Ritsuka moved to his bed and sat down, Soubi right behind him. He heard Soubi sit down on the floor like always as he began changing into some clean and dry clothes. Soubi watched him change and Ritsuka could feel his eyes going over his body as he pulled his shirt off and began working at his pants. When Ritsuka had turned seventeen, his modesty had gone away and he began to not care if Soubi saw his body, well most of it anyways. So he let him sweep his eyes over his body, splattered with scars and bruises on his back, sides and arms, his legs; and Soubi took in everything he could with his eyes. Ritsuka had told him to never say he loved him, until he meant it, and he hadn’t. But Ritsuka had never said he couldn’t look. Without telling Ritsuka that he had loved him, he had become suppressed and soon began expressing himself through watching Ritsuka, looking and eyeing his growing body. Ritsuka was much taller, he had grown his hair out as did Soubi, and his build was not thin any longer, he had soft muscles that rolled under his skin as he moved. Soubi swallowed hard as he felt his body reacting to looking at Ritsuka’s body. As Ritsuka was pulling on a pair of pajama bottoms as he tossed a towel back to Soubi. “Dry yourself off Soubi, and I’ll give you something to wear for a bit.”

Soubi took the towel but said, “Do you have anything that will fit me Ritsuka?”

Ritsuka was in the middle of pulling on a shirt when he looked back at Soubi, sizing him up. He saw his face, a little pale and thin but fine nonetheless, and his body which was also thin. “I’ve grown some, my clothes will fit you snugly.”

Soubi nodded and began drying his hair while he waited for Ritsuka to give him his change of clothes. Ritsuka watched him do it, seeing that he was a bit clumsy with his fingers and hands, which was understandable, considering how cold he was in that thin shirt of his with no jacket. He walked over to him and knelt down, not caring that he still didn’t have his shirt on and took the towel and set it aside as he started unbuttoning Soubi’s shirt. He kept his eyes on the light blue clothe, watching his buttons come undone and the shirt to fall away to reveal a pale chest. Soubi pulled it off and let Ritsuka towel him off gently. Ritsuka was careful to avoid touching him, afraid what would happen if he were to touch him. He began to feel Soubi shiver and looked at his face, watching his eyes gaze back as his body shook beneath Ritsuka’s fingers. Suddenly, he shook more as his finger accidentally brushed his skin. They hadn’t touched each other hardly since that night Ritsuka told Soubi to not say he loved him. Soubi didn’t hold him when they battled or when they were by themselves and didn’t put his arm around Ritsuka’s shoulders when they walked anymore, and to Ritsuka (or so he told himself over and over) he was fine with that. It was what he wanted all along. But somewhere inside he still felt like his heart was breaking. Whenever Soubi came to his room through the window, he didn’t get as angry because Soubi didn’t say things that made him angry anymore, yet…whenever he left, Ritsuka would be left feeling an empty feeling that still made him want to cry.

But for Soubi, it was even more of a torture. He wanted to tell Ritsuka he loved him, but not until he was able to tell him about Seimei, not until he was able to be truthful to him and be able to not hide things anymore. Two years, and Soubi still hadn’t been able to find it in him to do it. Every time he would think of Seimei. He would miss him some, but then it would be replaced with anger. To Soubi, Seimei was the only one, and he couldn’t live separated from him, but it was different for Seimei, and through Seimei’s orders, he was forced to live on without him. He was forced to-

Soubi suddenly became aware of Ritsuka who had moved closer to him to dry more of his torso. Ritsuka’s eyes were trained on what his hands were doing, and the look made his features more erotic. He suddenly saw his eyes darted up to Soubi’s and his movements stopped. They stared at one another for a while, Ritsuka’s eyes tracing over Soubi’s face and Soubi watching them as they did so. Then, suddenly, Ritsuka moved closer to Soubi and began kissing him. It was soft and slow at first, but then it got heavier and more heated. Soubi tried to stop, but he couldn’t and when Ritsuka pressed his warm body against Soubi’s cold torso, he fell back with him on top. Through his damp jeans, he felt Rituka’s knee rub softly and suddenly he was brought back to their currently straining relationship and pushed on him softly, then reluctantly when he felt Ritsuka’s warmth move away from his body. He looked up at Ritsuka and saw him staring back with that same cool stare he had always worn for the past two years. Soubi looked at him then away as he began pulling his shirt on. “I should leave Ritsuka. I’m dry enough, I’ll be fine.”

Ritsuka’s eyes flashed with a look that Soubi hadn’t seen in a long time. That look of wanting and sadness. “Fine, but don’t catch a cold.”

Ritsuka got off of him and went to the bed, putting his shirt on as he sat down and watched Soubi do the same. He adjusted his glasses and stood. “I’ll see you tomorrow Ritsuka.”

He turned to go and Ritsuka watched him without saying anything, but just as he was about to leave, he called him back. His ears had drooped a little as he looked up at him. “Come back tomorrow, I have something I want to ask of you.”

Soubi saw his eyes return to being cold but for that moment, he saw part of the old Ritsuka that he knew. He nodded and left out the window. “Hai Ritsuka.”

Ritsuka was sitting on his bed with a book the next evening, the package he bought that afternoon hidden well in the drawer of the nightstand next to the bed on his right. His eyes darted from the book to the drawer as he waited for Soubi. I can’t believe I am going to ask him for this…He sighed and touched his forehead with his hand. But, this has gone on long enough…

“Are you alright Ritsuka?” He jumped at the sudden voice and looked at Soubi coming through the window, his hair pulled back and his jacket fitting tightly against his body.

“Hai…” Ritsuka was able to hide a blush that was coming to his cheeks and he stood, walking over to Soubi. “Soubi, do you remember when you asked me to pierce your ears?”

Soubi caught his breath as Ritsuka reached up and touched his earlobe where there was a faint scar by near the earring from his incident with Koya and Yamato, two of the four Zeros they had met. Soubi nodded and watched Ritsuka’s face as he felt him finger the lobe. Ritsuka pulled away and Soubi almost pulled him back, wanting to feel him touch his skin again. He watched him as he went to the drawer and pulled something out, going back to Soubi and taking his hand. Soubi looked at what was put there and he was further surprised. It was a piercing gun. “Ritsuka?”

“I want you to pierce mine.” he murmured, looking up at him. Soubi’s eyes widened more and he almost said no. Ritsuka didn’t want him to show his love, tell him he loved him, anything, but here he was asking him to pierce his ears for God knows what reason.

So Soubi asked. “Why Ritsuka?”

He looked away then back to Soubi. “To make memories…”

Soubi had to smile at the term he used. He hadn’t said that since he was twelve. Has it really been only five years, he asked himself. It feels like an eternity… He pulled his jacket off and nodded to Ritsuka who saw the smile on his face, but pretended to not see it. Ritsuka moved to the bed and sat down, pulling his hair up into a ponytail. “Are you sure Ritsuka?”

He nodded and closed his eyes, listening as Soubi sat on the bed close to him and ripped open the package. The piercing gun already had one of the two earrings that would go in and he readied it to Ritsuka’s ear. He got ready to press down and have it pierced, when Ritsuka began to shiver. Soubi pulled the piercing gun back and Ritsuka looked at him. “I’m fine, go ahead…”

Soubi pulled him closer in between his legs and held one hand while he readied the gun with the other. Ritsuka almost pushed away but then accepted his silent offer and closed his eyes again, squeezing Soubi’s hand. Soubi felt himself heat up at how close they were, trying to remember the last time they had gotten that close, and he couldn’t. He readied the gun again and this time, Ritsuka didn’t shake. He was too busy concentrating on keeping himself together. It was probably his teenage hormones that were doing this to him, but having Soubi this near to him was driving him crazy. Soubi’s smell drifted around him, the smell of faded cigarettes (the ones that he quit a long time ago), his soap he used and the smell of the salt on his skin, all making one delicious scent that was Soubi. He could feel Soubi’s legs so close to wrapping around him and his breathe tickled his neck softly. Vaguely he heard Soubi telling him to take a deep breath and he did, loving how Soubi’s smell made his body react greatly and the way his voice sounded in his ear. Then his head was being turned and his body moved with it. In his ears, came the sharp sound of a gasp from Soubi as he did and his arm snaked its way around his side, pulling him in closer. He could feel Soubi’s torso against his side and holding his arm there, but he didn’t try and get away. He then heard Soubi’s voice in his ear now, soft and low, and a bit shaky. “Ritsuka, it’s done.”

Ritsuka snapped his eyes open and he touched his ears. They felt a bit sore, but other than that, they didn’t hurt at all. He was surprised that he didn’t even notice that Soubi had done it and he didn’t notice that he had. Soubi watched him finger the earrings and started pulling away, but he was stopped by Ritsuka. His arm was in Ritsuka’s hand and he stared up at him intently. “Don’t go, not just yet,” he whispered, then turned his head again. Soubi moved back where he was and both his arms went around Ritsuka, who kept staring ahead as he played with the earrings, thinking. It was comfortable, to have someone hold him without words and to just feel them near. He didn’t think that Soubi could make him feel that way but somehow he did.

“Ne…Ritsuka…” Soubi’s voice floated to his ear again in a soft whisper and Ritsuka closed his eyes.

“What is it?” he sighed back.

“I want to tell you about Seimei.” Ritsuka looked up at him and Soubi was sort of smiling down at him. He couldn’t believe it but he heard Soubi right. Soubi chuckled at his look of surprise and continued talking. “Seimei…despite, what Septimal Moon says, is dead.”

Ritsuka looked down. He had known all along that there was no chance that he was alive, but hearing it said out loud only made it hurt even more. Soubi hugged him tighter and Ritsuka held onto his arms with his hands as he listened to him continue. “Seimei was different around you. He was very different from what you described. There were times that he could be ruthless when fighting, he was extremely obsessive-compulsive, and he also could be very cruel in general. No one wanted to approach Seimei because he could be so cruel.”

He closed his eyes, not wanting to see the look of sadness and disbelief that he knew would sweep across Ritsuka’s face and that did. “That can’t be Seimei! He wasn’t like that to me…”

Soubi opened his eyes and saw that he was looking up at him, eyes asking if it was true, and he could only hold him tightly. Ritsuka held him back, trying to keep his tears down. He couldn’t cry, not in front of Soubi, but soon he couldn’t help it. His tears leaked out and began falling. It hurt to hear those things said about Seimei, his brother, the one who protected him from his mother, the one who always took care of him. “I think, that Seimei held you somewhere where he wouldn’t even let me in, Ritsuka.”

Soubi’s fingers stroked his head as he continued and ran through his hair, pulling out the tie that held his ponytail in place and Ritsuka soon calmed down. He looked up at Soubi and touched his cheek, making him pause as he earned a smile in return. He didn’t need to know it all, he just needed Soubi to show that he could tell the truth and not joke, that he didn’t have to lie anymore. Curling up more against Soubi’s body, he ran his fingers over his face, touching his cheek, his forehead, lips, before whispering. “You can say it now Soubi…”

As he held Ritsuka, Soubi shuddered and held him tighter. He leaned in and whispered. “I love you Ritsuka…”

Ritsuka closed his eyes and lay his head against Soubi’s chest, sighing. Now, when Soubi said it, warmth spread through him. He wasn’t sure why it felt like this now, but it did. For a while, they sat like that and didn’t say a word to each other. Ritsuka thought for a while over the warmth he felt instead of the hurt, which hadn’t subsided yet. Soubi had gone against Seimei’s orders to not tell him anything, to not say a thing to Ritsuka about his death and the way he was with everyone else. That showed Ritsuka just how much Soubi loved him. It took him two years to do it, but he finally did.

Soubi had waited for those two years for Ritsuka to show him something, anything, even if he didn’t mean to or not, that there was something he was feeling when Soubi didn’t say that he loved him, something to show him that even if he didn’t know it, he loved Soubi back. He had noticed the change in his personality, the sudden solitude he had put himself through had been somewhat of a sign, but not enough for Soubi. But then tonight, when he asked him to pierce his ears, it had showed Soubi that he wanted to be connected now for a deeper reason. So after he pierced his ears, he was finally able to defy Seimei’s order. Soubi kissed Ritsuka’s head, his cheek, then his mouth, feeling him hold back onto him and kiss him back easily. He felt Ritsuka slide his tongue into his mouth, a bit surprised since he used to complain often of Soubi’s tobacco taste when they kissed. Still, he let it happen and even slid his own to Ritsuka’s mouth in return and heard a light sigh from Ritsuka when he did. He pulled back, making Ritsuka on top as they continued to kiss each other. Soubi’s hands began moving over his body, one slipping up his shirt while the other stayed on his back. Ritsuka moved his mouth from Soubi’s, licking his lip once before moving to his neck. Soubi closed his eyes and relaxed as he felt Ritsuka kissed and licked down to the opening of his shirt. Suddenly, the warmth of Ritsuka’s mouth and body was gone. He looked up at him and saw him looking down apologetically. “Gomen…Soubi, I can’t do it for some reason.”

Soubi wasn’t angry in the least. He actually smiled as he sat up. “Daijobu Ritsuka.” he kissed his cheek gently and swung his feet over the side of the bed. “We will when you’re ready…”

Ritsuka sat back on his heels and watched him get up to go. He fingered his new piercing and when Soubi got to the window he turned back. “Aishiterou, Ritsuka…” and he left.
