter will hopefully have a different flavor than the last. I\'m going for something just a little more fluffy (but not too much.) Just a little after dinner mint to wrap up the meal.

As always- review review review!

CHAPTER 3

The first thing Hakkai became aware of was the raging ache in his neck. The second thing he was aware of was the source of said ache. Sometime after the two had fallen asleep both the dragons had decided to join them. When Hakkai\'s eyes fluttered open he found himself looking not at the ceiling of a cave, but at the underside of a huge white wing. Kougaiji\'s sleep didn\'t seem to be too disturbed by being squished between the large body of the flying dragon and Hakkai. His head was still settled in the crook of Hakkai\'s shoulder.

The source of the neck ache however, was Hakuryu. He had taken up residence in the space between Hakkai\'s neck and shoulder and had somehow pushed his head into an awkward angle without waking him up. He must have laid like that for hours because he had to twist his neck and snap it to relieve some of the tension.

Everything was dead quiet. The wind had settled and a dirty light was filtering into the caves entrance. It didn\'t do that good of a job of lighting things up, but it was enough to define the contours of the cave and let Hakkai get some of his bearings. It must have been barely dawn.

Hakkai wormed his hand up between himself and the warm body thrust against his neck and gently pushed the little dragon out. Hakuryu wasn\'t too happy to be disturbed, but Hakkai supposed it served him right for the pain in his neck.

He turned his attention back to the demon nestled between his body and that of the larger dragon. It took Hakkai a few moments before memories of the night before swam back into his consciousness. Kou snored lightly, still deeply asleep. His long tendrils of hair splayed out over Hakkai\'s arm. His cheek, the one with the markings, rested lightly against Hakkai\'s chest. The clawed hand rested beside it.
Hakkai had a strange feeling of unreality, looking at the man sleeping in his arms. It felt like he had fallen into a different reality, like the twilight zone or something. It just didn\'t make sense for him to wake up with Gyumoah\'s son resting his sleeping cheek against his chest.

Tentatively, he reached over with his other arm and caressed the soft face of Kougaiji. It was amazing how soft the resilient skin of a demon was. This wasn\'t one of those ugly lower youkai that Hakkai despised and was disgusted by- the ones he killed without second thought. This creature was different- as Goku and Gojyo were different. This one, he didn\'t think he could kill if he wanted to any more.

This one had found a place in his heart.

Hakkai put his palm over his face and cursed himself. What had he been thinking? He really believed he was capable of a casual one night stand? Did he really think he could walk away from that wild night and leave it at that?

“I\'m such an idiot, Hakuryu,” he whispered to the dragon.”I\'m incapable of having sex with someone without falling in love with them aren\'t I?”

He looked back down at Kou\'s face. Then, with infinite care, he shifted around the sleeping form and kissed him delicately. Sleepy violate eyes with heavy reddish lashes fluttered open. Kou looked at him through a haze of sleep for just a moment before he closed his eyes and shifted his position.

“Another five minutes Yaone,” he mumbled. Hakkai laughed out loud at that and kissed him again. Kou turned back into him and his eyes didn\'t open as Hakkai planted delicate kisses down his neck.

Hakkai began arranging Kougaiji to his liking, getting him flat on his back and pulling his knees apart. Kougaiji seemed to be only half awake and was pliant in Hakkai\'s hands. Disturbed, the flying dragon rose up and stretched, leaving the two to their activities. Hakuryu left with him, the two dragons leaving the cave together.

The passage of the dragon left Hakkai more vulnerable to the cold drafts of the cave and Hakkai realized how much warmth the dragons had provided. The fire had long since burned itself out.

Hakkai pulled the blankets up over himself and settled himself between Kougaiji\'s thighs.

Kougaiji moaned lightly, but his eyes didn\'t open again until Hakkai went into him. He was still slick inside from last night and there was much less resistance. Strong limbs wrapped themselves around Hakkai\'s waist and neck and he rocked inside of Kougaiji. Kou emitted that purring sound Hakkai had become so fascinated with.

He kissed and licked at Kougaiji\'s face and neck, then finally settled his face into that area where his neck joined his shoulder. His long pointed ear brushed Hakkai\'s cheek with his movements. The earring was a cool touch in the midst of Kou\'s warm flesh.

Hakkai wrestled his arm under the small of Kou\'s back and tried his best to angle for that sweet spot he knew was there. When he found it he was rewarded with a low moan and a tightening of the limbs holding onto his. Hakkai pushed into that spot again and again, relishing how his name sounded in Kou\'s voice. Hakkai could sense when Kou was about to climax so he began to quicken his pace, intending to use it to his advantage. It was perfect. When the demon lord\'s body clenched about him, Hakkai was ready and came along with him.

“Beautiful,” Hakkai murmured, pulling out of him and lying along side him again. Hakkai stroked Kougaiji\'s cheek and kissed him one more time. Amazingly Kou, although he was smiling and making small noises of contentment, still didn\'t seem entirely awake. Hakkai had to wonder how often people decided to screw the demon lord in his sleep that it didn\'t seem to entirely wake him up.

He had made one hell of a sticky mess out of them. Between the urgent activities of the night before and those of this morning there wouldn\'t be much denying of this tryst before he\'d had a good shower.

Hakkai rose and wrapped Kougaiji up in the blankets. The demon was already snoring again as Hakkai slipped about the cave, retrieving his clothing and packing up his groceries. He\'d already decided he was going to need to go back to town to replace whatever he had figured he had lost the day before.

Then, once he had everything together he stepped outside of the cave into a new day and a new reality.

Hakkai looked for the dragons. He located them up at the top of the cliff face that housed what he considered to be his and Kou\'s cave. The scene took his breath away. Dust storms, he knew, kicked tons of particles up into the atmosphere. The beauty of the resultant sunrise over the cliff face was breathtaking. The two white dragons sat facing the rising sun- pastel pink and gold against the angry pink of the sky beyond. Their heads were thrown back and wings extended to catch the early warmth from the rising sun. When he stepped back from the shadow of the cliff the sun kissed Hakkai\'s face.

Kougaiji came to himself quite suddenly. When Hakkai had woken him, in such a sweet way, Kou hadn\'t really been aware of his surroundings. A short time after his lover had risen, reality smacked into Kou\'s head like a slap to his face and he sat bolt upright with a cry.

He stared about himself, blinking out the sleep. He was really quite gross. Hakkai had made far more of a mess of him than Hakkai had received. Whats more, his blankets were pretty nasty and it would not be easy to have them cleaned without raising some eyebrows. If he cleaned them himself, it would be suspicious, but not nearly so as it would be if someone else got a whiff of them. Hell, even delivering them himself to the laundry girls would probably call attention.
Kou cleaned himself off the best he could. It didn\'t take long to note that Hakkai\'s shit was gone and he wondered if the slayer had already fled. The sun was up, he had stayed to long as it is. He most certainly did not want to be found here with Hakkai like this. It would just be too damn obvious what had went on and he didn\'t think he could look Dokugakuji or Yaone in the eyes if they knew.

He supposed Hakkai had something similar at stake and that made him feel assured of his continuing silence if they could just both cover this up.

Where the hell was that dragon?

Kou stumbled out into the morning light and located Hakkai. He breathed a sigh. He really didn\'t like the idea of waking up alone with Hakkai gone, a secret formed, and one last opportunity to engage in their little fantasy one last time.

Hakkai was staring up into the sky. Some of the dirt from the dust storm still clung to them and it gave the strange illusion to Hakkai that he had been crying in the way it streaked across his face. He stood looking up the cliff face and didn\'t seem to react to Kougaiji\'s approach.

Kou slipped up beside him and wrapped his arms around his body, and looked up in the direction Hakkai was. Kou drew his breath in in a hiss as he gazed at the vista before them.

“Beautiful morning, isn\'t it?” Hakkai asked.

“Yeah. I don\'t think I remember ever seeing a sunrise quite like this.”

“Its from the dust storm. Amazing how something so beautiful can come from something so frightening,” Hakkai said.

Kou tightened his grip on Hakkai and ran his lips past the nape of his neck, nuzzling his nose into the hairline.

“It just goes to show we can never tell what fate will bring us.”

A hand came up to cover Kou\'s. “No, we never can tell. There are just so many things I don\'t understand.”

Then Kou\'s arms stiffened about Hakkai and then Kou was gone, running towards the cliff face.

“SHIT SHIT SHIT!” he was cursing. Quickly, he scooped up a small rock and chucked it in the direction of the perching dragons. “You fools!” he cried ,”Get the hell down from there!”

Hakkai was startled at first. Then he glared at Kougaiji angrily, the moment forgotten for the time being.

“What the hell are you doing?”

A second rock hit the rock face feet below the dragons and they took notice, sq waking and flapping as they dislodged from the face.

When the dragons began to drop from their heights Kou relaxed. “God damn it.”

Hakkai\'s angry green eyes flashed, suddenly very close. Kou hadn\'t heard him come up behind him and it was mildly unnerving how quiet the slayer could be.

“It\'s not nice to throw rocks at helpless animals.”

Kou blinked at him, not used to having his actions questioned much. “Doku is probably looking for me. With those two displaying themselves up there for another dragon to see they\'ll find us.”

Hakkai\'s expression still held something of malice. “I see your point, but don\'t ever let me catch you throwing things at Hakuryu again.” The little dragon, as if to put in his two cents worth, dropped down onto Hakkai\'s shoulder and bleated angry things in Kou\'s direction. Hakkai absently reached up to cradle the little head in his palm.

Kou stared at him, and then reached up to touch Hakkai\'s face. “Sorry,” he mumbled. He wasn\'t good at apologies.

“We need to leave,” Kougaiji said.

Hakkai nodded, softening a little. “Yes. I suppose we do.”

Five minutes later, Kou was busy packing his dragon up and Hakkai was sitting watching him from the beneath Hakuryu\'s driver\'s wheel. He watched sadly as Kou worked. He sighed, and said, “Well Hakuryu, lets go.”

Kou watched him leave. He raised one hand goodbye and saw that the gesture was returned. There was an old legend that if you watched a loved one go until they were out of sight you would never see them again. Before Hakkai had rounded the first line of trees, Kougaiji averted his eyes.

“See you later, pal,” he mumbled to himself.
