The Lie Within- Syusuke Fuji
Rating: G
Summary: Do I lie to save myself?
A/N: hints of Tezu/Fuji
##
The Lie Within- Syusuke Fuji
Like a woman putting on make-up, he checks the mirror to make sure that his smile’s in place, that it doesn’t look too strained or too fake.
He can’t remember a time when he wasn't smiling as a means to hide from the world. He thinks back and wonders if it began the day someone pinned the label prodigy, genius on him and, suddenly, everyone’s expectations became his cross to bear? Was it the day his precious little brother, Yuuta, stopped looking at him as a hero, his eyes now filled with dislike and envy?
He still doesn’t know but the smile has become a part of his wardrobe, something to cover a part of him he doesn’t want naked, exposed…vulnerable.
He’s content to let everyone see Fuji, hidden as he is, and assume what they will; other people’s opinion of him has never mattered anyways. If they look and see happy-go-lucky or unflustered calm, it’s only because that’s what he wants.
Only one person has truly seen beneath the mask, has ever put a ripple in his lake of tranquility. In this person's presence is when he feels that vulnerability and he responds by pulling him close, then pushing him away only to pull him close again. He holds on because this is the one person who knows that he protects fiercely, hates strongly and loves deeply. The one person who watches silently and truly knows the Syusuke who lies beneath the innocent deception.
So he smiles, mask firmly in place, content to be Fuji.
