The First Day and First Mistake
a/n ok guys. plz plz plz comment. i need it. i really do. plz and ty.
I sighed at my third period teacher. For the fifth time. I was barely able to concentrate due to my hissing companion's comments, but I could still tell that he had, once again, made an error in his problem solving.
I was in math class. My favorite subject, I did extremely well in something that most people think is useless. I loved knowing that something had a definite outcome. And the riddle of trying to figure out the variables and all that lovely stuff. Oddly enough, my second favorite subject was grammar and literature.
I decided to let the mistakes pass and continued daydreaming. When Kaoru had pulled me to him, I had briefly smelled a most delicious concoction of scents that was still making me dizzy. I had spent first, second, and most of third period trying to figure out what the smell consisted of, but as of a few minutes ago, I deterred that it was a smell that was soley Kaido.
The bell rang and the teacher gave us our homework. 'Finally,' I thought, 'lunch time.' I all but sprinted out of my class and within fifty seconds had run the sixty yard distance. I probably should have waited to look around before I ran headlong into the cafeteria. I had no idea where I was going to sit. Fortunately for me, a few people who happened to play tennis seemed to know the new person.
I was waved down and hollered at by half of Seigaku's regular tennis team. I heard a "Kori, over here!" and a "Hey, dude, this way!" and others of the sort. I loped over to their table and ignored the stares that followed me. I couldn’t care less.
"Hey man what’s up?" Momo-sempi asked.
"Hey. Not much. Just hungry as hell." and I was. I was absolutely famished. I hadn’t eaten anything after my match, and using Shift always made my metabolism rise.
Kawamura looked over my tray that was overflowing with food, "How can you eat so much in one sitting?" he asked, "You're going to make yourself sick."
I inwardly laughed. Hell, I laughed out loud too. "Gah man, you sound like my mom. She hates when I eat like this. But it’s normal after using Shift."
I looked up as Inui-san spoke, "It’s to be expected. For a body to go through something like what you've described, it would take up more energy and strength than the Ten'i Muhô No Kiwami. Which reminds me," he paused and his glasses introverted as he looked sideways at me, "have you reached any of the doors?"
Ok I was lost at Ten'i. So I told him.
He grinned, "This is really surprising. For you to have a technique so advanced, no training, no background skills, and no opened doors is almost scary." His voice carried off as he scribbled profusely in his tiny journal.
Eiji-kin laughed, "Move over Ochibi, Kori's gunna take your spot." he teased the young guy next to him.
"I never had a spot. Mada mada dane, sempi. If someone's better than me, that’s ok." 'Well,' I thought, 'he's a pretty good sport about all this. Cool.'
I smiled and listen to the tennis players’ babble and talk about practices and when I was going to be able to join and just when I thought all was well, I heard him. I damn near smelled him at the same time.
The hiss slithered down my body and pooled in the pit of my stomach. Ok not good. If just a sound did this to me, what was I going to do if he decided he wanted to shake my hand again?
He loped, yes loped- and better than mine might I add, to the table and sunk down. The other occupants ignored his late presence, but I couldn’t get his nearness out of my mind. It was almost evasive, not that I minded. And that was wayy wrong.
The rest of the day passed in a haze. I really had to stop thinking about Kaido when I almost ate rocks in P.E. Not that I really stopped thinking about him, I just thought about not falling a bit more than him. After I changed, I jogged over to the tennis courts. Practice was already in full swing.
“If you can’t come to practices on time, Yummemiya, you wont make the team at all.” I heard Kunimitsu tell me. I bowed low.
“I’m sorry, sempi. I have P.E. for my last class so its hard for me to,” I hesitated. I was about to say “hard for me to take a shower without everyone finding out I’m female” but caught myself and finished, “retrieve all my belongings after freshening up.” I so deserved a medal for this.
He looked me over. Deciding I was telling the truth he told me to go change and get in with someone who was finished.
Two hours later, I was loosening my muscles in the lovely hot water of the boy’s locker room. The girl’s was locked so I couldn’t sneak in there to do this. I had bid my time and waited for everyone to leave.
I turned off the water and left the tough knots in my shoulders for the shower at home. I grabbed my towel and wrapped it around myself. Wiping at some water that had gotten in my eyes, I didn’t see the body that I ran into. I froze as I smelled the last person on earth who I was expecting.
Kaoru Kaido.
