Chapter 3
Hell hath no fury
Akira walked through the corridors of the Red Tower. They were strangely deserted. The only times he saw someone was when he went to get something to eat. And he had been looking for his servant Suzaku for days. Yet every time he tried the door of the room he last brought her to when she arrived, she proved not to be present. It was very peculiar he thought to himself. It was as if someone put a spell on the door, preventing him from finding Suzaku. His thoughts wandered to who could be behind this scheme.
Tokito.
The answer was crystal clear, especially after he remembered the look on her face when Suzaku first come to the Red Tower. He smirked wickedly.
Truth was he wanted to be away from Tokito for a while. She was doing things to him. His feelings were confusing and one could only take so much from a foul mouth at one time. Next to that he was not certain of her feelings either. The former Shiseiten shook his head.
No matter how powerful he was he was still a mere mortal human. And a mortal human was subject to his emotions. Damn those emotions, they made life so complicated. He wasn’t supposed to have emotions like that, but it was long made clear to him that he still had those and had to admit to them. And even though he would admit them to himself and dealt with them, seeing them what they were and and what they were telling him, he still would not tell anyone else.
Akira was so far away in the world of his thoughts that he was not really paying attention to his surroundings. A sharp and big moving axe alerted his senses and brought him harshly back to reality. He jumped out of harm’s way only to discover that he wasn’t there yet.
Blind as he was didn’t mean that he could not see. There was so much more than just the eyes. The sound of moving, slashing machines like that axe reached his ears and he could feel the moving air against his skin.
Just as he turned away from the axe several swords sprung out of their hiding places in the floor, ready to cut anyone to pieces if that person was not careful enough. Akira turned around swiftly. He sighed of relief, but there were still the other swords.
It shouldn’t be a real problem for a samurai as skilled as he was, even if he wasn’t a samurai by blood and family. He was a samurai by effort. And something like this would not stop him. Swift and gracefully he twirled around each of the swords, though the space available for him was small. All his senses were sharp by now and he was focussed, more than ever.
He sensed the arrows in the air before they were even near him. It was a rain of arrows. If he hadn’t been so fast dropping to the ground they would have pierced him, resulting in a look that would resemble a pin-cushion. That was not a very pleasant thought. In fact it felt like arrows were already stuck in his butt. He reached backwards to make sure there were none. A growl emerged from his throat. What would be next?
The former member of the Shiseiten slowly crawled back onto his feet. He could not sense any danger at the present. The silence around him was very suspicious. Stealthily he moved onwards, setting one foot for one another.
He knew it was wrong when he felt the ground crumble underneath him...
Even blind he could sense the darkness around him as he fell swiftly into the dark hole he had managed to get himself into. How stupid, he thought to himself. How could he not have foreseen that something like this should happen? It happened so many times before, even when they were on the mission to save Yuya-san’s life and both Bontenmaru and he fell into a pit of darkness.
Impact on the ground was hard. It took a while before he was able to gain his composure and crawl back up onto his feet. He had no idea where he was. There was cold around him, but also many small sources of warmth. What was this place he wondered.
No matter where he was though he was fairly certain who was responsible for it. The only question now was when she would would show herself...
He had to prepare himself. Swiftly he unsheathed the two swords he was known for and took a defensive pose.
~****~
“Akiiiraaaaa-chaaaan...”
He knew that voice. He knew that voice all too well. As soon as he realised that he shuddered and growled in agony. It was her, the bossy know it all sadistic shaman Akari. Again she had come and why? Possibly to make his life a living a hell ofcourse, as she had done when he was younger.
His suspicions were confirmed as the pink haired Shiseiten appeared before him. She had a huge smile on her face and rubbed her hands satisfactory. For a moment she danced around her young companion to look at him from all possible sides. Her eyes twinkled deviously.
He wondered what she had in store for him. She wasn’t here for just some good fun, that he was sure of.
“What are you doing here, Akari?” He asked coldly.
“Tssk, tsssk, Akira-chaaan.” She pulled his ear as she flitted around him. “That is no way to treat a woman.”
Akira cocked an eyebrow. He wanted to tell her so badly that she was merely a woman wanna be. For he knew what gender hid underneath all that hair, make up and women’s clothing. But he knew what he could expect if he did that. Over the years he had trained himself to not say anything about that anymore. And he kept that selfcontrol even now.
He said nothing to her remark. “What are you doing here, Akari?”
“Oh,” she said as she smiled sweetly, “I’m amusing myself.”
She took another good look at him and frowned. “My oh my, Akira-chaaan, you look like you’ve been through a whole lot of trouble. Here, let me help clean you up.”
For a moment Akira considered to decline her offer. He knew that she always expected to get something in return. And who knew how she would clean him up. But the moment he considered that it was too late. She had already started.
All the seconds it took for her to clean him up Akira stood there frozen. What would he look like when she was finished? He didn’t dare to think about it.
“There!” Akari giggled and twirled around on one foot. She put her hands on her hips and looked at the result.
Hesitantly Akira reached for his hair. He knew it, he knew it. His hand folded itself around ribbon in his hair. His hakama was tied around his knees as if it was a short kimono for girls. The young samurai frowned. He knew it. He knew something like this would happen. Steam blew out of his ears and a dark cloud moved above his head.
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” he murmured to himself.
Akari laughed when she heard him say that. She folded her hands behind her back and brought her face close to that of her young comrade.
“Oh it’s not my fury you need to be worried about, Akira-chaaan.” She gave him a meaningful look and played with his chin a little.
“Then again, you might get it if you don’t tell me what I would like to know.” She grinned deviously and tapped on Akira’s shoulder.
He sighed deeply. He knew what she wanted and that she would not stop until she got it. Not that he liked it, but it was the only way to get her to leave him alone. The young samurai lowered his head, took a deep breath and sighed again. “What do you want to know?”
The shaman played with a strand of her pink hair. “Oh,” she answered with a natural nonchalance. “Your feelings concerning a certain former Taishirou...”
Akira cursed him mentally. He sheathed his swords and turned his hands into fists. How on earth did she know? She couldn’t possibly know, he didn’t tell anyone. But when it came to Akari you could never be certain. And he knew that she knew him better than anyone. She knew things about him no one else knew. So it shouldn’t have really surprised him that she knew this one thing too.
He sighed and leaned into her, to whisper it into her ear. Akari giggled with excitement as she heard that particular secret of Akira’s.
“Oh Akira,” her shoulders shook with laughter. “You really should learn to be more social and tell her before it’s too late.”
He growled as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. That was the only reply she’d get for that comment. Akira started to walk away from his companion, even though he had no idea where he was going or where the exit actually was.
“Oh, Akira...”
He turned his head to where her voice was coming from.
“If still want services from Suzaku I’d hurry if I were you. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, after all.” She winked at him as she played innocently with her hair.
Akira’s face gained a stoic expression. He knew all too well what Akari meant.
“And Akira...”
He growled. “What?”
Akari smiled. “If you wanna find the exit you have to turn around and walk the other way.”
The young samurai shook his head and took the direction Akari pointed out to him.
~****~
It didn’t take long at all for Akira to find the exit in that mysterious place. He started walking faster and faster, determined to find his servant. She should be where he left her, there could be no other possibility. And as he was walking he was trying to get Akari’s decorations off of him.
He was actually getting worried. Tokito’s fury was well known to him. He had barely managed to get out of a battle with her after she had become furious. Suzaku would be no match for her at all. If she did anything to his servant, Tokito would have to answer to him. An ice cold expression appeared on his face.
When he finally reached the door to Suzaku’s room he sighed of relief. It seemed to have taken ages just to get there. The Red Tower had never seemed so big before.
Slowly Akira opened the door.
