Crimson Wings
Chapter 3 – Love, Loss & Friendship

\"Hey Niwa-san,\" came a voice behind the redhead as he walked to school the next day. He turned to see Risa running towards him, \"Yo Niwa-kun… good morning...\" she smiled to the redhead, \"How are you today?\"

“Very good thank you.” Daisuke smiled his usual fake smile. No one ever seemed to notice so it didn’t really matter if it was a real smile or not, “By the way Harada-san… how are you and Satoshi Hikari doing?”

“Oh very good really… see the necklace he bought me? Isn’t it pretty? It was for our anniversary… course, I had to remind him about it but that’s alright… you can’t expect a man to remember that kind of thing,” she chuckled.

Daisuke genuinely chuckled as he replied calmly, \"You know Harada-san, I had the feeling that Satoshi-San just needed someone to help him see the fun in life... and it looked like you where just the person to do that. He’s really changed since you met him.\"

“Hai… fate brought us together and I know fate will keep us that way for the rest of our lives… my and Satoshi belong together… I just know it. Hnn, to think I use to think that Dark was the one for me. Silly huh?” Risa chuckled. Yes, she cared about Dark but she now knew that he wasn’t the one for her.

Daisuke nodded in reply, feeling a pang of guilt and sadness at the mention of his former companion’s name. If only Risa knew just now ‘wrong’ Dark had really been for her… Dark wasn’t even human really… just half of the spirit of an artwork.

\"Oh by the way Niwa-kun... umm... Riku\'s been acting a bit strange lately. She wont tell me what\'s wrong but she might tell you. Maybe you could have a talk with her? After all, she is your girlfriend,\" Risa said calmly. Though Riku and her were close they didn\'t always tell each other everything... not like they did when they were younger.

\"Sure,\" Daisuke said with a calm smile as they reached the school. Had Riku been acting strange? He hadn’t really noticed… This made him feel a little guilty. Had something been wrong and he’d been too ‘spaced out’ to notice? Some boyfriend he was turning out to be.

Meanwhile, \"YOU DON\'T DESERVE YOUR RANK! HOW COULD YOU LET HIM GO?!\" yelled the chief of police, Saehara, as he yells his ear off. Justin however didn\'t seem to even care as he stared ahead blankly. \'Here it comes,\" He thought. *BAM* The captain gives him a right hook then dismisses him. Justin shoots him a ugly glare as he leaves and goes on with his day.

Justin\'s day was normal. To normal for him, however, was boring… He liked the idea of fighting demons and supernatural things, one would call it his romantic dream. He liked the idea of being someone’s knight in shinning armour.

Justin was exhausted by the time the end of the day came, not to mention bored to tears, but he decided to stop off by his grandfather’s house to pick up an old heirloom he\'d been meaning to get before heading home.

Daisuke hadn\'t been able to talk to Riku until school ended. Riku seemed to have been avoiding him but Daisuke was able to catch up with her before she was able to grab her bike and take off, \"What\'s wrong? Why are you avoiding me?\" the redhead asked calmly, a sick feeling washing over him.

\"I... ummm... I\'m sorry I have to go,\" Riku said in a nervous voice, looking very uncomfortable all of a sudden, but Daisuke grabbed her wrist gently and gave her a look that begged for an answer, \"Niwa-kun... I...\"

Daisuke was shocked at what she\'d called him. She hadn\'t used his last name in a long time... they were on a first name basis now... at least that\'s what he\'d thought. He closed his eyes having the sudden feeling he knew what was wrong with her.

\"Please Niwa-kun... don\'t be mad at me. I just... I just don\'t think things are working out... I don\'t feel anything anymore,\" she said biting her lip and looking at him sadly. She knew it would hurt him and she\'d been trying to put it off but she couldn\'t lie to herself anymore.

\"I... understand... I\'ll see you tomorrow… Bye Riku,\" he said quietly, letting go of her wrist, before turning and walking off, not wanting to be near her at the moment. He could almost feel his heart rip in two at that very moment…

\"Niwa-kun!\" the brunette called back in a worried tone but the redhead didn\'t answer her. She shook her head slightly, biting her lip. Maybe this hadn’t been such a good idea. But she couldn’t lie to herself anymore.

Meanwhile, Justin came out of his grandfather\'s apartment holding a sword that was a gift from a friend of his grandfather\'s from World War II and he always wanted it. Now he could finally get it and hopefully be useful to the young thief.

Daisuke headed home in a daze, not really paying attention to where he was going. Riku had been acting differently and now he knew why... he supposed it was his fault. She knew well enough that he wasn\'t the Daisuke she\'d known... he\'d changed too much.

Justin blinked as he saw the redhead across the street and walked over to walk beside him before he noticed the boy was sulking. He tilted his head slightly before he said, \"What\'s wrong, Dai-san, you look upset.\"

\"Ahh... umm... sorry what was that? I wasn\'t... paying attention,\" he said blinking wondering where the elder male had come from and noticing the ugly bruise was plainly visible on the cops\' face. He half wondered if that was his fault too.

The detective chuckled lightly at the youth’s confusion before replying gently, \"It\'s fine, it\'s fine. I wanted to show you this anyway,\" He said smiling as he held out the sword to the redhead to see, \"Do you think this might be useful?\"

\"Uhhh... maybe...\" the young thief murmured as he took the sword from the other for a moment, looking it over and brushing his hand over it before he began swinging it around instinctively like he\'d wielded a sword all his life.

Justin’s eyes were wide. He was quite impressed with this feat, \"Seeing as I\'m not an expert, perhaps you\'d like give me some pointers some time Dai-san? You seem to be well versed in how to use a sword after all.\"

Daisuke blinked, \"I\'ve never used a sword before... hnmmm... must be something Dark-san knew.\" He went still for a moment at the thought of the other as all his worries and problems crashed back down as they often did, though this time they were joined by the fact that Riku-san wouldn\'t be there anymore...

The brunette looked at the boy seeing the sadness etched on his features. Why did this boy always seem to sad all the time? He sighed slightly before he asked calmly, \"What\'s wrong Dai-san? Did something happen today?\"

Daisuke looked up at the other for a moment before he shook his head calmly, plastering on his usual fake smile and replying calmly, \"No… nothing’s wrong really... everything\'s fine really... It\'s nothing... I’m alright…\"

Justin shook his head knowing that that was an outright lie but not wanting to push it, \"Alright... if you ever want to talk about what\'s on your mind feel free. Hell if you need to punch it out I\'ll spar with you sometime.\"

\"I\'m fine...\" Daisuke repeated as if he said this a lot as he hold out the sword to Justin. He hated feeling like this but there was something he hated even more and that was putting his troubles on someone else’s shoulders.

The older of the two nodded calmly, \"If that\'s how you feel then I\'ll let you figure this out for yourself. I better get going now… I’ll see you later then Dai-san…\" He said calmly as he reached out and took his sword back.

Daisuke looked at Justin for a moment before biting his lip, \"It\'s... my girlfriend... she... well... she\'s not my girlfriend anymore... I know it\'s stupid. There are a lot more important things for me to be worrying about...\"

Justin shook his head, \"It\'s not stupid. Your feelings for another is just as important as protecting this city. Believe me, I lost a girlfriend once because of my job so I understand. It hurts, no doubt about it, but if she can\'t understand then it\'s not meant to be, I say.\"

\"Hnn... maybe,\" the redhead said calmly, his wiriness and sadness showing even more on his features, \"It\'s just... hard... we\'ve known each other since we where toddlers and been dating for the last five years. It feels wrong… not being with her…\"

Justin nodded calmly feeling slightly bad for the other, he really did have the weight of the world on his shoulders… especially when he thinks that his love life is that unimportant, \"I understand Daisuke but things will get better. Maybe she just has some issues she needs to work out too. It may not be over completely yet either. You never know right?\"

\"Maybe… anyway, I should stop bothering you with my problems and everything and head home... mom\'ll freak if I\'m not home by 4:53 and 15 seconds...\" he said rolling his eyes slightly, \"Don\'t ask... It’s a really long story… I’ll explain it to you someday.\"

Justin laughed slightly as he replied calmly, \"You’re no bother Dai-san… really your not… But if you need to go then… Well… then be sure to tell your mother I said hi alright?\" He smiled and nodded to the other before he started to walk off.

\"See ya...\" Daisuke said calmly in almost a whisper as he headed off as well, feeling at least a little better but also feeling a little empty as the other walked away from him. He shook the feeling away, however, and continued on home.

It wasn\'t long before the redheaded thief made it home, with less then a minute to spare. He relayed Justin’s message to his mother who smiled and said to say hi back next time he saw Justin. He nodded yes before heading up stairs to his room and plopping down on his bed...

Daisuke lay in bed and fell asleep instantly, too tired to take on the world at the moment... however... only after a few hours his mother called him down. When he got there his grandfather handed him a slip of paper with a location and the name of an artwork on it.

The crimson eyed youth groaned slightly at this, really not feeling up to going out and stealing anything, not that he ever was in the mood, \"Why tonight... I\'m exhausted... I’ve had a really bad day and just want to relax for a while.\"

\"But Daisuke… we\'ve already sent out the advanced notice... now you\'ve got to go,\" his mother said calmly with a sigh as she handed her son his black thieving outfit, “Besides… these artworks are dangerous.”

\"Ya, ya...\" Daisuke groaned as he grabbed the clothing and began to dress quickly, “They can be a real threat to the city and therefore have to be sealed away before they can do any real harm.., I’ve heard it all before.”

Justin had since made it back home. He was currently looking at his sword, as he’d been doing for a while, running his hand over it and feeling just how sharp it really was before he finally sheathed it, \"Let\'s put you to some use, shall we?\"

It was then that the brown haired detective heard the phone ring. He lifted an eyebrow as he looked around for it, groaning, as he couldn’t locate it in the mess. It continued to ring for a while before he found it, picked up the receiver and spoke, \"...Hello?\"

The voice that met him on the other end belonged to none other then Chief Saehara. The voice boomed over the phone as he shouted, \"Justin! Get your ass to the Museum pronto! There\'s going to be another heist by the Crimson Wing!\"

Justin yawned and groaned before he got dressed and ran a comb through his head and headed out of his house and towards the museum. He was a bit hurt that Daisuke hadn’t called to inform him of his newest heist but he’d deal with that later.

It wasn\'t long before Daisuke was in the air and heading towards the museum. It was late so it was dark, giving him a little bit of cover up in the skies. He yawned slightly and groaned, \"I mean... I love doing this and all but... Couldn\'t I get a break sometimes? I\'m exhausted...\"

\"Kyu...\" his wings replied in sympathy as they neared the museum. With, always full of energy himself, wouldn’t really understand how weary his partner was but he was always there to talk to anyway and always seemed to show how much he cared…

Justin, meanwhile, was driving his car up to museum. He sighed slightly as he tried to think of how he’d make it look like he was trying to actually capture Crimson. He finally reached the museum with still no answer to his question and walked over, relieving the guard that held watch over the target.

Daisuke was forced to hide when spotlights began to roam the skies. He narrowed his eyes slightly before looking down at With who\'d returned to his true form, \"Care to play a little copy cat?\" he asked with a smirk earning a \'kyu!\' from his small companion...

It wasn\'t long before \'Crimson Wings\' was in the air again, quickly being spotted by the police as a second Crimson Wings made his way around the authorities and into the museum using the back entrance, \"Too easy...\"

Justin checked his watch after a while, while he waited inside the museum guarding the Crystal Tiger statue when he heard Daisuke\'s footsteps and turned to greet him. He smiled as he said, \"Welcome back Dai-san... how come you didn’t call me?\"

\"Hnn… uhh… sorry, was in a hurry and forgot to call you… so they gave you another chance after letting me escape last time? I’m a little surprised,\" he asked with a slight smirk as he walked over, circling the statue.

Justin nodded calmly, glad that the museums around here hadn’t yet invested in video cameras, \"Yeah, they\'ll expect a tussle so lets give them a good show. Don\'t let up on me or they\'ll catch on to us and jail us both.\"

\"Alright then,\" Daisuke smirked, \"just watch your aim... my shoulder\'s still sore from yesterday...\" with that Daisuke shouted, \"WITH!\" and the little creature appeared before turning into Daisuke\'s Crimson Wings and attaching himself to his master\'s back.

Daisuke took to the air and pulled out a feather from his pocket, sending it flying towards Justin, purposely missing while confusing the other by swerving and weaving through the artworks and through the air...

Justin pulled out his gun and shot in the general direction of Daisuke, purposely missing by a good few feet. He smiled as he said, \"Heads up, Dai-san!\" As he ran for Daisuke and grabbed his foot in a mighty jump.

\"HEY!\" Daisuke shouted in shock at the other’s actions before kicking his feet in an attempt to rid himself of the \'dead weight\' which was slowly dragging him towards the ground. He made sure not to kick Justin in the face and hit him in the shoulder instead where it would do less damage...

The detective, however, thought that it was funny as hell as he held on tight and said, \"C\'mon Dai-san, gotta make it more realistic than this,\" As he said this he climbed up the other and got Daisuke in a headlock.

\"Fine then!\" Daisuke growled almost playfully before he shifted his weight plummeted towards the ground with Justin hanging on for dear life. The redhead chuckled as he turned himself so that Justin took the fall...

Justin groaned in pain slightly as he hit the ground but he recovered quickly and threw Daisuke off him with just a portion of his strength sending the other flying a ways off in the opposite direction to the statue.

Daisuke landed up on his feet almost like a cat and grinned just slightly before grabbing several feathers from his pocket again and throwing them in Justin’s direction, then leaping backwards and making a dash for the Crystal Tiger...

Justin dodged the feathers easily and made one last mad dash towards Daisuke in an attempt to try one last time to \"thwart\" the robbery as the other got closer to the statue. He was about to leap at the redhead when Daisuke made his move…

\"With!\" Daisuke called and the little creature changed into a copy of the young thief and stood in his way... While Justin was busy with With, Daisuke shut down the security on the statue and made a grab for it... the moment he did a loud roar was heard startling the youth and causing him to back up, \"Ahh Sh!%!\"
