"No!" Shun yelled, pushing Suka back
again. He shut his eyes tight and let his right hand fly, a clap of skin
echoing through the still room as Hasukawa stumbled back, stunned. He
held his hand to his face and hissed, looking away to hide the truth of the
sting.
"Shun-chan. . ." he murmured, rubbing his
cheek. Shun sniffed, wiping at his eyes to quell the tears that began to
fall. With no luck he let them drop down his face, Suka taking an
immediate and painful notice. "You're crying! I-I'm sorry. .
."
Shun shook his head as Hasukawa approached again, having
unselfishly forgotten about the pain in his face. Shun sniffed again and
covered his mouth to stop it from quivering. Life was really
unfair. Shun looked up, seeing a genuine apology etched on Kazuya's
face. He flinched as his roommate took a seat next to him, cautiously
allowing Suka to take his hand. He shivered again as Suka gently stroked
it, coaxing Shun to look at him. Confused, he did, a few more tears
dripping down his face. Hasukawa reached up to wipe one way, speaking
softly.
"What's wrong?"
"Th . . . Suka-chan, it's
n-not. . ." His voice hitched and he shut his mouth, trying unsuccessfully
to pull his hand back from Suka's grasp. ". . . Why?"
Hasukawa tilted his head to the side a bit as the
question clicked within. ". . . I just thought we could go a little
further . . . I mean, I like kissing, but with the stress of school, I've just
been feeling the urge for more. After all, you're my girl, Shun-chan."
Shun took a punch to the stomach as he could only blink in response, the tears
drying up and leaving his eyes to burn.
"Wh . . . what?" He
asked meekly. Kazuya grinned in response and wiped away the last of the
falling drops.
"You've always been. Since we met. . ."
He suddenly looked flustered, unable to keep eye contact. "I really like
you, Shun-chan, you know that." Shun's breath caught in his throat as a
million reasons to shut up raised up through his confused mind. He didn't
just hear that, did he? It would be so easy to play along – but it just
wouldn't be the truth.
"Your. . . guh-girl?"
Suka frowned. "Yeah, my girl. If you
don't like that, I can call you something else, Shun-chan—" Shun finally
ripped his hand free and launched himself into the center of the room.
Horrified, he reached over and grabbed Suka's head, feeling around to the back
of it. "OW!"
Fuck. Hasukawa wasn't in love with him. He
was in love with her.
If Shun was angry before, he was now on the warpath.
"No!"
he screamed, taking the pencil holder off the nearby desk and hurling it to the
ground. Hasukawa watched wide-eyed, as a person totally different from
the one he knew a few years or so ago sudden reveal "herself."
She must still be mad about the contact.
"Shun, I mean it, I'm sorry about touching—"
Shun dropped to his knees, huffing heavy breaths.
"That's not it!" Kazuya quickly got down to the floor across from
Shun and on his own knees. Shun readily cried this time, knowing very
painfully that now the only way he could get his heart's growing desire was to
be someone he was not. It wasn't fair . . . Suka seemingly liked him for
all the world, loved, maybe; he just
didn't think Shun was a him.
That had to have been one hell of a hit.
"No. . ." he whispered and sobbed, holding his
sleeve to his eyes. Hasukawa gently placed a hand on Shun's arm but he
shirked it away. With sad eyes he looked up and sputtered, shaking his
head slowly back and forth. "I . . . I. . ."
