Love and War, Pt 1

Chapter 3- Love and War

Goku landed the car outside his son’s house, and Yugi hopped out and ran to the door. Gohan and Videl were already at the labs, working on their latest project. Pan was on vacation, school having been let out for the summer. He knocked on the door and waited for her to answer. He heard a thumping coming from in the house and was wondering what it was when the door burst open, slamming him over the rail and into the bushes. Pan came flying out the door, though she stopped when she saw Goku had brought the car.

“Grandpa, why did you bring the car? Aren’t we just going to fly there like normal?” she asked.
“Well, we would, but Yugi can’t fly.” Goku stopped and looked around. “Where is he anyway? I sent him to get you.”
“I don’t know. There wasn’t anyone waiting for me when I left the house.” Pan replied. Goku thought about this for a second, and then got out of his seat. He hovered above the car for a second, scanning the area for some sign of Yugi. He finally noticed the pair of legs thrashing about in the bushes, and flew over where Yugi was trapped. Grabbing hold of the teen’s ankle he pulled Yugi out of the bush. Goku looked down at Yugi, who had stopped struggling.

“What were you doing in the bushes? If you needed to use the bathroom, there is one in the house.” he admonished Yugi.
“What? No, I was knocked over by that homicidal granddaughter of yours!” Yugi protested.
“Pan? She said there wasn’t anyone waiting for her when she came out.” Goku informed him.
“Could you put me down please?” Yugi asked, as the blood rushing to his head began to make him feel slightly woozy.
“Oh, sorry.” Goku let go of Yugi, who promptly crashed to the ground. Yugi lay there for a second, trying to get his wind back. He sat up and rubbed his head where he had fallen on it. He thanked the gods he hadn’t been more then a few inches above the ground.
“Um, next time how about lowering me?” he asked. Goku quickly apologized, and they headed for car. Pan was already waiting in the front seat, so Yugi hopped in back. He couldn’t help but notice her outfit had changed. She wasn’t wearing the loose t-shirt she had been before, exchanging it for a more form fitting black one. Combined with her already tight jeans, Pan was displaying what could easily be described as her finer attributes. She had definitely filled out over the past few years, and Yugi was more then a little tempted to stare. He was suddenly glad about having been confined to the back seat, as it meant Goku couldn’t see him leering at his granddaughter. This was, as far as Yugi was concerned, a very good thing.

Bakura leered down at the fallen villains. If this was the best this measly dimension had to offer, no wonder they had fallen so easily to this Goku character. Even now the crystal globe they had all been watching showed the current actions of the boy. They had been defeated by a mere boy! And now Yugi was with this Goku… Bakura wondered what this meant for his plans. He turned back to his audience as it was.

“So you scum think you are worthy enough to work for me?” he asked the gathered villains. Above him Diabound hovered, arms crossed against his massive chest. His tail had been idly watching Dr. Gero. When the failed scientist approached it hissed at him, and Dr. Gero fell back a few paces.
“Worthy to work for you? What makes you worthy to be my slave?” demanded a green skinned creature. Bakura wondered who the fool was that challenged him. As it seemed the more prudent way of getting an answer to his question, he asked.
“I am Cell, and that shall be the last name you ever hear!” Cell leaped into the air and began hurling energy balls at Bakura. Diabound held out one massive hand, sheltering Bakura from the barrage. From behind his shielding Bakura began to laugh, enjoying how helpless his foe was. He was still laughing as Diabound reached out and took hold of Cell’s arms. Cell began to struggle, attempting to break free of Diabound’s grasp. The harder he struggled, the tighter Diabound held him. The others could hear the sound of his bones crunching into a fine powder as the demigod squeezed. Cell let out a scream of pain. He had never experienced such a fierce agony before, his body always regenerating itself when so severely damaged. Yet something was wrong, for this time nothing was happening, save for the pain escalating. Even being blown up did not compare to this torment. He was too blinded by the pain to see the snake headed tail whip up before him. It sank its fangs into his chest, and tore the upper half of his torso away from the rest of his body. At the same time Diabound’s upper body tore Call’s arms from their sockets, spraying the room with a fine mist of blood.

The snake head swallowed its prize, while the remains of Cell’s corpse dropped to the ground, blood pouring from the mangled corpse. Diabound reached out with a hand and released a blast of energy, reducing the shattered remains to dust. For the next several minutes the room was still. The collected villains stood there, contemplating the fate of one of their stronger members. Cell hadn’t even had a chance to fight back. His defeat had been total, and merciless. There was a faint rustle, and they all turned to look at the back of the room. Dr. Gero recognized superior power when he saw it. There would be no stopping this Bakura as the young man had named himself. He lowered his head, and bent his knee to the ground in submission. Raditz soon followed suit, then Nappa. Through out the room those who had sought to wreak destruction across the universe knelt in honor of their new lord.

All the while, Bakura kept laughing.

Goku landed the car just outside the village boundaries. Just over the hill smoke could be seen curling from where the village was supposed to be. Yet this was not the smoke of cooking fires or warm winter nights, but the foul black smoke of destruction. Screams could be heard, along with random gunfire. There was faint glow coming from the hill. Yugi was sure it wasn’t the setting sun, but raging fires. They hopped out of the car and Goku grabbed Yugi under the arms as they flew over the hill. Yugi stopped in horror at the destruction he saw.

The village had already been reduced to ruins. The monsters Yugi had become so familiar with in the game were every where he could see, all of them caught in a frenzied rage. This was unlike anything he had ever encountered before. All the other times they had dealt with the monsters as creatures they had been peaceful and indifferent, irritable at the worst. Now those same creatures were intent upon the destruction they caused. He watched as a Kourmori Dragon smashed into a building, digging through the wreckage for something. Smaller beasts were running through the streets, some fighting each other, other’s chasing human prey. Yugi was paralyzed by the horror of it all.

His head snapped around at the chatter of automatic gunfire. He looked over to the far corner of the village, where a small battle was raging. It seemed a small military group had taken up the defense of the village, but had ended up trapped near a small housing district. In between the bursts of gunfire he could see the reflection of flame on swords. He was puzzled by this for a moment, and then realized the warriors from the game must have joined with the villagers defending their homes. He was about to charge into battle when Pan landed in front of him.

“Where do you think you are going?” she demanded.
“I have to help those people!” Yugi answered back. He tried to duck past her, but she grabbed him by the front of his shirt and held him in place.
“If you want to help stay out of the way. Those monsters are way to dangerous, and you can’t fight!” she reminded him. “You’ll do better up here where Grandpa and I won’t have to worry about you.” She flew off to go join the fighting. Yugi watched as she began to pummel a dragon that had tried to intercept her. He no longer tried to keep track of the names of the monsters he saw. There were just too many. He cursed his lack of ability to do anything. He sat down on the top of the hill and tried to think of something he could do.

Suddenly, he remembered the way he had summoned his Kuriboh earlier that day. Though it wouldn’t be nearly effective enough for this battle, he had more then enough cards to make up for it. He quickly ran through his deck, selecting the most powerful cards he could find. He still wasn’t sure about the spells and traps he was carrying, so he focused on the monsters that wouldn’t need any assistance in the battle. He grabbed three of them and held them over his head the way he had previously.

“I summon Dark Magician! Summoned Skull! Valkyrion the Magna Warrior!” The cards vanished as they took shape. In a flash the three monsters were standing before him. They each looked down to him, awaiting his orders.
“Go, quickly, help the soldiers and villagers fight off the monsters!” he commanded them. They each nodded and set off for their foes. Yugi quickly selected two more monsters. “Go, Gaia the Dragon Champion! Dark Magician Girl!”

Gaia took to the skies and began to hunt down those creatures that sought to avoid getting shot. Over and over he plunged his lances into the monsters. Dragons and winged beasts alike fell to him. The Curse of Dragon he rode spit black fire into the faces of those who tried to challenge its rider, sending their charred corpses tumbling to the ground below. Warrior and dragon fought as one, intent on clearing the skies of all those that would stand against them. Soon they were covered in the blood of their enemies, instilling terror into those they then pursued.

Summoned Skull was even more brutal. The demon hovered above the battlefield, calling down lightning on to the creatures on the ground. The jagged bolts of energy tore up the ground as they scoured away any creature helpless enough to be caught in their path. The demon was careful though, guiding his bolts away from any of the villagers who might be fleeing. The stench of scorched earth mixed with the smell of scorched flesh filled the air. The Summoned Skull just grinned and continued to bring death to his foes.

Meanwhile the battle had been going south for the remaining human defenders. They had been too few to begin with, and despite the efforts of the odd warriors and fighters that had joined the fight, they were slowly being overwhelmed. Dragons attacked from above and the sides, while golems and a whole army of machines sought to barrel straight through the defenders. Bullets were already running low for the defenders, though the casualty rate was almost enough that that wouldn’t be a problem. By the time they would run out of bullets, they would have long run out of people to fire the guns. They had been ready to just give in and let the monsters slay them when help arrived. The Dark Magician began unleashing blast after blast of energy, scattering some monsters disintegrating others. Valkyrion dove into the middle of the battle, hacking opponents in two with single swipes of its sword. The metal warrior was soon covered in gore, its sword biting into living and dead alike, no care for what fell to its path of destruction. As they watched the pair devastate the once overwhelming enemy, the soldiers began to rally. Now it was no longer a matter of survival, but of not losing face in the presence of such powerful allies.

Goku and Pan had been busy as well, though their own pursuits had not been nearly as destructive as what Yugi had unleashed. Long since practiced at aiding during disasters, they had immediately begun to collect the survivors, dropping them off on the other side of the hills. They only stopped to fight when it was necessary, and only then for long enough to get to whomever they were trying to help at the moment. Once they had finished securing the civilians, they turned back to the battle looking forward to earning a bit of payback. What they found was not what they were expecting. Yugi’s creatures had managed to beat back most of the other monsters, though there were a few larger hold outs. Goku dashed into the middle of the fray, not wanting to miss out on any of the action. Pan was feeling slightly warn down after carrying so many people for so long, and decided to go back to where she had left Yugi.

She found him sitting on the top of the hill, the Dark Magician Girl hovering just off to the side. The female spell caster glanced up at Pan’s approach, and then turned back to watching the battle down below. Pan landed next to Yugi and looked down at him.

“Aren’t you going to help?” she asked.
“I am.” Yugi replied. He pointed to where his creatures were in the middle of tearing through a horde of weaker creatures. “I summoned some help.”
“You mean those monsters are yours?” Pan asked incredulously.
“They are. I summoned one by accident earlier when I was with Goku. I thought I might be able to do it again, and got some real help for the rest of the villagers.”
“Hey, we were the ones carrying them to safety!”
“Do you think you would have gotten far if the other monsters hadn’t been a bit distracted with trying to stay alive?” Yugi asked. Pan slumped to the ground next to him.
“Humph. I guess your right, but me and my grandpa deserve credit too!” she insisted.
“Well, when all is said and done, I doubt anyone will remember my creatures, but they will remember you and Goku carrying them away. By the way, why aren’t you down there fighting?”
“Oh, Grandpa has been bored the past few weeks. Nothing exciting has been occurring until now, so I figured I’d let him have some fun.” Pan replied.

The two of them sat there, watching as the combat raged. The soldiers had disengaged, having realized they weren’t doing anything more then wasting bullets. Goku was darting in and out, hurling energy attacks left and right, being careful not hit any of Yugi’s creatures. The creatures themselves had formed a line, and where in the middle of hacking their way straight through the enemy ranks. Pan was watching intently as several monsters attempted a quick flanking maneuver, only to have Goku blast the lot. She smiled as she watched her grandfather in action. It was always a rare treat. Suddenly, she felt vines wrap themselves around her and yank her off the ground. She began to struggle, but she was no match for the Des Dendle that had grown behind her. The more she struggled, the tighter it gripped her. Any vines she blasted were quickly replaced with new ones, even thicker and stronger then before. She could feel the plat tugging at her, trying to tear her in half. This only caused her to struggle all the more, tearing her clothes as they scraped back and forth across the small barbs the plant normally used to bind and trap its prey.

A/N: Leaving it on a bit of a cliffhanger there. The chapter got a bit longer then I originally intended, so I decided to split it in half.
