Is he there?

Thank you so much for the reviews, Ice Demon Allysandra, dawn and kiix! Also, I had a very nice new years, thank you cocoke5. I love when I have more reviews than there are chapters, it makes me feel... SPECIAL! Also, it's good to know that people still read my drivel :hearts:

Please review! Lots of reviews mean I pop out a chapter quicker! Look at this one here! Speaking of popping out, I'm playing Sims 2 and my momma's about to have a baby I think. She's getting kinda fat, so I only assume. Okay... ADD author AWAAAAAAAY!

Rion followed Raoul to the meeting room. He didn’t ask the older Blondie about his brother…. Not yet. He needed to wait until they had more time. Since Rion was just new, he wasn’t going to be speaking in the forum just yet. He only sat next to Raoul for the next couple hours. At least it gave him time to think.

When it was all done, they had to go shake hands of others who attended. Rion did it numbly, smiling and nodding, greeting people when it was necessary. One man tried to get his attention and engage him in conversation, but he just wasn’t into it, so he was left alone. Raoul sensed something was wrong, so he excused the two of them from the group to head to his office.

Rion didn’t pay attention, just followed the larger Blondie. He didn’t even notice when the door was shut and locked behind them. “Rion.” Hearing his name snapped him out of it though. “Something’s wrong. I thought that you would be able to handle a meeting like this. If you can’t, inform me and I’ll find employment for you somewhere a little less stimulating.”

Crap, now he had to answer. “Forgive me, sir. I’m just… a little out of it. Family problems, you see.”

“Family problems?” Raoul frowned, then he understood. “Ahh, your brother, correct? Has he done something?”

Rion was quiet. He tried to feel for his brother again… but just couldn’t feel that connection between them that he could always feel, no matter their distance. Hopefully he was still alive…. “Yes, sir. He was caught up in something last night… and we haven’t seen him since.”

Instantly the Blondie was moving across the room to the computer. “Tell me where he was, and the details of what happened. We can perhaps find him in the system logs.” As much as he didn’t approve of the union between his old friend and the mongrel, he wanted to protect their children.

“He’s not in any detention cells.” He said, checking those after Rion explained what happened. Of course he was disappointed in them, but this wasn’t the time. “Nor do I see any patrol logs that took them to that area. It’s possible that they simply decided to take some sort of vigilant justice into their own hands. Unfortunately many of the patrol officers now still don’t like mongrels and carry that prejudice over into their work.” He rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed. “I don’t know what else I can do. Your brother- if he’s even alive- is lost somewhere in the system and there’s really no way we can find him without even knowing who was in the area.”

It killed Raoul to say that, but it killed him even more to see the expression on Rion’s face. The boy looked like he was broken. Like a piece of him had been torn away. The older Blondie knew that feeling. He felt it when Iason died. He seriously hoped that it was only worry that was killing Rion, not Guy’s actual death.

Finally he couldn’t take it. Rion stood and bowed slightly. “May I take my leave?” He asked, his voice soft and barely audible.

The Blondie nodded. “Tomorrow I wish for you to report to work at the same time. And please be in the mood to attend meetings. I understand the circumstances, but we desperately need to train someone in now. If you’re not performing acceptably, then we’ll have no choice but to find someone else.”

Understanding, Rion nodded and left the room. He made his way down the marble hallway, and to his surprise he was able to make it all the way to the elevator before bursting into tears.

It was dark. That’s all he knew. He rolled over and cried out as he shifted a broken rib. How long had he been there? He was alone in a small room, his leg shackled to the wall. Every once in a while someone or several someones would enter and beat him or berate him. So far, he’d lost count of how many times he’d been struck and something cracked. Guy closed his eyes as he heard the door opening again. Is this what it was like to die?

The man was speaking words, but he was too far gone to truly comprehend what was being said. He tensed up as he heard steps towards him, just in time to feel a boot slamming into his hand, making the fingers bend painfully and snap. Guy screamed as loudly as he could, but his voice was hurt. However, before he passed out, the first thing he thought of was whether or not Rion was worried about him.
