Chapter 3

Shampoo clung to Mousse as they walked together in search of a store that held anything that could be used as a weapon against the zombies. Mousse was clearly on edge as he darted around in almost complete circles with the tree branch still locked tight in his fist.

“Shampoo no know what going on” Shampoo whimpered, tears rolling down her cheeks once again. Mousse paused for a moment and pulled her into a nearby sporting store. Once inside, he dropped the branch and put his hands on her shoulders to look into her eyes.

“Shampoo, I don’t understand all of this either, but trust me, I won’t leave you. You heard Jes, we’ve got to stick together and not panic.”

“Moussu no leave Shampoo?”

“I promise. Just please don’t cry and try to pull yourself together.”

Shampoo nodded as they began browsing in the sporting store. From there, Mousse found a metal baseball bat that looked very promising. Shampoo chose a golf club, but soon changed her selection to another baseball bat as Mousse informed her that the golf club would bend unless hit on the heavy part.

Jes and Trunks soon met up with them minutes later, Trunks carrying a pool cue and Jes sporting a cricket mallet. Their pockets were also full and strapped to their backs were large hunting rifles.

“Where the hell did you find those?” Mousse asked pointing at Jes’s guns. He handed one to Mousse and Trunks did the same for Shampoo. Into their hands they deposited several extra rounds.

“Hunting store. There’s some more there but we couldn’t carry them. But it’s there for future reference.” He pointed north towards the still escalators. “Anyone check upstairs yet?” They both shook their heads. Jes gritted his teeth as he knew that they must face whatever lied ahead. “Didn’t think so. Right, well, guess we better get to it.”

“Why can’t we stay here? Shut off upstairs, no zombies there yet!”

“Shampoo, we don’t know that. For all we know, they could be having a party up there or something. The point is, we have to secure the whole building, or we’re just sitting ducks!” Shampoo quieted once more as Jes gave his gung-ho speech. “Now everyone, suck it up and let’s go!”
