On Thursday, a delivery person arrived at the 27th Precinct carrying a garment bag. Everyone paused at their tasks as they looked at the figure at the door.
“Special delivery for Detective Dee Laytner.”
“That’s me”, spoke Dee as he came up to the delivery person.
“Someone at the front desk already signed for this. Have fun.”
As soon as the delivery person left, everyone gathered around Dee to see what’s inside the garment bag.
“Since when did you start shopping at the top designer in the city?” asked JJ.
“Yeah! Been hiding cash?” smiled Ted.
“Maybe you got it online”, grin Drake.
“No such luck although I wish it was”, moan Ryo. “A letter came with the bag.”
Ryo gave the sealed envelope to Dee.
“From the secret admirer?” asked Ted
“You know it is”, responded JJ
“THAT BASTARD!!!” yelled Dee.
“What is it”, asked Ryo.
“Read it for yourself”, growled Dee as he handed the letter to his partner. As Ryo read the letter, his countenance changed from total calm to down right anger.
“Damn the SOB!!!”
“What is it Ryo”, asked Drake.
“Listen to this”, growl Ryo.
To my most beautiful and beloved detective.
I’ve heard that you didn’t have a outfit for the
party on Friday night.
So I elected to select and buy an outfit that will
show off that beautiful face and shape of your
luscious body.
I expect to see you in this sensuous outfit
or else you will have another murder case
on top of the one you’re working on now.
Remember Dee
You will be mines
once you are fully in my power.
“Damnit!” yelled JJ.
“He’s making it look like it was your fault that those people in the hotel died, Dee.” growl Ted.
“This doesn’t look good,” spoke Ryo. “A killer who is stalking Dee. If he doesn’t wear that outfit or show up at the party, we’re going to have a killing spree on our hands.”
“So there is no choice”, moan Dee. “I have to be at that party.”
“Not unless you can catch that killer”, spoke Rose as he entered the room. He looked at the outfit and then at Dee. “I take it that you have received an invitation to a very fancy holiday party.”
“We all do, Rose”, spoke Drake. “An old friend of JJ wanted to meet us.”
“I see. Well all of you can go except for Laytner. You will be covering tomorrow night. The Chief approved it.”
“You can’t!!” yelled Dee as anger flashed in his eyes.
“He has to be there!!” spoke JJ
“It’s important that he’s in attendance!” responded Ryo.
“Enough!!” spoke Rose in a cold tone. “Laytner will work tomorrow night! Nothing that you say will change this order. If I were you Dee, I take that outfit back to the store and get a cash refund. You won’t be wearing that.”
Rose left the room with a smirk on his face. There was enough anger to blow up the building. Before anyone open their mouth, Dee spoke.
“I know that fuckin’ Rose has it in for me and that he thinks this is just another party. He never gave us a chance to explain the letter. The only thing that can be done is that you guys go and find that bastard at the party. It shouldn’t be hard if all of you are there.”
“I was going to say that if you’re not going, I’m not going”, spoke Ryo. “But since lives are on the line and my partner is in danger, I will go. And when all of this is over, I will take my Cinderella to a holiday ball that is fitting to his beauty. And no Rose will stop us.”
“I await for that, my beautiful prince.”
The guys let out loud hoots and whistles. Ryo blushed while Dee told the guys to knock it off. The guys returned to work and prepared for a night that will not be fun for all.
