Weapons' fire traveled between the two sides as they had both taken positions in order to eliminate the enemy. The alliance ground troops weren't as heavily armored as the Sith and the Rorgans, seeing that the Sith and Rorgans needed special suits in order to breathe.
However, those suits were outfitted with very powerful weapons that were giving the alliance troops trouble. The Ctarl soldiers couldn't get close enough because of these weapons so they had to hold back and let the humans shoot it out with the Sith and the Rorgans.

Meanwhile, in orbit, a different story was being told. The alliance ships were smashing through the enemy's numbers. Then the enemy fleet got smart and all their ships entered the atmosphere and landed on the surface. This action forced the alliance to land as many of their ships as they could.
