Rage within
Chapter Three
Amon and Robin’s car was getting closer to the offices. Robin was sitting watching the sights go by, Amon was silently driving the car A beep from both of their communicators rang out through the car suddenly.
Amon flipped his on first, amazingly not even wavering in his driving.
“ Yes?” He grunted.
“ There is a disturbance at the Neechi shopping center.” Said Michael’s voice. “ A witch has cornered some people in the main food court.
“ Should we get it?” Asked the voice of Miho.
“ We will, you just begin the search for this witch.” Calmly said Amon, making his decision.
“ Roger that.” Miho said, getting off the line.
He turned the car down a street, to head back down town again. He looked to his wife sitting in her seat.
“ You can rest this one out, you know.” He said, half offhandedly.
“ I’m coming along.” She said, slipping on her glasses. “ Are you worried about me?”
“ Yes, I was thinking about the baby...” He started, then admitted. “ And of you too.”
“ I am not that pregnant yet... there will be a time for caution, but you need back up!” She said sternly at the man, then sat up straighter in her seat.
Amon sighed a long breath out. When his wife had set her mind, nothing would change it, he said to himself. He knew she would be careful, but his worrying would still be there anyway. He just bit his tongue and kept on driving. It was not worth getting into their first real fight over this right now. She was a hunter. He had to remind himself of that exact fact many times over in his mind.
Once outside the large shopping complex, they saw many people running and screaming from the place in what could be explained as a stampede. The hunters hopped out of the car and fought through the throng of people to gain entrance into the shopping mall, weaving until they had finally gotten in.
Inside the food court, a man of thirty was ranting and raving while the seats and tables flew every which way. The contents of the food court went through the glass fronts of stores and into the food booths themselves, while bloodied employees ducked the missiles in an effort to escape this man rage.
Two people were lying on the ground, bleeding from wounds about the head and chest, as the man who’s body glowed raged on. The people seemed to be unmoving, but still in great danger in the proximity of this wild man and his power. Both hunters knew, they had to act and act decisively to stop this witch
Amon took a spot behind one of the pillars that made up the area, his weapon clutched firmly in hand. Robin ducked behind a nearby mall cleaner’s station, her eyes never coming off of the raving man who kept his powers tossing things around like an angry young child would do in a tantrum. Only difference here, his tantrum could kill people.
Amon stepped out a little and assessed the situation carefully, keeping his peripheral vision clear to see where his partner was at all times. From his vantage point, it did not look too good.
He stared at the man, and lowered his weapon a little. He had been training to use his newly found abilities since they had awakened two months ago. He thought that using them would help bring down this man before he could cause more damage to life and property in a swift and timely manner. He did not like the idea, but he knew he had to try them anyways.
The tall hunter looked at the man and stared at him, he felt his power build then release from himself. His power did not hit the mark, but knocked over a couple of seats right next to him in a shower of sparks and loud screeching as the seats scrapped along the floor before crashing into a wall on the far side of the food court.
“ Fuck!!!” He swore loudly.
The man whirled around, and one bench he had lifted in mid air, shot at the man. It hit the pillar, as Amon ducked back behind the cement cylinder. The bench crashed into the concrete and broke into pieces that flew everywhere as a second heavy object was being launched at the Hunters hiding place. The advantage of surprise was now gone.
The man yelled some garbled obscenities to anyone in earshot of him, as he pelted the pillar with anything that his power could lift. Amon swore to himself, as he found himself pinned down while the wrath of the man continued towards him. He knew, he did not do very well with it, and he felt mad as hell at it. Now he thought of how to stop this raving looney once and for all.
Robin jumped out from her spot and fell to her knees to make a smaller target of herself. Flames danced in her eyes, as she focused her mind on the man. He had not seen her just yet, she was glad of. The surprise factor was now her’s.
The man burst into a pyre of six foot high flames, and he screamed out in pain. The stuff he had in the air dropped to the tiled floor with a loud crash. He staggered forward, as the flames ate at him. He screamed in abject pain, as the fire consumed him clothes and all. He made his way closer to where the flames had came from, never once leaving his feet. Robin ducked behind the cleaner’s station, expecting an attack was coming her way.
Amon stepped out, and he fired three shots right into the burning man’s chest from very close range. The man stopped dead where he was, and then the flaming witch dropped like a stone. The witch layed motionless, as the flames flickered all over his body hungrily. He was now under control.
Robin got back to her feet, as she saw the witch had fallen. Amon came over to her and nodded, a look of disgust on his face.
“ Good work.” He snuffed lowly, his voice flat and void of any emotional timber.
“ You did great too.” She said, seeing the mood of her man.
“ Like fuck I did!” He spat loudly, as he moved to check on the fallen witch. “ I fucked right up.”
Robin could see his ineffectual try was making his angered at himself. She just shook her head, knowing that her man would get the hang of his power quickly, but she also knew that had hurt his pride somewhat. She knew that just being quiet for awhile would help him, and his mood would pass.
She hated this side of him, to the point of distraction, but this was a part of him too. What ever side he was showing at any time, she loved him anyways. She knew it might be a bit naive of her to justify his mood, but that was how she was.
He came back from the body and looked at the young hunter. His eyes were not as piercing as they had been when he had stepped away, as they had softened greatly.
“ Call for SOLOMON, he’s dead.” He said, turning. He just sighed loudly, then leaned himself back against the pillar that had been his shield through this.
Robin nodded and called it in. He seemed to be calming himself down a little, but his eyes clearly were telling of the inside turmoil that was going on inside of him. He always seemed to have a battle inside of himself, she admitted to herself.
The man did not want to fully admit that he was just like his mother... a craft user... a witch. He wanted to use his powers, but they were to him just a curse of his own birth. Ever since his awakening, he had been subtly different, as if this was always at the back of his mind. Robin had been very supportive of her husband always, yet the end acceptance must come from himself.
Robin sighed, knowing that she too, had fought long and hard to come to a comfortable acceptance about her own powers. The young tawny haired girl just told her self to be patient and honest with her husband, he would come to his own balance with it all. It was in fact, his to do and not her.
All of this aside, his actions still nagged at her. She felt hurt by it every time, yet she could understand it. This was the double edged sword about it all.
Soon after the people from SOLOMON had picked ut the dead witch, they were headed back to the offices. Amon apologized for his actions toward her earlier, and Robin accepted that completely. She understood what it too to come to grips, she just wished he would act it out a little differently than what he was.
In silence, they would finish the ride into STN headquarters. Neither one of them really in a talking mood, neither one actually wanting to talk.
